Wonderful Location; Apartment Needs Some Work
I will start with the big positive: The apartment is in a wonderful location, in the heart of the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, a short walk from the Western Wall and anything else you might want to visit in the Old City. On the other hand, there were some significant negatives:
1. The only way you can get hot water is to turn on a heater a half hour in advance.
2. When we checked in, the air conditioner was not working. It took several days for the landlord to get it repaired.
3. The humidity was an issue. You cannot leave the air conditioner on or the windows open when you are gone, and every day we were surprised by how humid the apartment got while we were out. When we got home after our vacation, all of our clothes, even the ones we had never worn or washed, seemed a tiny bit damp and clammy.
4. Because there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom, and there is an open drain, odor was a problem.
5. The apartment has been subject to significant wear and tear that either occurred after the pictures on the VRBO website were taken or is not apparent in those pictures.
6. The downside of the great location is that there is a fair amount of noise.
7. There may be an issue with one of the electrical sockets. When unplugging something from the socket, my son was shocked so badly he was knocked down. One small appliance, plugged into the socket via a two-pronged Type C adapter appropriate for any Israeli socket installed since 1989, blew out. My son also had issues with his phone that may be attributable to the outlet and/or the humidity.
8. The apartment was not ready for our arrival. There were towels and sheets in the washer and the dryer, as well as a big hamper full of dirty towels and sheets.
9. Cleaning materials, extra beds, and other items were stored in the apartment, making it much less spacious than it appears in the pictures on the VRBO site.
Finally, I recommend that you not schedule your check-in for Shabbat, as the landlord will not be available to address any issues that may arise your first day.
