Serene spot, West River dock, sunsets, the Bay, only 40 min from Alexandria, DC.
A perfect getaway spot, on a peninsula on the West River just across from Galesville. Houses on the point are mostly waterfront and neighbors are friendly and quiet. Say hi or just enjoy the sunset from the porch or the dock. Kitchen is fine for cooking, though nearby restaurants in Deale and Galesville are tempting and Annapolis is only 20 minutes away. If you are a boater, the Bay awaits! Galesville is even closer by water and you can kayak to dinner. I love going to this peaceful place, and I hope you will too.
The house is available at reduced rates during the colder months, a perfect spot for a sabbatical or writing that book. It's cozy in winter with baseboard heat, and the fireplace works.

Wonderful place to stay south of Annapolis. Yes, it’s an older cottage, with all the requisite quirks you’d expect. That’s part of its charm, just as much as the sunset views and peaceful neighborhood that feels like you’re on a small island.
Was disappointed at the cleanliness of the property (mice droppings). Bed was very uncomfortable due to two mattresses being put together. We took out the AC filters and cleaned them. This home has great potential, just needs a little updating.
My family stayed at this VRBO and it couldn't have worked out better. Small quaint house tucked away by the water was very peaceful to come home to after a busy day touring D.C. Many things to do nearby with just a short drive. We enjoyed the kayaks that came with the house with a 10 minute paddle to a fun restaurant.
Mary was very responsive to my messages and a very kind person.
What a wonderful cottage! I stayed a week in July, while taking a sailing class with the Annapolis Naval Sailing Association in nearby Galesville. The only potential drawback is lack of central AC, but I ALWAYS felt very cool and comfortable thanks to all the window units. The king(!) bed is super comfy, and I loved spending time on the porch, living room and dock - all very lovely spaces. The neighbors are friendly, host super-helpful, and sunsets AMAAAAAZING. Looking forward to staying here again soon.
Appreciated the lovely waterfront location, independence , nice filtered water tap for drinking and coffee. Especially enjoyed meeting owner, delightful visit.
Had everything we needed for a quiet weekend away! Mary is a delightful host and was readily available. We enjoyed the kayaks and the electric grill. Property was easy to find.
This quaint cottage on the water was everything my family never knew we needed! No, it’s not a brand new home or luxury mansion. It’s actually way better because it has charm and character. It’s bigger than it looks, comfy/cozy, sooo quiet, and has everything you could need. We ate out on the porch area, soaking in the views; we each utilized the office in different ways (my son wrote a letter to his grandmother, my husband wrote (he wrote on the porch as well) and I looked at shark teeth we had collected; I sat out on the steps just listening to the birds and watching them; the sunsets truly are incredible and they’re always different (there are lots of places at the home to enjoy them from); … Check in/out was a total breeze and communication, if necessary, was delightful. Ooh, and the location couldn’t have been more perfect. We visited what seemed like ever corner of the state (including DC and Mount Vernon in Virginia), and we were never in the car for long (the longest drive was to Assateague and it was worth it). My only wishes…A) That the weather would’ve been better so that we could have utilized the kayaks B) That I would’ve booked our stay during crabbing season because that would’ve been an awesome experience C) That we would’ve ate out more as so many places sounded amazing D) That we could’ve stayed longer
The river views made this place for us. The house is old and needs some upgrades, but we thought the place was charming. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking meals. Many comfy places to relax with great water views. TV, WiFi and charging station was a plus and for us having a washer & dryer was great. Our host was terrific. We would definitely stay here again. A counter of some kind in the bathroom and another in the bedroom for clothes would be helpful but all in all, a fun little cottage.
We could have stayed on the porch looking at the water, boats and sunsets our entire stay. In fact, one day we did! We imagine it would be great when the leaves change. We might plan our next stay around that
.
Since the crabs caught off of the dock are that big, a large steamer or bigger pot would have been useful. Even though it was September, it was probably the hottest week all summer. Thankfully the window units kept us cool. I like renting quirky places like this, more so before vrbo became a big business taking their big share with fees.
This is an older home with some quirks but plenty of charm! The bed was very comfortable and the wifi/tv worked well. However the real highlight of this home is the location and the beautiful views! This is close to Annapolis, Baltimore and D.C. if you want a quick day trip- but the highlight for us was just relaxing on the dock catching blue crabs and enjoying the local restaurants. The neighbors are all friendly and happy to share recommendations if needed.
First off Mary was exceptional in communicating with me during the entire process and stay. She was quick to respond and more than accommodating. The property is well kept and situated in a wonderful neighborhood. Everyone greets you very warmly. The interior is quite spacious. There are seating areas throughout. The dock is great for enjoying your morning coffee or relaxing and watching the boats pass through the marina. I’d definitely return in the future and would highly recommend this property.
The views are stunning and we could not have asked for more. I especially liked being able to cook and make coffee in the mornings. If given the opportunity we would love to stay again.
We really enjoyed the simplicity of the cottage - no bells and whistles, but that's perfect for us. The location and views were outstanding and the enclosed porch faving the water was wonderful for relaxing with a good book.
The place was exactly as pictured. The location was perfect and the view was spectacular. Check in and out was very simple and the owner is very responsive. I had no problems during my stay but we had communicated before and after. I highly recommend this charming home.
My partner and I spent an extended weekend at this house and had a lovely time. The neighborhood is picturesque and peaceful. The views from the back of the house and the porch of the water are beautiful. We enjoyed our morning coffee in the porch and just looked out over the water. The owner gives you a document called Quirks and Perks which is apt. The house is a century old and does have some little quirks but nothing that doesn't add to the charm of the house. We had a lovely stay and are so glad we booked.

Beautiful Shady Side
Primitive... 1920's house...built as vacation home for seasonal... not updated . meager updates do not keep up with what it needs. Leaky roof...bathroom outdated ...bathtub not safe... appliques on tub .. some of them half there and not complete. no light at front door so cannot see steps at night. boathouse has no cleets to tie boat down to. Two bedroom....no ..one bedroom with two mattresses pushed together. For 1800. wk expected much nicer accommodations. Shady Side beautiful area... cabin could give you more ..
