About this property

Secluded Cottage on Cattle Farm and Dog Friendly All Sizes

*Newly accepting reservations after a 9 month hiatus.

Seeking an escape to wide open spaces, miles upon miles of crops, red dirt/sand? Then country life is calling your name. Quiet cottage tucked in the middle of 250 acres of rich Georgia farmland nestled in a wooded pasture. Come enjoy the peacefulness of the country, with fields and pasture all around you as far as the eye can see. Gorgeous night skies for star gazing and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows and snuggling. Watch the leaves change colors in the fall with peanuts, cotton, corn and pecans being harvested all around you (late September through late November). Cuddle up under the covers, or soak in the hot tub on those chilly winter mornings. Spring rain showers come and go quickly to green up the land. Crops get planted in March/April and you’ll smell a mix of fresh earth and rain drops. During summer months there is sunshine for miles, and lots of sandy areas on the property to catch some rays and put your toes in the sand. You don't have to go to the beach to get a tan. You’ll also find some of the prettiest sunsets here, so be sure to snap a few pictures and send them back to your friends and family.

Enjoy the seasonal water trough soaking pool May-September as you cool off and listen to the purple martens squawk from their gourds. Soaking pool (300 gallons/2.5 feet deep) contains treated water and is warmed by the sun. Great place to soak your cares away while you enjoy your favorite brew or glass of wine. Seats 3-4 adults comfortably and doubles as a splash pool for children.

The Cottage sits on a small pond next to a Hunting Cabin (also available to rent) in the middle of a pasture where cows pass by regularly to investigate and say hello. The area is fenced (barbed wire and electric) on all sides but may not be barrier proof for all pets or children. A creek runs behind the rental and you can see tiny minnows swimming and catch frogs/toads galore. The wildlife will sing you to sleep, and the cows will meander around the back side of the Cottage to say hello or show off their new calf throughout your stay.

You've found the perfect place to escape to for peace, and to disconnect. There are plenty of places to explore on the property and natural springs all around. Feed the turtles or minnows in the shallow pond and creek, see fox squirrels, deer, foxes, armadillos, catch tree frogs, and hear the coyotes howl at night. There is even a bob cat that passes through the area regularly. Take a walk down the dirt/sandy field roads and collect arrow heads. Forage through the pasture, or along the fence line and find blackberry bushes, mulberry trees, mushrooms of all varieties, wild strawberries, citrons, honeysuckle, persimmon and pecan trees.

Great area for off roading and miles of dirt roads to ride down and explore. The Cottage is accessed by a private dirt field road that may get bumpy and muddy depending on time of year. Although normal cars can typically handle the terrain, please note that 4WD or AWD vehicles may be better suited to the access road and area. Feel free to bring your atv or dirt bike for some adventure. Field roads are also perfect for riding on bicycles or horseback.

During summer months there is a cold natural spring swimming hole about 13 miles away (Mock Spring), or visit the State Park at Lake Blackshear for fishing, boat rentals, and on the water dining 15 miles away. Ellis Brother's Pecans tourist spot is ~2 miles up the road with nut samples and all sorts of goodies. Lawn games like corn hole and croquet available upon request, or relax in the spa/hot tub as you sip some local muscadine wine and watch the sun set.

Things to do in the area:
*SAM Shortline themed train rides in Cordele - Romantic Dinners, Wine and Cheese, Sunset rides, Holiday Express, and Day out With Thomas.

Quaint country get away

Our host hospitality was beyond exceptional! The unexpected details were a nice surprise. We enjoyed going over to Cordele to the Sam short line and enjoyed the serenity of our country landscape. All the comforts of home plus some. Highly recommend this location.

Heaven on a farm

We are ‘regulars’ for a reason… We love it here. It’s peaceful, clean and the cows are a bonus. The kitchen is equipped so that we can cook and then enjoy on the porch. Perfection and we will be back again in August.

Incredibly peaceful and beautiful

The sights, sounds, and soulful rest that this beautiful place facilitates was just what I was seeking. I had a very short trip, so I stayed on property 99% of the trip and just meandered, sat outside and read, wandered the fields, hung out with the very friendly cows, and received a tour of the farm by the owner. Super cool place and the owners have not only continued the legacy of the family farm, but they have opened it up for others to enjoy as well. I cannot recommend this place enough! There is a lot to do nearby as well, and next time I will explore the area more based on the amazing suggestions by the host!

Great stay, but road can be an issue!

We had a great stay while attending a national dog show. The only downside we had was the dirt road to get to the house. We were driving a mini van and a rental sedan and had a tough time getting through the road with a ton of huge divots. We unfortunately had a lot of rain during our stay and made the road almost impassable for our cars. Otherwise extreme nice house and very responsive host!

Charming and perfect!

Very special place - perfect for a country getaway. Unique farm setting with charming and comfy accomodations, including layout, beds and linens, and all necessary supplies. Host was super responsive and accomodating. My husband and I and our 2 dogs loved the time together to experience some new adventures and just to take a time out to celebrate my birthday :)

Secluded comfortable getaway

The cottage is exactly as the host describes with added charm. It’s really tucked away in the pastures of the working farm where cotton had just been harvested before our arrival. We searched for a secluded place just like this for 2 adults with 2 big dogs where we would not bother anyone and vise versa & this cottage was perfect with enough room for another couple and another dog! We had plenty of bathroom toiletries, towels, bedding, kitchen necessities and even a ‘welcome gift’ from the hostess. Thank you for your hospitality! We will certainly return if ever traveling rural southern Georgia again!

Beautiful country cottage

Beautiful country cottage located on a working farm. We enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the cotton being harvested and the cows and calves passing thru each morning. Amber was very responsive to our cry for help with the TV. Turns out to be user error 😜. Would gladly stay again if we are up this way.

Clean, comfortable, and peaceful.

My family, dogs, and I had the pleasure of staying there for a few days and have nothing negative to say. The house was in tip top shape and the grounds offered the kind of peace and tranquility that only a heard of mooing and curious cows could bring. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

About the host

Hosted by Amber Howard

Host profile image
We are a family run farm established in 1902 and raise black angus beef cows (many of which are friendly and will allow you to boop their snoots). We enjoy sharing this peaceful setting with those who want a peek at how our food is grown.

What makes this property unique

Get a real farm experience by interacting with livestock, riding down dirt roads on a quad, hay rides, and taking in what nature has to offer in farm country. See Georgia’s autumn colors outside your door and see the fall harvest being picked (cotton, peanuts, corn, and pecans). Summers are hot, but there is always some type of water fun with a seasonal water trough warmed by the sun or year round hot tub. Embrace the wide open spaces, but stay close enough to I-75 for a trip north or south to get a taste of the city life too (Starbucks is about 12 mins away!).
