About this property

Secluded 2bdrm home on low bank river.

The Riverhouse is a secluded 2 bedroom house located on and surrounded by private property. It sits nestled in the trees just steps away from the river, with low bank river access. It's truly been described as Paradise.

It is a 2 bdrm 1 bath home, with room in the living/dining area for a blow-up mattress (we no longer supply)
We do supply 1 King bed, 1 Queen bed, a twin cot, and full sized fold out mattress.

There is also room on the property for a a pop-up tent, however, there's no turn around for RV's/campers and the road to the river house is rustic.

There are distant neighbors not visible from the Riverhouse. You'll feel like you're in the middle of no where, enjoying nature.
Guest have reported seeing Elk, Deer, Bear, Eagles, Swan, River Otters and more.

Heron was an old train town, so you will sometimes hear trains in the distance.
Town is in walking distance. There's a country grocery store that serves coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches, soups & sandwiches, ice cream & other grocery needs. A post office, a school library & gym, and a dispensary (if that's your thing)
The Riverhouse is surrounded by trails to hike, site's to see, water to play on/in.
We are approx. 45 miles east of Schweitzer Ski Resort and the resort town Sandpoint, ID.
50 miles south of Libby, 50 miles west of Thompson Falls. We are dog friendly and will wave the pet fees if you've purchased the insurance. Please let is know if you have a pet, as there are pets nearby.

Sleeping Man Retreat

Our two hosts Dan & Tracy were wonderful hosts. They communicated well and provided helpful information prior to our arrival. The property was in a very secluded area which was nice for our dog and he loved that he could run through the property. It was quiet, relaxing very peaceful waking up to the deer walking in the yard. We would rate this place higher than 5 star and would definitely love to come back and stay again.

Wonderful home in beautiful location

Our family thoroughly enjoyed this clean and spacious house on the Clark Fork. The house is well stocked for cooking meals, with lots of towels for enjoying the water. Kids had a blast using the kayaks. The house is located in a beautiful forest setting with lots of wildlife (bald eagle, osprey, deer w/ fawns). We definitely plan on visiting again. Thank you for making your home available.

Back again!

We’ve returned for a second time and everything was even better! Which is impossible ;) They stock the kitchen well, the river is gorgeous and they had two kayaks plus life jackets! This property is a gem! If you’re looking for a secluded getaway, book this one!

Beautiful Location

The house was just what we were looking for. Communication with Tracy both before and during our stay was great. Catching fish from the river at our doorstep was a blast and the hammock in the shade by the river was an added plus. We would definitely come back.

Perfect Getaway

Completely exceeded our expectations. Hosts furnished everything we needed, except food and clothes (and the property was so secluded the latter could have been optional!). Beautiful setting, multiple outdoor viewpoints/sitting areas, great covered porch for watching the river and the eagles. Very clean and well furnished inside. Have never given 5 stars before and already thinking about booking again.

Perfect, peaceful property

This property is secluded and has great river access. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. The cabin was very clean, has nice furniture and a well equipped kitchen. The hosts are great and quick to respond. This might be my new favorite vacation spot when relaxation is needed. I hope to be back again soon!

Camping experience but with a lovely home

My stay at this property was fantastic and the family members that joined me all had a great time as well. Traditionally, my cousin and I have done remote and isolated camping in the national forest. I wanted to try and book a vacation home which still had that isolated forest feel but with the luxury of staying in a home rather than a tent. This property checked all the boxes for me. You do not see any other buildings from the house so it's easy to pretend your in the middle of the deep woods. The river can clearly be seen from the house and when at the river, you also see no buildings on the other side. The river itself was a delight. We did kayaking(the owners supply two kayaks) and we also brought floaties and a paddle board. In September, the water was relatively clean and the current was not too strong for casual floating and swimming and the like. The owners provide a nice fire pit as well although we did not get to use this due to the usual fire restrictions that are pretty commonplace in late Summer. The house itself was clean and lovely. The owners seem to have put a lot of thought into stocking the home. The plan was to grab a bunch of food, then check out the house to see what we may need to go back to the store for. We did not have to go back to the store! They even have a Keurig there and an espresso maker. The owners themselves were the nicest I have *ever* encountered while staying at a vacation home. I never met them in person but we exchanged several messages and they were always very pleasant and accommodating. Also, I always received prompt responses. I am very grateful for what they provide with this property and might just have to book this place again! Thank you so much for sharing this place,

Beautiful and remote

This location is about 8 hours from Seattle and is really in the wilderness. There is wild life all around. We were a little worried about bears but the immediate area around the cabin is well lit and clear with sight lines and the river which seems far more like a lake, a close 3 minute walk. The water temperature in August was very comfortable and we swam for hours in clear and clean water straight from the mountains. It is really deep and there is a little current for smaller children but my dogs and I had no problem swimming up river without too much effort. Tracy and Dan have added nice little touches to make our stay really pleasant, Condiments, butter, spices, sugar and coffee just in case we did not have everything with us. Comfortable bedding and furniture. It is a few miles to a store so pack what you need. They also provided a lovely hammock, and kayaks We never left the cabin and our private spot on the river. I highly recommend this cabin if you are the type of person who loves being out in the wilderness and comfortable with the solitude and vastness of untouched mountains and forests. Unfortunately harder and harder to find. We had no problem with WIFI but cell reception depends on your carrier. AT@T had no coverage but T Mobile did.

Wow, wow, wow

This property is one of a kind. Perfect location for those who like seclusion and to unwind. The view is amazing, the water is amazing, the cabin is cozy and we felt right at home. Had everything we needed to cook, grill if we wanted, and even some good seasonings in the cupboards. The beds were so comfortable! Tracy and Dan were so responsive to us as well. I like finding gems like this where you’re connected with the owners. We’ll definitely be back! Hopefully it’s not booked out for months ;) Thank you Tracy and Dan!

Beautiful and relaxing stay

We had a lovely time staying at The Riverhouse. The house itself is clean and had everything we needed for our stay, plus extras. Outside is so peaceful, relaxing on the hammock, taking a kayak out, or sitting by the fire hearing the fish splash as they jump out of the water. We would love to return!

Loved our time here! Tracy was an amazing host, responded to all our inquiries before, during and after. Kitchen has all the utensils, pots, pans… all you need for your meals. The space is super comfortable, we felt right at home. It’s a gorgeous place, it’s private, clean and quiet. We will be back. It’s our new favorite place away from home. Thank you Tracy!

About the host

Hosted by Tracy

Host profile image
Hi,
We're Dan & Tracy.
Dan is from Montana and I'm his city-slicker (turned Montanan) wife.
Dan is a contractor and musician, and I'm a hairstylist and fmr. professional dancer.
We're both studying and practicing soil health and regenerative gardening in hopes of offering future guest fresh you-pick veggies from our small garden.

After our industries took a hit during Covid, we decided to move out to our property full-time and start giving it the love and attention it needed, and deserved.
We have been privately hosting our friends and family for over a decade and decided to take it to the next level by creating Sleepingman Retreat, a place in nature for many, not too far from a town, but far enough to unwind and relax.
We hope you enjoy it as much as our past guests have.

Why they chose this property

It's beautiful, secluded, private and on the water.

What makes this property unique

Guest are on 5 acres with 600 feet of waterfront that are secluded and totally private (aside from some boat traffic from neighbors) there are no structures across the water (it’s ranch land & forestry). The house is on our private property of 20 acres with neighboring private properties on each side of us. You might see us on the road when entering/leaving the property but you are completely secluded down below so even though you're in a small town/residential area you'll feel like you're in the middle of no-where.
You can take short forested walks on the property, access the water for swimming, kayaking, or if you're want to bring your boat you can use one of the 2 local boat launches.
