Perfect getaway for a romantic anniversary

John and Bob good not have been more welcoming and hospitable! They made my husband and I (plus our pups) so comfortable. They had great recommendations for the local area and the views all around the property are absolutely divine. I definitely plan on doing this visit again. It’s the perfect place to relax and recharge.

A Perfect Blend of Nature, Comfort, and Whimsy

Stayed at this house near Joshua Tree, which was perfect for exploring the park and local desert hikes. The property offers a stunning mountain view from the front porch, a hot tub, and a fire pit, enhancing our relaxation. The interior's thoughtful decor, including vintage toys and art, kept both adults and our 4-year-old engaged. The yard's detailed decorations added to the charm. The owners were welcoming yet gave us our space. The place combines practicality with comfort, significantly enhancing our trip. Highly recommended for visitors to the area.

Amazing Retreat

J&B was an amazing stay. We had be roadtripping for o we 5 days with hit and miss hotel/rental property stays and arriving here was a total haven! The road getting there is a bit rocky but we expected that, no surprise. Their home is hidden and tucked away in a private location. Their home is impeccable and so welcoming which they’ve made sure it is. Starting with great communication and responses so quickly to every last detail in the house from kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms! Let me tell hi the bedding in our bedroom was totally over the top. Mattress was comfortable, pillows, sheets and comforter top of the line. Literally didn’t want to get out of bed after the first night which in all honesty didn’t till late morning which is very not like me. Anyway, don’t hesitate, just book it, you won’t regret it. The hot tub was a huge hit, stargazing at night was the best! We cooked both nights and they had everything you would need. Thanks John and Bob for a great stay and sharing your amazing home with us!

Beautifully maintained and excellent communication

I can't even begin to describe how wonderful our stay was. Not only is the place absolutely beautiful and easily accessible but it is perfectly maintained. Anything that you can think of is at the house. You can tell that the owners put a ton of time and thought into preparing it. I was also extremely pleased with the communication from the owners. Any questions I had I would text and hear back shortly. There are QR codes on most apparatuses so that you can scan and see a video of how to work it. It is very clean and cozy. There are also booklets that explain different things around the house and places to go visit or eat. I would definitely 100% stay at this place again. It's absolutely beautiful inside and out. Highly recommend!

This was our second trip to the property. Just as magical the second time around, especially since it was so cool out at night. Just a lovely trip. We came home very relaxed. As always, very well appointed and has everything you ever need, literally.

Just What We Needed

The place was just as advertised, and fit our needs perfectly. We wanted to get away from it all, but still have the amenities of home--and it fit the bill. The place has real charm, too (check out the Saguaro cactus towel design). Also, our breakfast outside was a real treat: the sun out and the morning light just perfect. Thanks, guys.

Our first time using a service like this

And I can say that we are so spoiled. Literally ANYTHING you can think of that you may need, they have. Fan, check. Citrus juicer, check. Walking sticks, check. Flashlights, check. Blankets for outside under the stars, check. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of how neat this place really is. Something new to find around every corner inside and out. So cozy. The lights around the fireplace are so perfect. The record player, games, SMART tvs! Robes, towels, Costco tp and paper towels, iykyk. We will definitely be back (during the cooler season). The pathways lined with lights made everything so magical. Well-appointed kitchen and even food and beer in the fridge! The welcome basket was the sweetest thing and had my favorite snacks (HOW DID YOU KNOW!!) I love the size of the property to explore. Saw bunnies and hummingbirds, California quail, and roadrunners! The property is really special. This will be our home away from home in the future.

Great stay close to Joshua Tree National Park

We had a great time here! The property was just lovely - very cozy, mid-century vibes. We loved listening to all the birdsong in the morning and enjoyed the hot tub. This property has so many nice touches by the owners. Beds were comfortable, Wifi was strong, the kitchen was excellent, and though we didn't use it, the office space was a very unique plus! We were in the area to visit Joshua Tree National Park and this was a great spot that was close enough to the park while also feeling a little "out of the way." I wouldn't recommend this property for especially timid drivers - getting to the house requires driving on a dirt road and getting to Joshua Tree/heading east requires turning onto a busy road. It wasn't a concern of ours and we had no problems, but a good thing to know and anticipate, especially if you aren't used to driving in California! Overall, a great pick for a trip to Joshua Tree NP! Thanks for hosting us!!

Rest and Relaxation

Wonderful stay for mom, 16 year old son and 12 year old yorkiepoo! We all needed a getaway, a restful time, taking it easy. We walked in and there was a gift basket for us as well as our dog, including a toy for him! The house is very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our stay was short and so we didn't get to enjoy the home as much as we wanted. Next time we will stay longer and just enjoy the home. John and Bob have thought of everything! The house has everything that you need and even if you forget something, e.g., sunscreen, it will be there! Thank you, and we look forward to our next trip there!

Great place to stay

John and Bob were great, they gave us good pointers about the area and were quick to respond to any questions. Where this house really stands out is all the great extras. I have stayed in short term rentals all over the US and Europe and John and Bob’s house had the most unexpected extras of any place I have stayed. It started when we walked in to a nice welcome basket and continued through the whole house, but my favorite was a kitchen with everything you need to actually cook a meal (within reason). Oh I need some seasoning, they have a variety, pans that aren’t garbage, a water dispenser, coffee beans and a grinder, tea, ziplock bags. The house itself was spotless clean and private. We enjoyed the sunset and stargazing from the hot tub and roaming around the desert yard. We hope to return soon, it was such a relaxing stay I don’t feel like my review did it justice

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

My friends and I had a fantastic stay at J&B's Desert Hideaway. Arriving at night, with expertly accurate directions provided by our hosts, we found a perfectly appointed home with all the modern conveniences. One of us had remote work the next day, had an easy time with the tech and sunny view outside the office window, while the other two of us basked in the sun on the front patio and planned activities, with the help of the informative guides prepared by the hosts. Over the course of three days, we attended the grand opening of a new restaurant (Spaghetti Western, less than 10 minutes away, with music and delish food), easily traveled to a windmill farm for a tour, then on to Palm Springs for brunch & shopping. Our other big excursion was a delicious lunch at La Copine in Yucca Valley and a soundbath at the Integratron in Landers, both less than 30 minutes away. Info on all of these places was found in the info provided by our hosts. It was a pleasure to return "home" in the evening, when we enjoyed the fire pit, the hot tub, slot machine, record player and streaming televisions. The beds are comfortable, with soft linens. The heat and hot water felt wonderful on the cold desert nights. And the kitchen has everything you'd need, and then some, including a fabulous coffeemaker with a grinder and beans. Can't wait to come back for another visit!

Little piece of heaven in the desert!

Wow! I am still in awe after staying at J&B's desert paradise! I went with some friends of mine, and we just loved the location! We woke up to majestic views of the mountains, hills, and desert expanse! I particularly enjoyed the hot tub in the morning just taking in the views with a cup of coffee! The location is so great! It's close to Joshua Tree and Palm Springs. Being hikers, we loved the central location to both places and was able to get to and from with ease! The hosts did not skimp on any detail putting this little retreat together; they had games, streaming channel access, and all the tools you can use in the kitchen as if it were my own home! I didn't want to leave! I could have easily stayed another two weeks! I hope whoever comes to this getaway will enjoy it as much as my friends and I. I will be back for sure!

Oasis in Morongo Valley!

Loved every moment of this leg of our trip. House is fantastic and so well appointed- we wanted for nothing. Highlights for us: The Views, Record player, bar area, stars, hot tub, slot machine, fireplace, great kitchen, cozy rooms, firepit- all of it just wonderful! Communication with owners was excellent, (All my questions were patiently answered quickly!) and check in process was seamless. I can’t think of a suggestion to improve the property or our experience. Hot tub at sunset should not be missed! We were 10-30 minute drive to multiple adventures that included an afternoon in Palm Springs, Pioneertown, and of course a visit to stunning Joshua Tree NP. There was more on our to-do list but honestly the draw of the fun house and spectacular views kept us here more than we expected! This ensures we have to come back! Thank you J&B - loved your desert hideaway!!!!

Undiscovered gem in the Morongo Valley!

We arrived at John and Bob’s Desert Hideaway “home-away-from-home” and immediately felt like WE were home. Generously stocked with everything we could possibly need, easy check in and amazing communication with the hosts, who have clearly put a lot of thought and love into sharing their own personal hideaway with others. The entire experience was like staying at a well maintained, close friends holiday home. A couple of highlights: indoor fireplace, jacuzzi & hammocks (under the stars) and the most spectacular views…oh and a slot machine in the bar area! Loads of fun! It was also nice to stay somewhere truly “pet friendly”, dog bed, water and food bowls and toys provided. The spacious home is secluded and quite, yet only 10-minutes from convenience stores and centrally located, less than 30-minutes to Joshua Tree, Palm Springs & Twenty Nine Palms. We ventured out with our kiddos to Pioneertown and The Living Desert Zoo (highly recommended), but once you arrive at John and Bob’s Hideaway, you simply don’t want to leave. Thank you John and Bob for a wonderful stay, we will definitely be back!”

Magical Desert Home!

We have one word for this place...LOVE!!! We went away with another couple for the weekend not knowing what to expect. We have been to Palm Springs many times before, but never to Morongo Valley/Joshua Tree area. Let's talk about outside. The home is tucked away, but not too far from shops, restaurants and Joshua Tree's National Park. The house sits on a large land of property with beautiful, natural, landscaping and lots of options. The front porch offers a great conversational area with chairs and small tables. Not far from that there's an area with two lounge chairs for relaxing. There's a large dining table off of the kitchen, for entertaining, BBQing, and dining. A few steps from that is another area with a large hot tub! It was SO fun and the view was spectacular for star gazing while relaxing. Then there's an area with two hammocks...I have never really laid in a hammock, so I was surprised how comfortable it was...and FUN! Then there's the fire pit with lots of chairs to gather. It was easy to use, I'm just bummed we forgot to do S'mores! The outside was beautifully done with lots of whimsical treasures! Now to the inside.....The decor was also beautiful and done with exceptional detail. As a part-time decorator when I owned my own business I would call this "Mid-Century Eclectic" . Trust me when I say that the pictures don't do it justice! There's a fun bar area with a working slot machine! (free coins provided!), living room was large and spacious with a BIG TV. I really loved the pop of Orange color from the outside trim to the throw pillows in the living room. The best part was looking at the bookcase with collected treasures! The kitchen had EVERYTHING you need! The coffee bar was especially nice every morning. A added bonus was the water cooler - fresh water to fill your water bottles. The bathroom was clean, modern and had everything you need. There's an office room off of the living room with great views if you needed to check your emails or charge your devices. Don't forget to check the small antique desk behind you for free maps to Joshua Tree's hiking trails and events that are happening in the area! Both bedrooms were LARGE and spacious. We all slept so well and really felt like we were home. We never wanted to leave the house because it was so warm and inviting...and did I mention the views?! There is so much to do here we are already planning our next trip and can’t wait to come back!

The Perfect Desert Oasis

This was our first time in Joshua Tree & hoped for a great desert experience. Words cannot describe the peacefulness & beauty the area & the house provides. The valley views in the morning are awe inspiring however, the stargazing at night is especially spectacular! It’s a literal ocean of sparkling stars & planets. The listing & property is exactly as advertised. The home overall was warm & welcoming. The hosts have thought of every possible need from kitchen appliances, table/glassware, kitchen tools, coffee/tee & bottled water stations. We did cook a meal one evening & the kitchen offered everything we needed. The living room area has a large dining table, a bar, & a slot machine! Tokens are provided to play to your hearts content! There is also a large TV in the living room & one in each bedroom w/a Roku where you can log-into your own personal streaming accounts, & up a specific time/date for automatic logout. It was super easy to use. There is an office, which I did use, w/strong & clear WIFI connectivity & also had a wireless keyboard & mouse, & all the chargers you could ask for. The bedrooms ea. has a king bed, w/blackout shades, a clothes-steamer, & extra pillows/blankets. Another nice touch was the smart-device charging stations on the nightstands had both USB ports & traditional plug-in options. The large bathroom, w/good water pressure, & towels were nice & plush. There are several seating & dining areas both inside & outside. Once outside there is a lovely covered patio as well as several decks to relax in the sun, as well as a beautiful glass gas-fire pit & a hot tub! There are hammocks & a BBQ which we did not use, but plan to on a future visit. The location is perfectly situated just outside of Joshua Tree National Park & not too far from 29 Palms & Desert Hot Springs. A perfect location for Coachella, the Morongo Valley Music Festival, or the Hot Air Balloon Festival. However, the one minor issue is the unpaved road between the HWY & the house can be a bit challenging. If you own an SUV, I highly recommend bringing that. The road is not recommended for low profile cars - it's very bumpy/rocky. Technically, it’s a short distance btwn the HWY & the house, maybe 1/2 mile, but we had to drive slowly especially at night, so it took a bit longer getting in/out. So, I highly recommend arriving during the day, otherwise I suggest picking-up your groceries/supplies before check-in. Other than that, we loved it!

True desert experience located between Joshua Tree and Palm Springs!

My wife and I expected a true desert experience, but we did not expect the upgraded luxury that also afforded this property. We found the photos shown on the listing to be accurate and the overall cleanliness of the property to be high-level. The exterior and interior of the property have been completely and meticulously renovated with careful attention to the details. Daytime views of the valley and hillsides are great, but the nighttime views of the stars are spectacular. So relax in the hot tub or sit back near the propane fire pit or on the observation deck along with your favorite beverage and enjoy! The exterior amenities include multiple relaxation decks with ample and varied seating, hot tub, propane fire pit, BBQ grill, hammocks and large parking area. The interior amenities are many and comfortable – such as the upgraded appliances, fixtures and cookware, bottled water station, coffee maker, WIFI and large TV. The two king-size beds were very comfortable as were the other furnishings in the home. In addition to the two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, living room, there is a small office and bar area. The listed price is reasonable and very competitive relative to other properties in the area. The property is conveniently located in the beautiful Morongo Valley between Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs, California. The only down side is the half-mile, five-minute unpaved access from the main road to the property. This road is somewhat bumpy, but still navigable for even a small car like ours. Just take your time and you will be pleasantly amazed at what you will find at the end of the very accurate directions given by the host. Our suggestion is to arrive during day light hours and you will be good to drive in or out any time after that.

Host profile image
Originally from suburban Philadelphia we moved to Los Angeles in 1997, and now, Morongo Valley. Bob is an Actor, and John works in marketing. We have three children and 5 grandchildren. We LOVE travel and have been fortunate enough to travel the world! We've been renting places over the years, and always said: "If we, owned this place, we'd...." ~ so hopefully we have tended to the details that were important to us!
We are thrilled to be introducing people to this area that we fell in love with a few years ago. We visited Morongo Valley in 2020 during the pandemic to watch the Perseus Meteor shower. It was amazing ~ but it gave us a chance to explore the area so rich with artisan's shops, cafes, "Pioneertown" and the hundreds of interesting and unique venues that make this area magical. We were hooked!
We hope you enjoy our home. It reflects who we are and what we love.

Why they chose this property

The views and the nighttime sky - BREATHTAKING! The perfect location! Quiet and secluded, but close to everything. The property is in the quiet hamlet of Morongo Valley. You are a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, Palm Springs. Close to 4 Casinos offering great food bargains and entertainment.
The location is perfectly central to the area ~ and only minutes from Interstate 10. It makes for the perfect LA getaway!

What makes this property unique

This property was a stamping station for mining in the early 1900's. There are still some remnants of that operation on the property.
The home sits alongside The Morongo Creek (now a creekbed) which you can hike either way for miles through the canyons. It is a desert experience. We have seen Coyotes, Bears, Longhorn sheep, bobcats, roadrunners, and lot of other wildlife.
A simple walk around the block is like hiking a trail along the dirt roads.
The area is rich with wonderful neighbors - many the 4 legged kind! There is a horse ranch around the corner, and you will see goats, donkeys, and people on horses throughout the sparsely populated neighborhood.
