First the house is spectacular! We had 3 generations stay here. The house worked perfectly for all of us! It is nicer than the pictures show. The kitchen has been updated and there are lots of games & fun things to do at the house. The host was super responsive. Any questions we had were answered very quickly.
However, the drive to get to the house needs mentioning. This is a mountain house! The views are beautiful, but it means you have to drive up mountain roads to get there. The roads are narrow, windy and steep! There are several hairpin turns with mountain drop offs on either side of the road. These roads, at points, are only dirt & rocks also. The driveway is mentioned to be steep but it’s not just steep. It has a turn with a circular rock wall on the right with a drop off on the left. It’s hard to see where you are going up the steep drive at this point. Additionally driving up these roads/driveway in the dark is not for the faint of heart! We ultimately did get used to it after a couple of days. So if you are up for the adventure/challenge of white knuckling the steering wheel to get to the house then go for it! You will enjoy it when you get there!
The views from the property were gorgeous and made for a lovely stay at the house. While our group spent most of our time visiting the downtown area of Tryon, the house was a perfect place to return each evening and offered everything we needed for a nice, cozy stay.
We enjoyed our wonderful stay here on Melrose Mountain! This home and yard was very fun for our children and pets! They loved running and playing, the fenced in area made it much better. The house is beautiful and open and the dining area has great views! I definitely would love to take my family here again. The downside was the trash, the details state there is a bin for up to 3 bags but we didn’t see that and ended up taking about 8 bags of trash offsite which was a bit hard. Cleanliness of the bathrooms and kitchen area were not as great, as the kitchen refrigerator had a smell and the fridge in garage had a lot of old food. But no stay is absolutely PERFECT, so minor issues only. We are blessed.
Our family, comprised of parents, three grown children, one significant other and our old dogs enjoyed the property. We cooked, slept late, walked a lot and visited Saluda and Tryon. Peaceful weekend, easy trip from our home in the Midlands of South Carolina.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house is so very spacious. Plenty of room to spread out and plenty of spots to gather. However, the real attraction is the view. Spectacular! We loved sitting on the back deck and watching the sun rise and fall.

Liked: Check-in, communication
Disliked: Location
Family wedding attended by 2 adults & 4 seniors
2 king bedrooms get great ratings
Basement rooms are all sub standard
Basement bathroom badly needs upgrade
Queen bedroom needs new mattress
Unable to find washer/Dryer until late Friday and no iron or board
Outside grounds need maintenance
Vrbo Warning about drive up the hill to this location would have been appreciated NOT just the steep driveway!
10 miles on the map from Tryon translated to a 45 minute drive to the church
Overall making this a poor choice for our needs.
The views from the property were great. 4 adults and 5 kids enjoyed the weekend running around in the yard and playing games on the big deck. The driveway is super steep and tight (like you may need 4WD), but the parking pad is big and flat. The size of the lot and the distance between houses were a pleasant surprise in the mountains.
On to the negatives…the house needs more rugs and furniture. It did not feel overly cozy, especially the main-floor master. Vaulted ceilings and creaky floors make walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night sound like someone is filming a war move in your bedroom. A better-equipped kitchen would be appreciated as well, but honestly it was pretty standard as far as rentals go. My biggest complaint was the cleanliness. There were dead bugs all over downstairs, fruit flies in the FROG bathroom, the pans were dirty, coffee on the counter, toilets weren’t clean. It also smelled very musty when we arrived, which did clear out after getting some fresh air in.
Overall, could be a great house with more furnishings and better cleaning.
Gorgeous view and lots of space inside the house! Loved having a pack and play and high chair, plus some toys and plastic plates etc. Open stairways though, so not great for my toddler.
This house was awesome! Very spacious and came equipped with everything we needed. Overall, we had great experience. The host was amazing! We locked ourselves out of the house, thanks to a fast response we were inside in less than 3 mins. A good host is always appreciated!
Please note if your from the city like me, be prepared for the STEEP HILLS AND TURNS!
we enjoyed this location due to our love for nature
overall experience was good
Roads are narrow with blind turns
we will advice everyone to travel in daylight
We felt Kitchen was too small and not fully equipped compared to other vacation rentals we have been too
My suggestion is to add more pots pans paper products and supplies
upstairs bedroom must have door for better privacy.
This place was wonderful! Spacious enough for our family of 5 to be spread out and enough seats to come together to eat or watch a movie. Our dogs and kids loved the backyard! We only wish it was a longer visit.
