About this property
Glamping tent & Campsite by Minnewaska State Park
Come Camping on land that borders Minnewaska State Park Land
This campsite is known as the "Hollow" and it's fully equipped with camping gear. nestled in a wooded grove, it is private, rustic, 5 min to the State Park, 15 minutes to New Paltz.
Perfect for car campers, backpackers, climbers, bikers and those who want to visit the park easily.
we simply ask guests to pack out trash and clean anything that you use.
this is the closest rental to Minnewaska State Park on this side of the ridge and it is likely the closest rental to the park from either direction.
the site is private but not remote, it's near the Shawangunk Scenic Byway and it’s possible to see and hear some traffic
this campsite is designed for folks who will be visiting Minnewaska State Park.
it is not designed as a "destination" in and of itself as there are no proper hiking trails such as you will find the state parks.
the tent will hold 5 adults comfortably and the site is set up to handle up to 10 people easily but more tents will be required. there is an added fee of $20 for each additional person over 5 people to account for the wear and tear and impact on the site. there is no real limit to how many people can stay but please contact us prior to booking more then 14 people.
dogs are welcome and dogs are welcome to roam off leash but be advised the site is off the Shawangunk Scenic Byway so please keep dogs from wandering toward the road.
there are no visible neighbors but please be respectful with noise after hours as sound will travel

Frequently asked questions;
can i hear traffic?
yes unfortunately. if i could move the Scenic Byway (Route 44/55) i would. there is traffic on nice summer days and people on motorcycles can be loud. the site is not remote but it is private.
it is much quieter at night.
the site is mainly designed as a haven for hikers and bikers before and after hiking/biking at the park and don't mind a little road noise in exchange for an amazingly close campsite with many amenities.
is there WIFI?
-no. there is no wifi because the campsite is in the woods and there is no electricity in the woods.
is there electricity?
-no. there is no electricity at the site because the site is in the woods and there is no electricity in the woods. i do however have a small battery pack in case of emergency or in case anyone needs to charge a phone or blow up an air mattress.
is there a bathroom?
-yes. there is a very basic outhouse style toilet it is kept very clean and sanitized in between guests. it is in a very basic outhouse type setup which consists of a curtain. it is very rustic and it is outdoors. it is not a large public outhouse with walls. you are not responsible for emptying the toilet. that is done between bookings.
is there a shower?
-not really. there is no shower because there is no running water. there is however a camp shower which consists of a nylon bag which gets filled (by you) with hot water and hung up for you to shower under.
what do i do with my garbage?
-please take all of your garbage with you. please leave no garbage behind. this is a carry in/carry out campsite. please leave no trace. the easiest way to dispose of garbage for longer stays is to take it day by day down to the gas station or for short stays just take it with you and drop it on the way.
burning of trash is prohibited. if you ABSOLUTELY MUST leave your garbage i can take it at $15 per bag as i make dump runs only once a week and have no garage to store your garbage in.
is there swimming / hiking nearby?
-YES!! there are many places within Minnewaska state park for swimming and hiking. ask me any questions and i'l be happy to direct you. i used to work at the park so i know the details.
how many people can camp at the site?
-that depends. basically up to about 15.
the 13' Bell tent sleeps 5 adults comfortably. beyond that you will need to bring your own extra tent/s. there is an additional fee of $10 per person per night over 5 people. this is to cover the additional impact and wear and tear on the site caused by larger groups.
can i setup additional tents?
-yes. there is room for several additional tents at the campsite.

About the host
Hosted by Jeremy Backofen

i'm an outdoor enthusiast, music junkie and father.
my wife and i set up a little spot on our property near the state park so that folks can escape the city or the burbs and spend time in nature without spending a fortune.

Why they chose this property
Our property consists of a 30 acre parcel that backs up to Minnewaska State Land. it is wooded and contains the same landscape as the park.
What makes this property unique
we are quite literally the 2nd closest house to the park from this side and we are definitely the closest rental on this side of the park. we are probably the closest rental to the park in any direction.
