About this property
Vacation room 3 - Guest house at the Wangeliner Garten
Holiday Room 3:
We are pleased to arouse your interest. The following description and pictures are intended to give you a first impression of our eco-friendly holiday homes built entirely of straw and clay. The double rooms in our bungalow built of straw bales give the visitor a special sense of living through the vault-like interior design. They have a separate access from the outside and are equipped with a private bathroom (shower and toilet). The 40 cm thick plastered with clay straw bales allow a very high insulation standard, so that the heating energy consumption is very low. In the rooms you will experience a special indoor climate, which is achieved by the combination of clay-plastered walls, the use of clay bricks and a rammed earth floor. The rooms are uniquely designed in their colors - warm, harmonious natural tones give the rooms an almost Mediterranean atmosphere. The shower rooms are plastered with a traditional Moroccan marble lime, tadelakt, which gives them a classy feel that you can literally feel. Tadelakt plaster surfaces fascinate with their color and surface structure - the shimmering, slightly wavy and lively surfaces exert a great attraction. Pets are not allowed. If booking for the same day, a phone call is required to guarantee that a colleague is on site.
z. B.: 2 nights from 91.- € (see prices under check availability) The tons, as the wonderfully curved unicellular vacation rentals on the grounds of the Wangeliner Garden are also called, go back to Professor Gernot Minke and his dedicated team. Completed in 2015, the now official guesthouse of the Wangeliner Garten is a very special building: It is the first self-supporting barrel vault construction made of bales of straw in Germany. The 5 straw ball tons were built over a period of 3 years by workshop participants from different nations. But also numerous regional craftsmen were involved in this project. Basis for the self-supporting vault are conical straw bales that have been arched into a vault and then provided with clay plaster. The insulation standard of the tons is very high, so that hardly any heating energy is needed. The underground of the building is an 80 cm thick layer of foam glass gravel, which serves as a heat-insulating and capillary-breaking foundation. Concrete foundations were installed at the most important load-bearing points. The individual rooms are equipped with a rammed earth floor treated with linseed oil. In each room a different colored loam plaster was applied. A special masterpiece is also the individually designed for all rooms beds. These were made from old looms by a local wood artist. The shower rooms of all rooms are plastered with a lime plaster similar to the traditional Moroccan tadelakt. The 'Tadelakt' mortar used for this was mixed with regional building materials. The "valleys" between the individual straw-ball barrels are filled with foamy glass gravel and mudstones and covered at the top with a 4-layer clay plaster layer. This stabilizes the straw ball barrels and serves as a buffer layer for possibly condensing air humidity. The layer of earth applied over it today houses an impressive green roof with wild herbs and grasses from the region.
Arrivals are possible from 15:00 to 18:00 and departures from 07:00 to 10:00.
