Enjoy a piece of history, this stone house was built in the 1930's. One of three that were part of Rimrock Ranch Bar Lazy-R, a "dude ranch" where VIPs and movie stars would stay as they were filming westerns in the Sedona area or relaxing. In the 60’s it was Mobster getaway hiding spot. The stone house sits elevated on a hillside with overlooking panoramic views of forestry land, local homes & farms, with scenic pinions.

We only stayed for one night but the owner is extremely friendly and hospitable! This is such a lovely comfortable place to stay. You cannot beat the views! We even got to see the farm animals! Thank you for having us and hope to stay again next year!
Certainly not for everyone, but if you’re up for a unique stay with a rustic feel, Stone Cottage is great. The house was well appointed (even spices, coffee filters etc), clean and oozed authenticity of the old West. The farm animals, especially Calamity Jane, were a huge plus, and it was fun to help feed them and hear about the history of the homestead. Super quiet, waking up to the call of the roosters. The owner, Joe, could not have been nicer and more accommodating. Communication was great throughout the whole process. Loved the ability to kick back in the yard and have a fire at the end of the day and make a meal as opposed to eating out every day. The drive in isn’t the most scenic/through a local residential area, but once you get past it, you’re up on a hill overlooking the valley. If you an adventurous soul, and remember you’re in a 100 year old cottage, staying on this working farm is a great experience.
Liked: Cleanliness, property conditions & facilities, communication
I absolutely loved staying here. The cottage was perfect and a lovely retreat. The fires at night were absolutely amazing. Love the location and a special shout-out to both Joe and Kyle. Joe has such a deep appreciation for the history and both were so passionate about the animals and what they were doing! Couldn’t recommend it enough!
My wife and I and our two dogs had a great time. Very peaceful, laid back, and back to nature. We were able to interact with the animals on-site and met up with the ranch hand Kyle which was very informative, introduced us to the many animals there and also allowed us to pick some fresh eggs for breakfast. Awesome experience interacting with nature. Lots of activities and things to do nearby. We were also blessed to be able to interact with the friendly locals. Before leaving, we met Joe the owner and was blessed with a gift of fresh eggs to go. Overall a 5-star stay for sure. Thank you Joe for your awesome hospitality....
This place has enough so all you need are to pack clothes and food. The host is knowledgable of the area and friendly. It's a nice break from Phoenix heat and higher elevation is further up the road.
The cottage was beautiful and peaceful. We loved the record player helped bring us back to a feeling of when life was less busy! Joe was very communitive and nice. We cant wait to come stay again!
Our experience was so nice and relaxing. So many games at the home and a cozy space. My pups had space to roam outside and of course the farm and sunset views were the best part
I had a great time. It was a wonderful place to stay. The place is almost 100 years old but in wonderful condition. Everything worked properly. Funny story…I moved the dog bed from the corner to the middle of the room and there was a dead gecko in the corner. I grabbed a paper towel to throw in trash, but missed the first time. I went to grab it the second time and it scurried off! I chased it down and threw it outside, we had a great laugh. Track life!
I had a nice long stay at Joe’s little mountaintop farm. The views across the desert are awesome, and the cottage is a sweet little place to stay. Joe and all of his animals are very friendly and hospitable.
The place was a great getaway from the noise of the city to the tranquility of the nature, where you get to enjoy fresh breeze, have a hill-top view, and great for stargazing at night.
You get to meet and feed some chicken, ducks, geese, goats, and turkeys, which was so much fun.
There are so many hiking trails nearby as well.
Joe was very friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay.
I would definitely consider visiting again!
Joe was an amazing host with a spectacular property! He was very easy to communicate with, added special touches to make sure our dog was welcome. Everything we needed to make an amazing meal and enjoy a night by the fire overlooking a gorgeous view was readily available. I especially enjoyed meeting, feeding, & learning about the animals. A chicken even let me have 3 eggs! We’ll definitely be back! Thanks, Joe!
We were looking to get away and unplug this holiday and this little cottage delivered everything we were expecting plus some pleasant added surprises. Joe is such a great and friendly host and thought of everything, there are so many thoughtful details that made this stay feel so homey and comfortable. He even had supplies for our dog ready. There was nothing we were lacking. Also, have to mention the record player and the fantastic and eclectic record selection.
The grounds are beautiful, and the farm animals just a few yards away became such a highlight of the trip. I fell head over heels for the sweet little calf and learned that turkeys are quite the curious little characters. Also, getting to pick FRESH eggs was such a special treat.
The only complaint I have is that it was really hard to leave on the day of check out. Definitely planning on coming back!
My husband, myself, our son, his wife and their 2 sons (8) & (6) stayed three nights. The house is a cozy stone cabin, very clean. Beautiful views. Our host Joseph has goats, a cow, chickens, ducks, turkeys and more. We had fresh eggs every day. The boys fed the animals everyday. It was great no electronics we did sight seeing during the day and played games at night. We will be going back.
The cabin was very nice on the inside; clean and neat. It comes stocked with all you need to prepare meals for your stay. There are no electronics there, per se, except for the wifi which is what we were looking for. The surrounding area is quiet and dark at night.
The animals next to the cabin are all very nice. We were able to visit in their pens and feed them snacks more than a few times. At one point we were able to secure some eggs from the hens to cook inside the cabin.
Joe was extremely nice and did a great job of making us feel welcome. He took the time to introduce us to the farm animals and give us a small tour. He also kept in touch with us during our stay to ensure we had what we needed.
All in all it was a wonderful experience and we want to take our children up there at a later date.
Our stay was really unforgettable.
The home was cozy and had everything we needed. Host went above and beyond and the kids loved visiting with the animals.
We loved the stone cottage! Excellent views and you simply fall in love with all of the animals on the property especially the baby goats! Joe the host brought us an assortment of fresh eggs which we enjoyed each morning! Farm to table at its finest. Joe gave us many suggestions of things to see in the area we really enjoyed Dead Horse Ranch state park, highly recommend! The cottage is stocked with everything you need. If you want to see Sedona but don’t want to deal with the congestion then this is the place for you.
We absolutely loved our stay here, our kids had a blast visiting with all the animals, the home is very clean and cozy. The view off the porch is so cool, the front yard is fenced in which was perfect for kids and dog. Joe is very hospitable and made sure we had everything we need, he even gave us a bunch of goose, duck and chicken eggs. It’s a little off the beaten path but would absolutely recommend staying here to make fun memories with your family they will never forget!
If you want to visit Sedona or the surrounding areas. You want to stay at this location if you can! It’s up on a hill away from it all with a complete live stock right next to you- (didn’t hear them at all at night or day). The cabin has EVERYTHING! & there are fabulous farm fresh eggs! 10/10 would recommend.

I am transitioning to farm life, as I develop my 2.7 and 6.8 acre neighboring properties for horses, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, bees and rabbits. Looking to turn this historic property homes and remaining property into an aquaponics and traditional farm that is self supporting and a source of education for locals, students, guests. As well as a local source for neighboring restaurants. Watch the property come alive and evolve, as I bring the rich history of this property from late 1920's dude ranch for stars and VIPs thru the 1950's to the 1960's vacation and getaway for the Mafia...into sustainable growing ranch and farm.
Why they chose this property
The ranch is located less than 3 miles from highway 17. From here you can easily travel to all of the sites and activities that the Verde Valley has to offer, without getting stuck in the tourist traffic of Sedona. Your one exist south of Sedona, One exit north of Camp Verde, east of Cornville and Cottonwood.
What makes this property unique
Enjoy the panoramic views with great sunsets. The Cottage overlooks a 40 acre ranch with cattle, that roam the area. There are goats (7 new ones born in May and April), Geese, Peking Ducks, Running Ducks, Muscovy Ducks, Turkeys, chickens and a bee hive. Fetch your own fresh eggs daily. Detach and escape your busy life with your very own animal relaxation crew...lol
