About this property
Smokehouse at La Fourche- Elegant Keswick Cottage
This charming Keswick cottage was exquisitely renovated and professionally decorated in 2021 to provide comfortable elegance to guests in a quiet country setting. Located at the epicenter of early American history, it is just 6 miles from the downtown Charlottesville & UVA, and in close proximity to Virginia’s presidential homes, multiple vineyards, and the acclaimed Jean Georges restaurant at Keswick Hall. Enjoy quiet seclusion and luxury with easy access to all things Charlottesville!
The space
This fully renovated cottage includes a mix of antiques and modern furnishings thoughtfully chosen for elegance and comfort. The updated and fully equipped kitchen includes brand new appliances. The living room is located just off the kitchen, and includes a convertible couch that is perfect for children or an additional 3rd guest, as well as a dining table and counter seating facing through the opening to the kitchen. French doors lead you to a private outdoor patio seating with wonderful views of the property and countryside. The beautifully appointed bedroom features a king size bed, and black out curtains to ensure the best night sleep! The renovated bathroom with shower and tub is located directly outside the entrance to the bedroom.
The Smokehouse is located on a historic property that was originally developed in 1788 as a tavern/inn, and served as a center for regional travel, mail, and voting during America’s early days. Distinguished figures including Marquis de Lafayette stopped at the tavern on their way to visit Thomas Jefferson at Monticello. The Smokehouse was at one point a functioning smokehouse and kitchen for the property. It has since been updated several times to serve as a cozy and attractive guest house. Its bucolic setting and privacy make it the perfect location for a relaxing getaway.
