About this property

Cozy Apartment with Sauna in Historic Stone Ridge

First floor apartment in historic colonial house in the middle of Stone Ridge, NY. It offers perfect mixture of rustic and modern styles and is decorated with original pieces of art. It has a fireplace stove and a wood fired sauna in the backyard. Full kitchen is equipped with everything guests need to prepare a great meal. It is perfect for all seasons. New Paltz, Woodstock, Minnewaska, Mohonk Preserves, Shawangunk Ridge are all within the short 20 min drive.

House is a part of historical heritage of Stone Ridge and used to belong to a local blacksmith and possibly Mr Cooper himself who has his shop set up on the first floor.

A lot of small details were thought out for the guests to be comfortable, to cook meals and enjoy the place. We are serious about the cleanliness and service, ready to go the extra step to make sure guests enjoy their stay and keep improving the place all the time.

Entry is through the porch via the door with the keyless lock.

We have code locks so check-in does not require my presence. However, I am local and would be happy to provide any support that is needed to make your stay better. You can dial or text my cell number and ask any questions in regards to your stay or any local advice you might need.

The house is located in Historical district of Stone Ridge, NY and within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, arts centers, yoga and more.

Mohonk preserve and famous Minnewaska State Park are within a short 20 minutes drive with its well-maintained biking trails, crystal clear swimmable lakes, hiking trails, rock climbing and breathtaking views of the Hudson valley from over 2,000 feet high.

In the short vicinity there are also 4 wineries, plenty of restaurants including famous Brauhaus (German food)

Art centers, organic farms, ski, skydiving, horse back riding, rock climbing, paragliding and many many more.

The friendly hosts are local enthusiasts and are happy to share their knowledge of the best spots and variety of the local activities with the guests of the house.

We have parking for 2 cars. Please park on the parking that is on the left side of the house (when facing it). Right side parking is for the upstairs apartment guests.

Public transportation

Directions from New York City:

There is a regular bus service from Port Authority bus terminal near Time Square. You will get off either in town of Rosendale NY and then take Uper/Lyft to arrive in 10 minutes (about $15) or you get off earlier in New Paltz and the bus station ticket officer will arrange a taxi ride for you which will take about 15 minutes (about $20-$25)

You can buy bus tickets directly from the bus operator, Trailways.

Local bus:

Local bus stop is within 7 walking minutes. It goes to Kingston in the North and Kerhonkson in the South.

Things to do around:
Apartment is located within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, yoga studios and groceries. There is also plenty of active stuff to do including biking, hiking, swimming, rock-climbing, skydiving, paragliding, wine tasting, restaurants, art centers, organic farms, harvest (apples, blueberries, peach, raspberry etc.) picking, caving, stargazing and many more. Please check our guestbook for more information

Water quality note:
We live in the Gunks and water is well known to be hard in our region. It is full of minerals including sulfur, so it is normal to feel some smell at times. I do have water treatment systems installed. First stage is a large particle water filter which I usually change every 2-3 weeks. Second stage is a Clack water with filter medium that handles hard water. The second stage was serviced in fall 2019 by professional water treatment service. Additionally kitchen sinks are equipped with faucet filters (changed monthly) making the water suitable for drinking.

Other guests:
Please take a note that if you rent lower apartment there might be guests on the second floor and you will most probably hear them as it is an old colonial house and installation is not to the modern standards. Also there are double doors between upstairs and downstairs apartment that are securely latched for privacy from both sides.
.
Local shopping:
There are a number groceries within walking distance from the house:

First recommendation is Emmanuel's Market Place. It is about 10-15 min away on Main street going right from the house.

Davenport Farms is on Main street 15 minutes away going right from the house.

Finally, you can use Corner Store at Mobile gas station for basic necessities. it is also on Main street and only 3-5 minutes going left. It is open 24/7.

Inaccurate discription

There was a bit of confusion over booking an extra night but I honestly do feel as though that was a miscommunication. Unfortunately, the ad stated it was wheelchair accessible which it is not. I have mobility issues and this is not the place for that. Steep driveway, stones loose walking to the front door, and steep stairs outside. The house was advertised as having a washing machine which it did not have. I have a toddler and it made the trip so intensely stressful. We had to rent a car - something we weren’t going to do since we were in walking distance of restaurants, a library, and a cafe. Lastly, it was advertised as having a fenced yard. This also was not the case and the front yard is on an extremely busy road. This again, was difficult with a toddler. We had to end our trip early to find a place with these ammenities. It made everything more stressful and expensive- two things you don’t want a getaway to result in.

What a sweet place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay in this comfortable, relaxing space. I wish we were there for more than one night. The instructions for the fireplace are actually on a metal plate under the unit and is not controlled by the thermostat as mentioned in the welcome message. The heater in the living area was a little loud.
