Great price for location

Claytor lake was so fun, and this house made it more fun with easy access to the lake, kayaks available, and a great place to jump in and swim.

Breathtaking!

Beautiful, cozy and very relaxing. Everything was just perfect except for at night time when we arrived we couldn't see it was so dark and couldn't find the switch for outside lights for us to unload from our car into the house.

Perfect getaway!

We had the absolute best weekend at this cabin. It has plenty of space for a group! The kitchen had everything we needed to make tons of delicious meals. We made use of the kayaks and brought a few paddle craft of our own. The weather was perfect! The hot tub was perfect for relaxing. We made use of the fire pit one evening as well. Honestly could not have asked for a better place to spend the weekend!!

Beautiful Virginia Getaway

The property was fairly easy to find, and very well kept. Firewood was stocked for the fire pit out back and the awesome wood burning fire pit the kept us all cozy for the long weekend. The kids loved the Mr & Mrs Pac-Man and we all enjoyed the selection of games available, even got some Thanksgiving kayaking in. All in all it was a wonderful place to get away and relax with the whole family. Would definitely look at coming back!

Relaxing house

The house is very nice and large. Plenty of water activity supplies/appliances and indoor games are provided. Area is very quiet and calm, allowing for a very relaxing stay. The dock requires some repairs and entry into the water may be a bit precarious. The two enclosed bedrooms are nice and comfortable. The other three beds are in lofts, while very nice spaces, they provide little privacy.

Brim and bathers

Clean and spacious. Many nice amenities but loved the convenience of kayaks already there. We happened to bring a 16 x 16 pop up shelter and used it on the deck. That was a welcome bit of shade. Only suggestion was for some firmer mattresses. Had quick response from management regarding a trash pick up. Very nice home….

Good overall

Exterior in desperate need of repairs. Decks, railings, dock all in dangerous condition. Time to spend a little money addressing this problem. Inside needs a little attention. The hot and cold water are backwards in the shower. But super clean and the new addition area is nice. Would say it’s not worth the money just because of the limited usability of the dock.

Gem in the rough

Consider the following to make this a 5-star locale that can support up to 10 people: 1. put 1 or 2 king sized beds in the home, one for sure upstairs in the add-on. 2. Need elongated toilet seats. this is not an expense change. 3. No closets is not an option. Put temp racks or milk crates, something so that you don't have to live out of your suitcase. 4. the add-on bath should have a larger shower considering all the room that bathroom has. 5. Hot water heater is a joke. 6. Consider placing an island in the kitchen. There isn't enough counter space to prep food for 10 folks. 7. Need hand railings on both the stairs going down by the parking lot and to the lake. 8. Need to better prep the home prior to new arrivals. Weeds in the yard were 3-4 feet high, no propane, trash cans were full and had no place to put trash except next to the can.

A week at the lake

We really enjoyed the week we spent at this property. Thank you for being pet friendly. It was super fun to find the video games and all the open area in the living room. The board games were appreciated and nice that they had all their pieces. We loved the wrap around deck and the view of the lake from the house. The kitchen was was equipped and the beds were comfortable. Everyone loved the deep bathtub, we had to take turns on who got bath night. It was a little disappointing that there was construction being done on the fire pit area and that there was construction trash left at the dock (but what are you gonna do?!?!) and a water house stretched across the stairs and not easy to move which was a fall hazard. The dock was also in much needed repair. We brought our boat with us but did not feel safe keeping it at the house because there was only one cleat and the wood was dry rotting and didn’t seem safe to tie off to so we luckily were able to keep our boat at my sisters house across the lake at her dock. (ensure the dock has been repaired before brining your boat). It was fun to catch some little fish off the dock in the evening and see the deer throughout the day. Check out the Draper Mercantile in town and go Gem Stone Mining or Pan for gold at Appalachian Gem and Gold, Basil Pizza and Tha DawgHouse will be good spots for some food. The Dawg House has the best breakfast biscuits.

Wonderful Stay at the Bear Den!

The Bear Den is in a beautiful and peaceful location. The house itself is open, spacious, and clean. It easily accommodated 4 adults and 2 kids, and 2 dogs. The kitchen was well equipped with nice, new appliances. The pots, pans, cutlery were adequate. There is a Keurig and drip. The mattresses and bedding seemed new and were extremely comfortable. The towels and linens were well supplied. The smart TV easily connected to our personal apps, and there was no problem streaming. The wall-mount pac-man games were a plus for the kids. The hot-tub was a very nice one, and was very clean. The maintenance person even came mid-week to clean it. The fire-pit patio down by the water was well built and the wood was well-stocked. The dock itself, while a little ragged in places, was perfect for high jumping from the top level. The ladder coming out of the water might be the only key item of attention - it would be nice to replace this with an aluminum ladder. The current wooden one is a bit slippery and splintery. It didn't stop the kids though. They had a blast. Kayaks, jackets, floats were all nice. There is sometimes boat traffic going down to the the RockHouse marina - where you can dock and get some food or ice cream, or rent paddle boards, etc-, but still plenty of room to float by the dock . We docked our boat with no problem. There are boat bumpers, but no cleats. We just tied to the pilings. The owners have clearly put a lot of work and $ into renovation. Overall, a great stay.
