About this property

Tranquil renovated medieval village house in the centre of old town Lorgues in .

L’Escalier. Charming village house in quiet lane.

This typical medieval house has been renovated and is situated in one of the oldest parts of medieval Lorgues. Just around the corner of the ancient functioning fountain, you will find a small lane leading up to the house situated right at the end of the Impasse. It’s therefor very tranquil and quiet and has the benefit of being sunny as it is north facing. On the first level you will find the very well organized and equipped kitchen with a nice SMEG oven and Siemens gas hob and a good sized counter to eat and work by. From there the stairs lead up to the next landing and the bedroom which has a super high quality double bed and high quality white linen.
The stairs to the bathroom are large and wide and the bathroom is spacious and sunny with a large shower and double basins. There is also a small sunny landing on this level with easy chairs for reading or relaxing. The salon or lounge is on the top floor and has a spare day bed or for an extra guest with a cupboard for storage and hanging space. This sunny room overlooks the old medieval wall dating from the 12th C Knights of the Templars hostel and also has lovely views over the village. There is a good sized TV with Netflix and 2 two-seater couches for watching your favorite movies or just relaxing.
The house is only a 3 min walk to the lovely tree-lined main boulevard with all the bistros, restaurants, markets and interesting Provençal buildings. The big market is on Tuesdays and the bio market on Fridays.
There’s so much to see and do in the area. Many wonderful vineyards and wine estates, old abbeys, quaint medieval villages and the beaches of St Maxime and La Croix Valmer (Gigaro Beach) are only 1h10 min away, or lovely cool country drives up to Gorges du Verdon and Bargème. The lavender season near Valensole is in June/July.
L’Escalier is a perfect base to explore the beautiful Var, or just chill out in this comfortable home and relax.
Please note - this house has stairs.

I am a South African living in the south of France and fell in love with Lorgues when looking for a property to buy in the French countryside 4 years ago. Lorgues has just everything I wanted ... an ancient medieval quarter, loads of history, beautiful fountains, a real French boulevard, 2 markets per week, interesting architecture, situated in a glorious wine region and many other medieval villages to visit for a day outing. Also an easy drive to the Riviera and Nice and close enough for a day at the beach.

Why they chose this property

The house actually dates from the 12th century when it was part of a hostel for the Knights of the Templars as they took refuge there on their crusades because of the abundance of water.....thus all the beautiful fountains. The house is a typical multi-level village house and has a beautiful view over the old town from the salon on the top floor. It has been renovated but is situated in the heart of the old medieval town and yet only 5 minutes from the main boulevard with all the lovely bistros, restaurants, markets and bars.

What makes this property unique

It is situated in a narrow little lane which forms a cul de sac...thus very quiet. Also south facing...so very sunny and light and bright.
