About this property

Historic home with great porch and plenty of room for your whole crew!

Historic Five Oaks, c. 1888, formerly the Flat Rock Inn, has 4 bedrooms, 4 1/2 baths, an eat-in kitchen, butler's pantry, dining room, two large sitting rooms, a small sun room and huge wrap-around porch. The house has tall ceilings and wide rooms. The two sitting rooms, dining room, and sun room all have french doors opening onto the porch. Of the 4 bedrooms, 3 have king beds and ensuite bathrooms (one with additional twin bed in dressing room), and 1 has a queen bed and hall bath - all have tvs, ceiling fans and dedicated thermostats. There are two second floor porches accessed through various bedrooms. Outside, guests have access to the circular drive and side parking area, gardens, and wrap-around porch. The main house is entirely dedicated to guests **except for one first floor back room, which is the owner's office (entered from the back garden), and the attic space which is used for storage.** There are two other buildings in the back corner of the property which are for owners' use.

Five Oaks is located in Flat Rock Village (nicknamed, "Little Charleston of the Mountains"), just a short stroll to shopping, restaurants, bakeries, a coffee shop, wood-fired pizza, BBQ, a salon & spa, the Flat Rock Playhouse, plus hiking trails at the Carl Sandburg Home historical site We're centrally located to many excellent excursions: 8-minute drive to Hendersonville, 15-minutes to Dupont State Recreational Forest, (NC's Land of the Waterfalls!) 20-minutes to Tryon International Equestrian Center,
30-minutes to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate.

Plus, orchards (5-minutes to Skytop and 15 to Grandad's and Jeter Mountain) and, vineyards! (20-minutes to multiple vineyards including "best new" wineries, Stone Ash and Marked Tree).

And, the essentials are close at hand:
Fresh Market, Hendersonville Co-op, Ingles, Publix, Harris Teeter, Johnson's Family Farm, ACE Hardware, CVS, and Van's Chocolates are all within a 10 minute drive.

Family reunion

Magnificent historic property in Flat Rock, just a short stroll (5 minute walk) to Flat Rock Village. Wonderful wrap around porch, shade trees and gardens. Jenny and Christopher, local architects, were very gracious hosts and shared the history of the property and the village with our group.

Christmas in Flat Rock

My parents live in Flat Rock and I rented this property for my family of four (me, hubby, and two teenage kids) to be near my parents during the week of Christmas. The owners are magnificent. I was so happy to see the Inn beautifully decorated for Christmas on the outside and inside. It felt just like home! The owners were there at arrival to check us in and show us around. They were so kind to leave us pastries and wine and lots of extra amenities. They put a lot of thought into making this place special and welcome for us. The kitchen was amazing for cooking our Christmas dinner! It was okay that they didn't have cooking/baking essentials because the grocery store was nearby and thankfully my mom and dad were able to supply some basics like salt/pepper/flour/sugar etc. I would recommend that they have those non perishable cooking supplies handy for future renters. However, the Inn was well stocked with high quality cooking pans, utensils, knives and beautiful dishes. It was COLD when we stayed there and this house is not equipped for the brutal cold. The upstairs heaters work amazing, but the downstairs heater was not working when we were there. There was one working fireplace downstairs in the front of the house which we all congregated in. It was so nice to play card games and be all together. We did have to go buy a space heater so we could use the rest of the downstairs. The wonderful owners were so kind and they reimbursed us for this and even dropped off another heater for us. They didn't have to do this, but it really shows how caring they are. I would definitely stay here again, but likely in the spring/summer/fall.
