Great little enclave

I got the royal treatment when the road closures delayed my arrival. The property manager and car rental pick up driver collaborated to make sure my arrival was as quick and painless as possible. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen well appointed, the pool was beautifully situated to give a glorious view to the sea. And community inhabitants were super friendly. There was no problem extending my stay a few days. Jason and the property manager were so accommodating.

Nice Location

Nice location to explore Panama. A nice natural setting. There was a lot of confusion with check-in, but it was due to flight delays. In the end, everything worked out fine.

Gorgona beach villa

My wife and I spent 6 months in Jason’s property in Gorgona. We really enjoyed the area, the beach, and the relaxed way of life found in Gorgona. You can walk for miles, enjoy a cold beer, and buy fish directly from the fishermen on the beach. Costa Grande is an 18 unit villa community. They have just refreshed the pool where we spent much of our winter lol. Jason’s Villa is a typical Panamanian property within walking distance to several small restaurants and corner stores. We had no car and found both the local bus system and cab services more than adequate for grocery shopping in Coronado. The local cabs will take you to Panama City for less than $100 or take the bus for $2.00. If you want a fantastic place to spend your winter look no further.

A tropical home away from home

Fantastic trip, Jason and Mayela have taken care of everything to make your stay truly enjoyable. I was looking for a place to use as a base to explore panama and this was an excellent location. On the beaches but still close to Panama City and the mountain town of El Valle. Property location was found easily using google maps. The road into the property is not paved but its no issue for any car. The furnishings were everything I needed for an extended stay and comfortably would sleep 4. Just walk down to the beach and you can buy fish fresh off the boats, then cook them on the patio grill. The pool on the property has a fantastic view and is perfect to have morning coffee or afternoon and evening drinks. I found the other Costa Grande residents to be very helpful with tips of the local area and advice on getting settled in. The area is a nice mix of Expats and Panamanians which is something that I wanted. I would recommend you have a rental car if you will be there for an extended time. Great trip.

Nice villa in a lovely spot

My husband and I spent 8 days here during the rainy season (which pretty much means sunny in the morning, getting cloudy during the mid-to-late afternoon, and torrential rains in the evening) and we loved it! The villa was just right for us - cute and clean and well secured. The manager is very responsive and dependable. We had a couple of plumbing problems that were addressed immediately. Otherwise everything was perfect. When planning our trip, we wanted to avoid a tourist feel, so shied away from the high-rise condominiums that are plunked here and there along the coast, in favor of a more authentic Panamanian setting. Costa Grande is exactly that. It has a very pretty pool, grounds and view, and is situated in a somewhat rural fishing village. Still, restaurants, gas stations and a supermarket are only 4 or 5 miles away in Coronado. FYI - There are several small markets and fruit/vegetable stands along the way between the highway and the turnoff for Costa Grande, and there's a little gift shop that has very pretty crafted items that are half the price of similar goods in El Valle! We had no trouble with the roads getting there. The dirt road is only for the last portion of the trip, less than a mile, I think. It has some big potholes in a couple of spots, but they are easy to avoid. There are a number of dirt roads in the town. We found that some of them end at a quiet spot on the ocean! We would definitely rent this villa again if we return to this area.

Good,

Certainly need a car to get around, even if you like walking things are too far away, the side roads are terrible, need a car with clearance on the bottom, for most of roads, except main one....

It was exactly what we needed

We are a family of fit traveling with two younger children, ages 6 and 8. It is always a challenge finding the right combination of comfort, convict and affordability. This place had it all. I'm sure I'd we had never left the premises, the kids would have been just fine. Some of the highlights included: -pool with both a shallow and deep section. We probably went swimming three times a day! -semi-private backyard with seating and clothesline -front patio with chairs for relaxing -two bedrooms -reliable WiFi -private secure location with good amenities nearby -close to beaches Not that it would have made much of a difference, there is a nice community of North Americans to share information with. For anyone considering a bar to explore this region from, we would recommend this rental.

nice time at Costa Grande

Had a nice 2 week stay in this villa. No problem reaching Mayela or Jason by phone anytime. The pool was great, house stocked with everything. Too bad the couches are not comfortable. After a few plumbing issues, all is fixed now. Suitable for one couple but not two. The refrigerator and stove are not full size, best to eat out. La Ruina restaurant owner speaks English. Would recommend brushing up on your Spanish cause no locals speak English. Would stay again.

Relaxing and away from it all

Costa Grande was great. It was fantastic to have the grill and the back patio setup, where we cooked amazing dinners with the fresh catch from the fish market. We spent a lot of time in the pool and hanging out with the neighbors. The wifi was perfect. Mayela was very friendly and helpful in making sure we had everything we needed and everything in the house was working properly. Everything was clean, the listing was accurate, the pool was wonderful. The one downside was that we didn't end up with a rental car, for a variety of reasons, and ended up feeling pretty stuck. We had a hard time getting cabs at the place. I know we had the phone from Mayela but many of the numbers didn't work so we typically just walked a ways until we found a cab or got to the main road for a bus. Coming from America, I forget that the speed of life in LatAm slows down so much, so we found it hard to find things to do. Overall though, it was an incredibly relaxing get away and I would absolutely recommend working with Jason and Mayela for your next visit.

Plumbing issues with no response from owner

We just spent 2 weeks at this villa and I don't like to be that person that writes a negative review but as I rely heavily on other peoples reviews when selecting a vacation rental I feel I should share our experience so that others can make an informed decision. This is a nice little villa in a nice complex. The patio and BBQ are a nice feature and it is fully stocked with everything that you need. When we arrived the property manager met us and went over everything. As she was leaving she informed us that we would not have any hot water...at all. She said that because it was dry season there was not enough water pressure for the water heater to work. And that it shouldn't be a big deal as the water isn't cold in Panama anyway. (Not true)After meeting several people in the complex and finding out that they all had hot water I contacted both the owner and property manager as we not only did not have hot water we also had nothing but a dribble of water in the kitchen and bathroom taps.We were given the runaround for 3 days that it was going to be checked. My last communication from the owner was welcome to life in Panama and if you stay long enough you learn to roll with it. After 4 days with no hot water and almost no water pressure at all I emailed requesting a refund so we could find other accommodations and was given no response. Never heard from the owner again. Also, this is advertised as a gated community. It does have a rolling gate that is unmanned and never locked. Anyone can come and go without question. Our first week there 2 of the units were broken into while the guests were sleeping. They had cash stolen and the intruders were in their bedrooms while they were sleeping. The roads to get into the property are terrible with huge ruts and there is garbage everywhere. Not litter, big piles of garbage all over the roadways that are lit on fire to burn at night. I like go for long walks and this is not an area where it is pleasant to do so. Positives: nice little villa, nice complex, we'll stocked. Nice clean pool. Met lots of great people. Mostly Canadians and Americans. Had excellent seafood fresh off the boats in the morning.Good central location to explore Panama. Some good restaurants in the area but you certainly won't have dinner and drinks for anything close to $12. Most of the units in this complex are rented out. If you decide to stay here I suggest you get a written contract that the plumbing issues have been rectified.

Great view

The villa is in a great location. The house is well equipped and the owners and manager go out of there way to make sure everything is working. We did have a problem with hot water pressure, but that's life on the beach. Everyone in the villa is friendly and helpful. The pool is kept very clean and there is a great view of the ocean from the pool area. The beach is about a city block away, but worth the walk. We went to the beach in the morning and watched the locals harvest oysters. If you like to meet the locals you can walk to the local beach bar. The first bar is for the partiers, the second smaller is more family oriented. VERY rustic! Sunday nights we would have beef on a stick and a beer for a dollar each!! Relax and watch the kids have a ball in the black sand. (If you prefer high end restraunts, this is not for you). Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect escape from the city.

We only had two days to have a quick trip away from the City before flying home so the cottage was perfect, we all wished we could have spent a week. Mayela was extremely helpful and the location close to the beach was great. Unfortunately our rental car fell through so we couldn't rent boards and surf Malibu beach but the beach was great for body surfing and watching the locals with their fishing boats.

6/10 Okay

More than a few steps to the beach.

The description says "you are just steps away from the beach." Not true. The picture makes it seem like you can walk from the pool straight to the ocean. It is a long walk or short ride to the beach. The road to this villa is several hundred yards long with huge potholes some filled with bricks. I poked a hole in my rental car gas tank traveling at 10 mph and had to have it towed the first day I was there. Max speed should be 5 mph. There is on site maintenance to keep things clean. The pool is small but very nice. The microwave is on top of the refrigerator which makes it difficult to use. In my opinion, the kitchen is good for snacks, not meals. There are about 12 units all very close together and everyone is very friendly. Coronado is about 10 minutes away with all the shopping you will need. Mayela, the manager, is very helpful with anything you might need. They require cash to be wired to them for the deposit, which I was hesitant to do, but they are trustworthy. I give it 3 1/2 stars but not 4. I would not go back mainly because of the bad, bad road to the villa.

A peaceful stay

I loved the rental all you need to stay short or long term. Great BBQ out back. The pool was very relaxing overlooking the ocean. We had been traveling for weeks so the washer/ dryer was much appreciated. We will be back hopefully for a month instead of a week. Thanks for fitting us in at such short notice!

Great Place !

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this casa ! There was four of us and we found it quite comfortable. The patio in the back is large and has a nice BBQ. The kitchen is quite well equipped and suited our needs. The couches were a bit small and not very comfortable, but we spent very little time indoors. Be careful with the use of air conditioning as it may put you over your electricity limit. We did need to use the air conditioning - but we just turned it on long enough to cool it off inside while we were cooking. There is a fan in one of the bedrooms to use at night rather than the air/con. It would be helpful to have another fan for the second bedroom. We loved the location, it was a very short drive to the stores in Coronado which are excellent. I would highly recommend a rental car while there. The ocean view is beautiful and it is a short walk to the beach. We bought fresh fish from the fish market right on the beach in front of the casa. We used the pool everyday - and met some very nice people that were also staying there as well as some of the owners that were there. I would highly recommend this location.

Enjoyed our stay

My wife and I stayed here Oct. 1 thru 15 on a property hunting trip to the Gorgona/Coronado area. We were in no way disappointed in the property, it was as described. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and the pool clean. Dimas, the caretaker was extremely helpful and friendly. The unit has air conditioners, but we never used them; just not needed during the rainy season. Please keep in mind this is not a luxury condo; but if you want a clean, safe and reasonably priced place to stay, this fits the bill. Panama is an outdoor place, you won't want to spend a lot of time indoors. The ocean view from the pool is fantastic and if you want the beach it is a short walk away. If you aren't the walking type, you can easily drive right to the beach and park. We didn't use the cooking facilities, because frankly it is very inexpensive to eat in restaurants. There are numerous restaurants in the area and you MUST go to La Ruina Tavern for a meal and cold beer (google it). A note about the roads. The last quarter mile is a dirt road, that can get bumpy. This is NOT unique to this property. If you are contemplating staying inside Coronado, I guarentee you from previous experience that you will have to drive farther on worse roads. That being said, don't get talked into needing an SUV if you are renting a car, you can get around just fine with an economy car. Mayela, the property manager, was very helpful and has perfect English. She was always available by phone (use the provided cell phone) or email. The wireless internet functioned well, no problems at all. The owner is very honest in describing this as best suited for 1 - 2 adults. It would be quiet cramped for two couples. We would definately consider staying here again on our next visit. Notice I gave the property an excellent. I did this based on price, expectations based on owners description and previous experiences with rentals.

I am a Canadian Real Estate Agent with a passion for Freedom and knowledge - I love new things and Panama amazes me everytime I have been there , which is 15+ trips over 15 years

Why they chose this property

This area is very quiet and away from it all however very close to every amenity you could ever want including two 24 hour grocery stores, walking distance to a local fish market down the beach. It's not a tourist only town - it's a great mix of North Americans and people from around the world, each willing to share a story or two.

What makes this property unique

We have a welcome binder that we email to our guests upon payment of deposit that includes our 14+ years of wisdom about Panama and the area. It's amazing. Our guest also love to walk down to the local fish co-op in the morning to get the catch of the day , and you can ask the fishermen to fillet it for about 50 cents.
