About this property

On the Water at Lake Burton

Availability: May 15 - November 30;

This unique house is located in Perrin Cove on the beautiful emerald green waters of Lake Burton. The homesite once was the location of a 1920's fishing cabin with a handsome rock fireplace. Through the years, the cabin was eventually reclaimed by the mountains, but the fireplace remained. In 1960, the current owners discovered the fireplace and built a small, cozy cabin around it. Later on, two large additions were made to the little cabin: one for a master bedroom suite, and one for a large dining room. Also added to the grounds were a two-story garage and a two-story boathouse.
The house and outbuildings are rustic and family friendly.

The main house itself has four bedrooms, each with a full bathroom. There is also a sleeping loft with twin beds. The original house has its own screened-in front porch and sitting area with porch swing, and also has the original wood-burning rock fireplace (there is a generous supply of wood stacked on the grounds). The 'new' part of the house has a large living room with gas logs in the fireplace, a spectacular dining room with a huge round table and its own fireplace with gas logs, galley kitchen, large master suite, and a large wooden deck with a hot tub. There are views of the lake from the porch, deck, master bedroom, living room and dining room.

Down the hill is the two-story boathouse with a separate bedroom (no bathroom). Sit on the porch swings and hammock and let your cares fade away. For the more active vacationers, swimming, boating and kayaking are absolutely fabulous in this pristine lake!

Up the hill from the main house is the two-story garage. A curving covered walkway lets you escape those mountain showers during loading and unloading your car when getting from the garage to the house. Above the garage is a separate, private queen bedroom and bath with shower; and there is a wonderful little porch with an Adirondak chair waiting for you.

The water in Lake Burton is some of the cleanest in the state--it holds the most beautiful colors of nature, reflecting the green trees in spring and summer, the autumn hues in fall, and the bright blue of the skies in winter. There are two marinas on Lake Burton where you can rent a boat and tour the lake or have fun skiing, wake-boarding, and tubing.

The area surrounding Lake Burton holds many pleasant surprises for those adventurous enough to leave the lake. Try your hand at trout fishing, whitewater rafting, exploring nearby waterfalls, and hiking the mountain trails. There are several wine and distillery tours close to the lake. Clayton is nearby, and Highlands, NC is a short trip, too. And don't miss the local places like Goats on the Roof (they really are on the roof!), and the Alpine town of Helen.

For those who like to eat great food, don't miss LaPrade's (casual grill as well as restaurant) on Lake Burton. Drive a little further, and visit Fortify in Clayton and the Rabun Hotel on Lake Rabun.

If you prefer to eat in, there are two Big Green Eggs and also a conventional barbeque grill ready to fire up and use at the house.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: We are taking precautions that are recommended by the CDC to make every attempt to have clean and safe premises for our vacationers! There is a minimum of 24 hours (usually 36-48 hours) between rentals. The cleaning crew is using disinfectants to clean all hard surfaces. Bed linens and towels are being washed in hot water with detergent and Lysol laundry additive. Bathrooms and kitchen are being cleaned and re-cleaned with disinfectants.

Unfortunately, we are NOT able to provide the use of our membership at Waterfall Country Club for the summer of 2022. The Club changed its policy on non-members using the facilities and golf course and we have no control over the situation.

Family & Friends Mountain Lake Weekend

Total of 9 of us stayed on the lake for a long weekend, brought our boat & had a blast. Nothing like spending all day on the lake, coming to your own dock, lighting a fire and grilling some meat on the green eggs. Great Setting and cabin feel, tons of history, lots of thought. Great communication, love lake Burton!

A wonderful lakeside retreat!

We had a wonderful stay at Lake Burton in this gem of a cabin. Our family had people from 62yrs down to 2 yrs of age. Everyone had a blast! There were 2 paddle boards provided and we rented a pontoon boat for 3 days of our stay from LaPrades Marina. I highly recommend them and renting a boat. The cabin has a wonderful history as it was built and added onto over the years. It has 3 bedrooms upstairs and 1 bedroom dowstairs. All bedrooms have bathrooms; with the exception of the master all bathrooms are tiny and rustic. There is also a bedroom above the garage with a bathroom. The boathouse has a bedroom as well, but it does not have a bathroom. The kitchen is a galley style kitchen and had everything we needed to prepare delicious meals. I do want to mention that this home is built on a hillside so there are steps everywhere! Going from the parking area down to the cabin. Inside the cabin, there are steps to the different levels of the patios outside and several steps down to the boathouse. Not a problem for us, but I mention this because this home and property would not accessible for handicapped persons with limited mobility. The hot tub was a big hit with our group as was the top of the boathouse which is fitted with a table and chairs, a hammock, 2 swings, a loveseat, and 3 morechairs. This area is amazing and we spent a lot of time there. Our family made lovely memories in this little slice of heaven!

True Rustic Lake House

If you are looking for a nostalgic rustic lake cabin this is it! We enjoyed our stay on beautiful Lake Burton. There are a few things which might need to be highlighted in the description one being the use of the twin beds in the loft area above the Master bedroom- these really can only be accessed and used by small children. Also there are quite a few stairs to get to the boathouse so be aware if you aren't fit this might be a challenge! All in all we had a great time even with a few glitches here and there.

This house was very accommodating for our family and the location on the lake is fantastic. You must experience family dinners at the epic dining table and an evening swing on the boathouse porch.

Rustic Done Right

What a neat spot. While "rustic" its very, very comfortable everywhere. The dock house is amazing and Lake Burton water is magical. The beds are comfy, and lots of bedrooms so everyone had space. Huge fun dining room plus great outdoor space and hot tub. Parking for several cars and good wifi for multiple "work from not home parents." Its not modern but that's the attraction and if you pay attention the history of the homesite and the house is intriguing. The steepness of the stairs both in the house and especially to the dock may be a concern for some but overall this is a pretty special place.

Fun family vacation in a rustic lake house

Lake Burton is beautiful- we rented a boat and spent most of our time on the water and down at the boat house. The house is nice, but on the rustic side. We were aware of this beforehand based on the photos, but it would definitely benefit from some updating- especially the bathrooms (mainly basement bedroom bathroom). The kitchen is very tiny with basic appliances, but overall fine. Having two fridges and an extra freezer was nice, and the large round dining room table was awesome. We all had an amazing time but would probably stay somewhere else next time.

This awesome home is located in a beautiful cove on Lake Burton in north Georgia.

Very comfortable home with hot tub overlooking the lake. Wonderful two story dock too with a lot of seating and space. Plenty of other patio seating and a huge lazy Susan table in the dining room seats 10-12. We really enjoyed our trip!

Family Gathering for 80th Birthday Celebration

Property was very nice. Easy to get to and close to Clayton. Very well maintained, good amenities and lots of privacy. We really enjoyed having a dining table big enough for our entire family. The hot tub and boathouse with the hammock and sleeping swing were big hits. The sleeping quarters at the boathouse was perfect for a young single adult. The over the garage suite was great for privacy for those who had to work while at the lake. The property manager and owner were very attentive and quick to accommodate all our request. A great house on Lake Burton for a large family or multiple couples.

Bday getaway

Thoroughly enjoyed our mini vacation on beautiful lake Burton. The owner was super helpful in finding me a boat when all other were rented in the lake. The house is charming and quaint with lots of history and interesting Knick knacks to peruse. It’s located on a very quiet cove where Labrador’s and Golden retrievers swam around like in a large pool. Very friendly neighbors. Felt very safe and relaxed.

We loved this rustic lake house

The photos of this house are honest. It sits in wonderful green woods and the lake view is gorgeous! There were quite a few spider webs outside on the patio and boathouse. We heard animals scurrying on the roof at night and wondered if they were inside but we never saw bugs or animals or poop or webs inside the house. The beds are comfortable. The main floor bedroom is somewhat dungeon-like with walls of stone and mortar. The lake was just warm enough that we swam and kayaked for hours each day but cool enough to remain refreshing. The boathouse covered deck was a highlight with breezes coming through and all-day sun protection. I spent many hours on a big sofa swing with my new grandson. There are other picturesque houses and swimmers in view but the cove is big enough for all of us to ignore each other. Our family had a great vacation here!

Lake Burton Mountain House

Large rustic house. Great location on lake. Disappointed in access to sleeping loft, broken flapper in downstairs toilet and poison ivy on the steps down to the water. Had a good time in spite of these things.

Perfect for family time , great location

Great property for accommodating multiple age groups. We had our children ages 5,14, 18, 19 and 22 and this property worked perfectly for us. We spent much of our time outdoors at the boat house and on the extra large porch overlooking the beautiful lake. The beds were quite comfortable and you can tell the owners spent a great deal of time on the property and amenities. The very large unique dining table seats 10 or more and the home was cozy and welcoming. They also had a book about the house and how it came to be and the additions to the property with pictures and stories that made us feel like we knows them. Very special place!

Burton Beauty

I have been visiting Lake Burton since I was a small child, and was excited to bring my family and new daughter to experience my favorite place. Any who visit the lake will know that there are areas with the best mountain views and varying water depths at the boathouse. This home is located on a short cove and is very easy to get to the main body of the lake. Additionally, the water is still deep enough at the dock, but calm enough to swim around the cove without fear of boat traffic. The house itself is covered in mountain decor, but the room breakdown is ideal for multiple couples (each room has at least a double bed and it's own bathroom). There was plenty of space to cook group meals, enjoy the view and mountain air from the porch, and laze on the swings in the boathouse. Overall, a great rental property for a beautiful Lake Burton stay.

This property has been in the family for 2 generations, and loved by all who go there.

Why they chose this property

Lake Burton is the most beautiful lake in North Georgia. And this house is right on the lake in a quiet cove.

What makes this property unique

There are so many activities in the area that they are too numerous to count. The lake is great for swimming and boating. Shopping is so much fun around the lake, too. You can take day trips to wonderful places, even into North and South Carolina!
