About this property
Private Luxury Cabin, Stunning Mountain Views & Hot Tub by Shenandoah
Soak in the sweeping mountain views and let the serenity of nature soothe your soul. Perched on 14 acres and bordered by wildlife lands, Lazy Bear Oaks offers unobstructed views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in every season—from spring’s tender blooms to lush summer greens, fiery fall foliage, and snow-dusted winter peaks. Just outside the city, yet truly a world away.
Rustic charm meets modern luxury in this turn-of-the-century cabin. With redwood siding, a patinaed copper roof, and a stacked fieldstone fireplace, every detail reflects timeless craftsmanship. Inside greets you with post-and-beam construction, heated pine floors, curated antiques, authentic taxidermy, and hand-painted art creating a space that’s warm, character-filled, and uniquely cozy.
Take in the sunset from the western-facing balcony or sip coffee on the screened porch as a breeze rustles the trees. Fire up the grill—whether the park-style by the picnic table or the combo grill on the deck. Gather around the natural stone firepit for s’mores beneath a star-studded sky. Follow step stones and landscape lighting to a spacious 636 sq ft deck, complete with outdoor dining and lounge seating. Let the mountain views and warm bubbles of the 5-person hot tub melt your stress away.
Inside, there’s room to sleep 7 – 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a sleeper sofa in the basement, and a loft with a convertible sleeper chair. The main-floor master features a queen Tempur-Pedic Cloud and barnwood furniture; the upstairs guest room has a queen Beautyrest and a vintage clawfoot tub with overhead shower in the bathroom. The basement and master baths have walk-in showers. The kitchen features soapstone counters, a Viking range, and cast iron or Calphalon cookware for culinary adventures. Need to log on? The main-floor office with dual monitors has you covered. In the living area, a 65” QLED TV sits above the mantle—perfect for movie nights or curling up by the fireplace after a day of exploring. Whether you’re here to explore, recharge, or just take in the views— your adventure awaits at Lazy Bear Oaks!

Lazy Bear Oaks is nestled between Greene and Madison County in a peaceful holler surrounded by mountains and streams. The gravel driveway is accessible by a paved, state-maintained, road. It is about a two-hour drive from Richmond and Washington DC and just 24 miles from Charlottesville–Albemarle Airport. Nearby Adventures: Shenandoah National Park’s Swift Run Gap entrance (14 miles), Rapidan Wildlife Management Area (WMA) of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), Conway River (1 mile), Massanutten Resort (skiing, snow tube, swim, etc.), and much more. Wine Country: Monticello & Montpelier Wine Trails/AVAs, Early Mountain Vineyards (11 miles), DuCard Vineyards (26 miles), Revalation Vineyards (20 miles), Barboursville Vineyards (25 miles), and more.
We want you to have a 5-star stay. Please be aware of the following:
1) We are on conservation land where wildlife is abundant. Please be aware of regulations about wildlife and its presence.
2) We have high-speed internet for streaming. The smart TV features popular streaming apps, and there is also a blue ray/DVD with a small library of movies. HDMI and C-port video cables are already connected to the TV.
3) Most cell phone providers have coverage at the cabin; however, roads and areas leading up to Lazy Bear Oaks have intermittent coverage.
4) Living close to nature brings insects which may make their way into the cabin’s interior.
5) You may want to enjoy the propane patio heater on the screened-in porch for those cooler evenings. While we don’t keep the tank continuously stocked due to its quick usage, you’re welcome to refill it at the country store 15 minutes away for $20.
6) The cabin does not have childproofing or amenities to accommodate children.
