Peak fall foliage viewing times are the first 2 weeks of October at this elevation.
The ski slopes usually open by Thanksgiving weekend (3rd weekend in November) each year and close by the end of March. Timing varies each season depending on weather.
Mountain biking usually opens early July each year.
Relax in the indoor pool, hot tubs (x2), sauna, steam room, or get a workout in the fitness center.
This condo is the penthouse floor of Sugar Top Resort and is located within just minutes of Sugar and Beech Mountain ski and mountain bike resorts.
There are tons of great activities in the surrounding areas such as skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, white water rafting, gem mining, zip line, mountain coaster, putt-putt miniature golf, disc golf, traditional golf, great restaurants, shopping, and Appalachian State University games.
High speed fiber internet with 1Gb/s download speeds to allow flexibility for those that may have to work a little, or just enjoy streaming Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, or HBO max one of the three Roku TV's.
An XBOX One is provided with one controller and several pre-installed games.
It is important to also note that this unit has very strong 5G cell reception for both AT&T and Verizon customers.
All odd numbered floors in the building have washer and dryer machines next to the Citadel doorway that are coin operated for your convenience.
Parking is located near the guard house, and a courtesy shuttle will be available 24 hours a day to drop you off right at the front door of the Resort.
In the winter months, Sugar Mountain provides a bus that runs every 30 minutes to take guests to and from the resort guard station to the slopes.
None of the units in Sugar Top were built with air conditioning. At 5,200 feet, the air is typically much cooler even in the hottest summer months. The bedrooms have ceiling fans, and the windows do have screens.
You will have the entire condo to yourself. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. 4 guests maximum.
This unit is not childproof ready and is not appropriate for infants and young toddlers.

This condo sits on the very top floor of the majestic Sugar Top Resort in Sugar Mountain, NC. This is the very heart of Highland Country where you can take advantage of skiing, snow tubing, sledding, mountain biking, hiking, river rafting, mountain coaster downhills, miniature golf, disc golf, traditional golf, zip lining, horseback riding, winery tours, shopping, or just simply relaxing on the balcony taking in the gorgeous views.
This unit is on the 10th floor in the prestigious Citadel wing overlooking the slopes. Take in the amazing views from your private balcony of Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, Sevin Devils, and Grandfather Mountain. Standing on the balcony to your left you can see Tennessee and the Appalachian Mountains in the distance, and to your right, Grandfather Mountain.
This unit has been renovated in 2020 with new hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, wood cabinets, granite countertops, leather furniture, and more.
Each room has its own Smart TV powered by Roku (65 inch in the living room, 48 inch in the master bedroom, and a 32 inch in the 2nd bedroom). An Xbox One with one controller is included. The Xbox is capable of playing Blu-ray and DVDs as well. We have also provided several boardgames, books, and DVDs for you to enjoy as well.
All bedding and linens will be provided. You may choose to bring your own pillow if you like. I know I often prefer the comfort of what I'm accustomed to rather than trying to adjust to a new pillow that may leave me with a stiff neck the next morning.
The master bedroom offers a King Size bed with an attached bathroom (en suite). The bed is topped with a 3-inch memory foam mattress for added comfort.
The second bedroom has two twin beds with a second bathroom just outside the door. Each bed is also topped with a 3-inch memory foam mattress for added comfort.
The resort offers 24-hour security as well as a heated pool (6ft deep), 2 whirlpool/jacuzzi tubs, steam room, sauna, and a complete gym/fitness center.
There is elevator access to all units in this building.
Coin Laundry is provided on all odd numbered floors.
Please note: Sugar Top condos are not air conditioned. Being at 5200 feet in elevation, the average temperatures are usually around 20 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than sea level. The average summer temperature on the hottest days is around 76 degrees with nighttime temps dropping into the upper 50s. The bedrooms have ceiling fans and the windows and sliding door may be opened to allow airflow.
Sugar Mountain is tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwest North Carolina. A hidden village with thousands of visitors each year that head to this town to enjoy skiing, mountain biking, hiking, tubing, snowshoeing, shopping, dining, the Land of Oz, holiday activities and more.
In the winter months, it is strongly advised that you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle. This resort is at 5200 feet in elevation, and often sees several inches of snow.
Guests will be asked to park in the parking lot directly adjacent the guard station. A 24-hour shuttle will be provided to take you to and from the entrance.
Traveling From Boone North Carolina:
Take 105 South towards Grandfather Mountain. 105 South will begin a steep climb up a 3-lane highway. After topping this, in about 10 minutes you will arrive at a traffic light, on your left is a McDonald’s, turn right at this light onto N.C. 184 North. Go approximately 5 minutes or up a gradual grade of highway, on your left will be an intersection, named Grouse Moor, a small visitors center is located at this intersection as well.
Take this left onto Grouse Moor, take the next immediate left onto Sugar Top Drive, this will traverse up the mountain until you arrive at our gate house that will be at the end of Sugar Top Drive. Turn right into this parking lot, follow arrows around to our gate house where our security will register your vehicle and direct you to parking.
From Interstate 40 Asheville region:
Set GPS to Linville, N.C. Follow Highway 221 S. The Linville N.C. United States Post Office will be on your left before you see a traffic light. Turn left at light on to Hwy 105 N. Stay on this road until you come to next traffic light for 184 N. Turn left at this light onto 184 N. Go approximately 5 minutes or up a gradual grade of highway, on your left will be an intersection, named Grouse Moor, a small visitors center is located at this intersection as well.
Take this left onto Grouse Moor, take the next immediate left onto Sugar Top Drive, this will traverse up the mountain until you arrive at our gate house that will be at the end of Sugar Top Drive. Turn right into this parking lot, follow arrows around to our gate house where our security will register your vehicle and direct you to parking.
From Tennessee:
Set your GPS to Banner Elk, N.C. 28604. Hwy 194 N will be the road into the Town of Banner Elk. Lees McRae College will be on your right as you enter Banner Elk. Approximately 200 yards after Lees McRae will be a traffic light. Turn right at this light onto N.C. 184 N, an Exxon station is on the corner at light. Continue on past Lowes Home Improvement on your right. Approximately 100 yards will be a caution light, Sugar Mountain Ski Resort is on your right at caution light if you would want to ski before your destination of Sugar Top Resort.
To arrive at this location, continue past caution light on N.C. 184 N, up a small hill the Food Lion shopping center and Subway sandwich shop will be on your left. At the top of the hill on your right is the Grouse Moor intersection, beside it is a small visitors center, turn right on Grouse Moor, take the next immediate left onto Sugar Top Drive, this will traverse up the mountain until you arrive at our gate house that will be at the end of Sugar Top Drive. Turn right into this parking lot, follow arrows around to our gate house where our security will register your vehicle and direct you to parking.
