This cabin was just what we were hoping for. Quiet area with lots of activities nearby. Loved the open kitchen and living area. Lots of seating for watching TV and visiting. Lots of firewood provided- outside fire pit was awesome. Bring supplies like toilet paper and paper towels if you are staying more than a day or 2.
The house was fairly nice, great location & loved the large deck and fenced area for the pups. Subtracting a point for cleanliness as the oven & microwave were so dirty that we had to scrub them ourselves. Otherwise, we enjoyed the stay. Be advised, the house is a bit drafty, so if you're staying during a cold snap, bring some extra blankets!
We celebrated my husband’s 75th birthday with our son and daughter-in-law. Very comfortable, great outdoor space, extremely dog friendly! Only suggestion — need a bigger coffee pot.
My family has been coming to Scaly since 1979, and ever since my grandmothers cabin was sold in 2006, my family makes a point to rent a cabin and come up every year. Of all the cabins we've stayed in, this has been our favorite property: the views, the fire pit, the privacy and quiet! we definitely will be back :)
Spent the weekend celebrating wife’s birthday with kids under 10. Large lot cabin with multiple gathering locations indoor and out. Clean functional with Rokus and plenty of entertainment. Great access to Clayton GA and Highlands NC. Very accessible host and feels like home more than rental. Authentic experience compared to many in the area.
The property was exactly what we were looking for, a place in the mountains with a lovely view. It's a rustic, interesting place with great atmosphere.
We travelled as a family of 4 including our dog, we had a great stay and property was well stocked and very clean . Owner was very responsive to our queries . Looking forward to a stay again and for a longer duration ,
This property was everything I was looking for. The location was very private, it was a mountain top view my family wanted, the log cabin atmosphere was spectacular, the wrap around porch was fabulous for views of the rolling mountains and endless stars at night.
If you need a getaway and want to be isolated, this is definitely the place to do it. The cabin is beautiful and the scenery overlooking the mountains is too. The property manager was very easy to reach. We had a great 2 day stay.
The directions were great from the owner. The kitchen was well stocked. The home was very spacious and we enjoying the tranquility and views from the cabin.
It is a little remote, so a car that can handle a gravel road is ideal. It was nice to get away from the city
We had a great time at this house. It’s a perfect house for a family with a couple kids and great for dogs. The upstairs bedroom is basically a loft so as long as you plan to go to sleep after everyone is done in the living room it’s fine. Beautiful view from the deck and the location is secluded so it’s very quiet. Highly recommend this house! We look forward to coming back again in the future.
The views really are beautiful, the wrap around porch and decks were perfect for enjoying a cozy and welcoming getaway. We loved this cabin! The owners tried to think of everything you would need and provided it, it was just such a comfortable and pleasant escape. Big stone fireplace, soaring ceiling, an abundance of tv’s and towels. The wooded drive, beautiful landscaping, comfy indoor and outdoor chairs plus a fire pit too. This cabin was a delight!
We really enjoyed the peace and quiet along with the amazing views that Bear Den had to offer.
The cabin was far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown yet was the perfect base camp location for our fall foliage extravaganza.
There were lots of scenic overlooks and waterfalls in the surrounding areas.
April and Eric were always a text away to answer any questions that we had.
We definitely will be back!
What a beautiful place this was to enjoy a weekend with my family! All the extra touches of a goody basket when we first arrived, cold drinks in the fridge, cuddly blankets galore and SHARP KNIVES - which you NEVER find in a rental! The balcony was wonderful for sitting under, listening to the rain fall - and rain, it did!! The entire time! It was nice, though, letting us "cocoon" all weekend and spend time together. All in all, it was a great stay and would love to go back again!
My husband and I took my parents for a week long stay to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary and their 67th wedding anniversary. Just pulling up to the property we were already overwhelmed with the beauty and the view. Then walked in the house and felt comfy immediately. Everything was clean. The tv was set up easy to get all our apps to work. The basket with s’mores ingredients was a plus and we had a fire one night and used them. We ate at The Dillard House and The Ugly Dog and Wild Thyme. Loved all three of them. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the home and he was beyond kind. We never thought of anything we needed or wanted that wasn’t there. Just a wonderful stay overall.
Has potential but needs work. Not enough working lighting in main rooms. No a/c in the loft and while the main floor can be cooled, the loft gets all the hot air with no escape. Fans help in the cooler nights and mornings but not during the day.
Bathrooms are nice, showers have great pressure and very hot water. Plenty of linens provided but no soap!
TVs in each bedroom but only only living room and loft TVs worked. Smart TVs so be prepared to use your own streaming networks or the one live ap. Kitchen appliances are nice and plenty of cooking and serving pieces.
Cabin is on a very private dirt road .6 miles from paved road. Not difficult to navigate but hope you don't have someone coming the other way.
Sunsets are awesome and spent most time on the back porch with a book.
The back porch sold us on the cabin. Beautiful views! It was a quiet restful place to land after a long drive. This was our first trip to highlands. We had a great time.
Some improvements I would recommend is the lighting in the kitchen and great room. Many lights were not working. The light above the kitchen sink was not working. We did eat most of our meals in the cabin. Hard to cook when the lights were not working. Only one light in great room was working. The inside flood lights were also not working, which made the great room dark.
The ceiling fan in the downstairs bedroom on the right was not working. We ended up using the portable fan, which was a life saver because the window unit didn't work the greatest.
The screen on the front door was torn. May want to fix that soon because it made it difficult to open and close the door.
Improvements aside, it was a wonderful place. Loved the fenced in porch. We brought our little Boston terrier and it was wonderful not to have to watch him constantly. Made it safe for pets, which was awesome!
The property is located at the end of a private drive. Only 2 other homes on this road & all of the homes are very spaced out. Very private and secluded. The views from the back of the home of the mountains are beautiful. The wrap around porch is amazing. 2 options for enjoying a fire outside. The home has everything you would need for a short or long term stay. Although the property was not in a guest ready state upon our arrival & we ended up spending several hours cleaning the areas we would use, the property manager handled the issue, & we were able to enjoy the rest of our stay. Understanding that the house is in the middle of the forest surrounded by trees, there is definitely a lot of insects, in particular bees. Carpenter bees. They found a way into the home, as there was a vast amount of dead bees everywhere inside the home. During our stay, we did not encounter any live ones inside, however there was quite a few always around on the porch. If you don't bother them, they leave u alone. A plus for this home is that it is dog friendly & the outside porch is completely secure, so we had our fur babies with us at all times outside and it was great. The Scaly Mountain area in general is beautiful and the people are so nice. We especially love Michelle and Darren at Scaly Mountain Crafters. A must stop to shop local & do a wood working class. Minutes away is the mountain coaster.Highlands 15min. Lots of parks & waterfalls nearby.Ingles groceries. Great home/area
Great mountain getaway - great views and close proximity to highlands and hiking. As advertised. Note that sound does travel well within cabin mostly if you’re in upstairs loft which can be a negative.
This was a wonderful cabin, beautiful view, well equipped. The enclosed deck and fenced yard were great for my dog. When we arrived, we saw a nest of yellow jackets in the fenced area. The owner was notified and came out the next morning to get rid of it. We will return.
