About this property

Riverside Mountain Lodge Retreat - Historic Lodge

Our expansive 2400 sq ft cabin is built into the hillside next to the Middle St. Vrain River. This former lodge (c. 1920) is historic, but has many modern amenities like fast Wifi, Verizon Cell Extender, Apple TV, etc.. You have your own entry, patio and yard. In late spring, summer and early fall have coffee on the front patio and listen to the roaring river. In the Fall, watch the Aspen trees turn bright colors. In the Winter, watch the snow gently fall while being cozy in front of the fire.
The rustic Riverside Mountain Lodge Retreat is the main level suite in a two suite lodge. The upper level suite is called the Riverside Lodge - Relaxation in a Historic Setting. Each suite has it's own private entrance. You can also book the entire property under the name Riverside Lodge - Upper and Lower Lodge Combined.
The closest small markets by car are in Ferncliff at 12 minutes away and downtown Lyons at 15 minutes away. You can find more amenities in Boulder, Longmont, Estes Park and Nederland each at around 30 minutes away. Boulder and Longmont are your best bets for big box stores, Estes Park and Nederland are smaller mountain towns, but have good sized grocery stores and other amenities.
The lodge is across the street from the river, but you can walk along the river on the road and access the river by the county owned bridges (one bridge is right by the lodge).
Parking - two cars are allowed as there is only two parking spaces for this suite on the property. Please park only on the gravel, on the right side of the concrete pad.
The rooms are side by side and accessed through french doors. There is a king sized bed in one room and a queen and twin sized bed in the other room. The bedrooms are accessed from the living room through custom built barn style sliding door.
The original wood floors and log built frame from 1920 is the part of the rustic charm of the Riverside Mountain Lodge Retreat. There are pictures, throughout the unit, showing how the space was used as a restaurant and gathering space for travelers and the local community. If you are looking for a more updated space though, look no further than the upper suite, named the Riverside Lodge - Relaxation in a Historic Setting.

Local Piece of History

This house is broken up into an upper and lower unit. When my family was here we were in the lower unit which included two bedrooms side by side with a folding door between us. (Sucks I had to walk through someone else room to get to my room) There was a family staying in the upper unit above us and you could definitely hear everything going on up there. I did not like that I could hear when they woke up and started walking around, that the stairs to their unit were above my room, and hearing what they were doing. The listing said there was a washer and dryer but there is not one. It is a 1920s house that has been remodeled so very old fashioned. We did not like the old bathroom/tub. Trying to get into and out of the standing tub with the little circular shower curtain inside the tub was difficult and a major tripping hazard and I am a small person so i am not sure how anyone bigger would like it. Also my older parents found it difficult to get in and out of. Only a small window AC unit that doesn’t cool down the house much with fans you can put on floor to try and circulate the air to the back bedroom. It was cool to have a pool table to have something to do in the evenings after a busy day. The house wasn’t very clean when we got there and a lot of bugs. However the location and views on the vrain canyon road were amazing to get there and not far from Estes park and the Rocky Mountain national park entrances.

A lot left to be desired.

This is an old extremely charming home but left very dated and in kept. Issues listed below. I have picture evidence of all complaints. Colorado VRBO 1. Bathroom situation with shower is less than a satisfactory 2. The ad is deceiving 3. Makes out to be on creek. It is not. Creek is across road and only access is an easement 4. There is no yard with this rental. 5. The cleaning was less than satisfactory. I’m told to cover grill back up. Yet on arrival the grill cover was behind grill and had been so for a while. There is a bloody palm print in main bedroom. No television as there was no remote to tv. 6. I explained upfront that I would be bringing side by side and trailer. There is no room for either in parking accommodations 7. Mouse appeared in home on second night of stay. 8. Made several attempts thru the week to get ahold of property manager with no return call.

Riverside Mountain Lodge Retreat

The Lodge was very spacious and clean. It was very quiet and calming. I saw wild turkeys, a Bobcat, small blue birds and rodents in the rocks! We thoroughly enjoyed the large kitchen we cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner!! The beds were comfortable but the tub too small for me, lol. I would definitely come back and bring other friends to enjoy!!

Great Vacation!

We had a wonderful time staying at this charming lodge full of character. We felt like we stepped back in time in the lower level and thoroughly enjoyed the upper level! Listening to the river and birds sing while sitting outside were icing on the cake!

Up in the Mountains.

The proverbial mountain lodge. Rustic and natural. This is not a “white glove” kind of place, but rather hiking boots and cheeseburgers. All the tech works well. Internet, streaming, etc. setting is great. We actually saw a moose! Neighbor is not grumpy. I would definitely come back. Lyons is a great little town!
