About this property

Beautiful, Sunny, 1 Bd, Apt in Ctr. w. Lift & Fireplace long term avail.

This spacious apt is 80m2(850 sq ft) and is on the fourth floor (WITH LIFT) of a well kept building with wonderful views. The view in the living room is of the Wester Church, and the Keizersgracht Canal, and the bedroom looks out at trees and gardens. The large living room has two couches,(one is comfortable enough for sleeping) It is very sunny and bright. There is also a new wood burning fireplace., and a television. The bedroom has a queen size bed, flat screen TV, DVD player, free Wi-Fi, desk, and laptop computer, printer/copier, scanner. There is a large closet, and a chest of drawers. It is a spacious room. The rooms are separated by a large corridor. Both bedroom, and living room have doors so there is lots of privacy. There is a bathroom with bathtub, and shower, and a separate toilet. We have a washing machine, and dryer. Wooden floors throughout the apt. The apt was totally renovated when we bought it.

The neighborhood is wonderfully convenient. We are in the City Center (Jordaan) with two tram lines in front of the building. There are cafes and restaurants on the street, as well as a supermarket right next door,. It is an easy trip to Central Station.(3 tram stops) The neighborhood (The Jordaan) has many unique, boutique type shops as well as neighborhood stores. It is a very convenient area in the heart of the historic district. We are two blocks from the Anne Frank House, three blocks to the Dam, and it is a 15 or 20 minute walk to the Museum area. Vondel Park is a ten minute tram ride, The wonderful Noordemarket(organic foods on Sat., and antiques on Monday) is five blocks away, and De Hallen is a 20 minute walk or a 4 stop tram ride. There are several bicycle rental shops within a block.

Wonderful apartment

It is a beautiful and comfortable apartment. It’s having an elevator is especially helpful as it is on the 4th floor with unobstructed views of Westerkerk church and the canal. It is well located and convenient to transportation. This was a very positive experience for us.

Well equipped in the perfect location.

We loved this property. The views were amazing, and having the tram AND a food market right downstairs was incredibly convenient for my 6-week stay. But just off the main street (Westermarkt) are charming canal-side strolls, shopping, etc., as well as Anne Frankhuis. Between the 24-hr bells from the Westerkerk and the two trams downstairs, it wasn't quiet. But the convenience more than made up for this AND the bedroom is in the quieter rear of the unit, overlooking quiet gardens. The unit was well equipped, modern and rather chic in laid-back Dutch modernism. Very roomy; two can spread out. The kitchen is small, modern and clever, and equipped with everything you could need until you get the the market downstairs Large dining table was great. Everything was very clean, and easily cleanable for a longer stay. Even the art, books and jazz collection were nicely curated. The only annoyance was that the lift was a bit wonky. But the managing agent sent me a video of how to easily fix it to run until repair got there. I found that the other building tenants were fixing it in the same way, and I felt like quite the local. We certainly plan to book again.

Great visit to Amsterdam

Had a great time as the flat is centrally located and the tram stop is outside our door. Having a lift was wonderful after walking the city for hours before returning home. Can’t wait to do it again.

Even Better

Scrolling down one can see our review from two years ago. Absolutely nothing has changed since then except for the fact time has passed. Both Joan and Sylvia were again an absolute delight to deal with. Joan is always prompt and exceedingly polite in her responses. Sylvia was again at the flat to greet us upon arrival (she has an app showing flight arrival times once you provide her with the flight number). She took a few minutes to reacquaint us with everything. A request was made we communicate by email rather than by telephone. I sent one question. She responded within minutes. After the second stay we are even more amazed at the convenience and attention to detail of EVERYTHING. Plenty of storage, every kitchen gadget you can think of, spaciousness, modern appliances, extra pillows and bed clothes. You just name it. On top of all this one of the most spectacular and convenient locations in central Amsterdam. We found a new “eethuis” (Broodje Mokum) less than 2 blocks away on the Rozengracht. It is my new favorite lunch place in Amsterdam. A couple doors further down in the beginning of the next block is my new favorite cheese store (Wegewijs Kaas & Delicatessen). I would like to think I know most of the large cheese shops in the city center but have never encountered personal service like this small family shop. They did a fabulous job of cutting and packaging cheese to bring back home. As much as we enjoyed our initial stay, I think we enjoyed our second one even more. Our only hope is that if we request to stay again we will be allowed to do so.

Beautiful, bright, spacious apartment in Jordaan

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful Amsterdam apartment. The apartment was spotlessly clean, quiet, very bright and spacious and comfortably decorated. The kitchen is very well stocked and the owners have thought of everything to make their quests welcome. Having an elevator was a real plus as was the washer and dryer. There is a magnificent view out the front windows onto the monumental 17th century Westerkerk church and over the treetops and canals. The Jordaan neighborhood is charming and beautiful with many restaurants to choose from. There is a handy supermarket about 10 meters from the front door of the building. There are 3 tram lines that stop right in front of the building making it ideal for transport throughout Amsterdam. This is a fantastic apartment and I recommend it without reservations!

Only Place to Stay

Had to write as I was just shocked to read the review from one negative person. My husband and I have stayed in this lovely apartment twice and one other time in Joan and Neil's other apartment. When we come to Holland we will not stay anywhere else but in either of their apartments. Always clean, well stocked and just plain comfortable. Have never been disappointed in this apartment. Joan is always their for you with any questions you might have and always with a fast reply. Sylvia and Veto also are the best. Sylvia goes out of her way to help with anything that might come up. Don't let the one negative review keep you away from this apartment or the other one. Like I said we will not come to Amsterdam unless we can stay in this apartment or the other one. But we really prefer this one since it has the fireplace and we always come in the winter. You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!

Something special

When my husband and I were planning our recent trip to Amsterdam, we chose to stay in an apartment and what an apartment this was. Its location to sites, trams & buses as well as to the Hop on Hop off canal boats was perfect. Our 2 week stay was made even more enjoyable by the size of the apartment and amenities provided especially the computer & printer and the Nespresso coffee machine. Loved the elevator! The area of the Jordan was full of small restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and grocery stores. We had a fabulous Indian restaurant just a few doors down and an Albert Heijn even closer. One of the best places we found on our wanderings was Winkels, a small cafe, whose name to fame is their unbelievably delicious Dutch Apple Pie. As the apartment was located between two prominent canals, navigating around the city was quite easy. We were able to walk everywhere and we did. Thank you Joan for answering all of my e-mails quickly and Sylvia for your cheerful greeting when my phone wouldn't work upon arrival. You both made our stay in Amsterdam so memorable.

Book this fantastic apartment and enjoy an amazing stay in the beautiful city of Amsterdam!

My wife and I took our first trip to Amsterdam and it was fantastic, made even better because we stayed here! My wife typically handles our vacation travel arrangements, but I decided to handle everything and live a local by booking an apartment instead of a hotel. My wife did insist that we rent from an owner and from someone who spoke English to minimize any miscommunications. I researched a few properties but chose this one due to the owner’s responsiveness. Joan was great; we had tons of questions, and she answered every email promptly. She was warm, professional and her answers were always thoughtful. Upon arriving, Sylvia and Vito welcomed us, oriented us to the apartment and graciously shared insights on the neighborhood, transportation, and the sights. They were patient and generous with their time. Before leaving, they insisted that we should not hesitate to contact them if we had any questions or needed any further assistance. The apartment exceeded our expectations. It was spotless, spacious and filled with many little touches that made it feel like home. The kitchen was well-designed and functional. After traveling over 11 hours, we were delighted to open the fridge and find a chilled bottle of wine. My wife was impressed. Usually, she drops her bag and heads to the bar to unwind. Instead, we kicked off our shoes and enjoyed a glass of wine while we relaxed on the couch. We took Sylvia and Vito’s suggestion and ordered take out from the Indian restaurant. It was just the first of many enjoyable evenings. The bedroom was great and comes outfitted with a television, computer, printer & Wi-Fi access. The bed was very comfortable and roomy. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank you for the instructions on how to use the Nespresso coffee machine and the coffee. Sipping coffee and watching the city come to life through large light filled windows was marvelous. A stellar location and a lively neighborhood make this apartment a perfect choice. We walked out of the front door and were just steps away from the tram, grocery store, cafes, numerous restaurants and the Anne Frank house. We didn't miss a hotel concierge because there’s a tourism/travel office and bike rental shop right downstairs. We walked all over the city, hoping on the tram, bike or canal boat, to explore the neighborhoods and to enjoy the people, cuisine, museums; and a few "coffee" shops. We began recommending this property before our trip was even over! Loved it!

Our favorite apartment in Amsterdam

My wife and I, along with our three-year old daughter, have stayed in this apartment three times. We absolutely love the apartment and it is the first place we try to book when we know we will be returning to Amsterdam. Over the years, we have rented many apartments in Amsterdam and this place is our favorite. The apartment is perfect for a stay in Amsterdam. It is bright, airy, open, and well appointed. It has everything you need: a full kitchen stocked with everything, a full sized refrigerator, a full bar (also stocked!) comfortable couches and chairs, cool artwork on the walls, a great view of the Westerkerk. Everything is spotless upon arrival. The floors are shiny, the kitchen, wc, bathroom, and bedroom are all meticulously clean. The refrigerator is not only spotless but there is often little things left to help make the first day easy (like coffee!). The bedroom has plenty of closet space, the bed itself is comfortable, the room is light and bright during the day and the curtains make it dark and quiet at night. There is a computer in the bedroom and wifi is available throughout the apartment. For us, it really is our home away from home. The location is perfect. It is directly across the street from the Westerkerk and the Anne Frank House. It is a five minute walk to Dam Square and not much longer to the Nine Streets area. Right in front of the apartment is three tram stops. From there you can get to anywhere in the city including Central Station. Just down the street from the apartment is an Albert Heijn market which makes it incredibly convenient to buy groceries. There are numerous shops, cafes, restaurants (including a terrific Indian restaurant) and a bike rental shop next door to the apartment. You couldn’t ask for a better location in Amsterdam. As a tourist, the location of the apartment is exactly where you want to be. Upon arrival, the manager Sylvia gives a full tour of the apartment, shows how to work the various appliances like the washing machine and dryer, and will answer any question about the apartment or Amsterdam. The last time we stayed here she even gave us her tram card after we mentioned we hadn’t picked one up yet. She also worked her schedule around our very early arrival time from our international flight so we could get into the apartment right away. In short, we cannot recommend this apartment more highly. It is the best place we’ve ever rented in Amsterdam and we have every intention of staying here again.

Randy and Robyn

We have visited Amsterdam 10 times over the last 10 years staying at Joan's apartments on 6 occasions most recently April 24-May 9 2015. We now only stay in either of her lovely apartments when visiting. Sylvia and Vito, the caretakers of the apartments, easily are the kindest people we have met in our travels throughout Europe and could not possibly be more helpful. Each vacation has been more memorable than the previous. Our recent trip allowed us to share Amsterdam with our son Alex over his birthday dining at De Kas. The Westermarkt apartment is truly a gem. Only the corner table at Latour D'Argent in Paris overlooking Notre Dame rivals the view of the Westerkerk cathedral from the front windows of our Amsterdam penthouse. Note, I refer to it as our apartment. I hope Joan will excuse this. The location is perfect for exploring all of Amsterdam and the apartment will truly meet everyone's needs. The elevator to the penthouse level is quite remarkable for Amsterdam. I would be remiss to not speak to the recent unconscionable review. I must admit that I was angry when I first read this negative rant, but sometimes one must take the higher ground and ignorant, unkind, unfounded comments should simply be dismissed. My wife Robyn and I cannot wait to visit our favorite city again and remain eternally grateful to Joan and Neil for sharing their beautiful apartments with us. With Kindest Regards, Randall R. MD

Absolutely Incredible

Could not have asked for a more stylish and convenient apartment to spend our Christmas and New Years at in Amsterdam. The property was perfect – it had absolutely everything we needed and was the perfect size for myself and my partner to spend two weeks at relaxing. I fell in love with the location – right across the street from Anne Frank’s house and just over a 5 minute walk to Dam Square, not to mention well within walking distance to other attractions such as the Foam Museum, Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. There is a supermarket next door which is extremely convenient. The building has a lift which was fantastic as the apartment is located on the 4th floor. We felt extremely safe as the building has a great security system in place. The apartment can be set at your preferred temperature which was fantastic for anyone who is travelling in the cooler months. The views from the lounge room were magnificent – from one side you look down onto Westermarkt where you can see the Westerkerk (church), the canals and surrounding houses which made it so beautiful to sit down in the evenings and spend time in the room. Joan and Sylvia are such beautiful people – from the minute I enquired about the apartment Joan has always been so kind and professional and Sylvia who met us on our arrival was fantastic. I could never stay anywhere else after experiencing Joan’s apartment. Certainly one of the best holidays that we have ever had and I look forward to staying there again in the future.

Enjoy the Views

A very enviable flat exceeding all our expectations. The flat has almost every amenity one can imagine for a city center location. I own my own business so it is essential I stay connected. The WiFi was superb for our laptop, tablet and cell phones. A computer and printer were available for our use (even though we didn’t use them). A washer/dryer always makes packing easier for a two week stay and this one didn’t disappoint. The kitchen, while not overly large, featured all appliances including an American sized refrigerator/freezer and a full sized dishwasher. It was extremely convenient and functional. My wife is Dutch and lived in Amsterdam several years. It was a pleasure having her sisters over to visit us in the flat. While the windows in the living area face west and you can’t see the actual sunrise, it is a light show seeing the sun’s reflection off the newer buildings on the harbor as it comes up. The trees on the Westermarkt were beautiful with their autumn colors. As darkness approached, it was spectacular looking at the lights straight down the Keizersgracht or to see them come on in the building block housing the headquarters of Amnesty International. All types of retail outlets you can imagine are within three blocks. So convenient to arrive for a longer stay and not have to worry about running all over to stock the flat. Upon arrival, all necessary staples as well as chocolates and a bottle of wine were already on hand. Some of Amsterdam’s best restaurants, cafes, and pubs are within easy walking distance as well as the great majority of attractions. The landlord, Joan, was easy to deal with from the beginning. She was prompt, courteous, and accommodating in every regard. The property manager, Sylvia, was beyond professional and was not the least bit upset when our plane was diverted to Maastricht for refueling before arrival. It was truly a pleasure staying in this property.

Home away from home

I recommend this apartment highly. I've rented vacation apartments in the Netherlands as well as countries both in Europe and South America. This apartment was, by far, one of the best I've had in over 20 years of traveling. Staying there was literally was like being at home. It was large, we'll appointed, fully stocked, ideally located, and incredibly clean. Moreover, the manager, Silvia, was both pleasant and accommodating, as was the owner, Joan, whom I initially worked with. Never were there any problems, and I definitely will rent it again the next time I'm in the Netherlands.

Second Time Around

This was our second stay in this wonderful apartment. Can not ask for anything better, location, lift, fireplace and being spotless clean. Such a comfortable apartment to stay in. Sylvia, the lady that will meet you is amazing. The owner of the apartment also owns another apartment in Amsterdam and we had the opportunity to see it. We know if this apartment is not available we will rent the other if available as that is charming as well. We will never stay in Amsterdam unless we can stay in this apartment. Thank you Joan!

Another wonderful stay!

This was the 2nd time we stayed at this apartment. I can't say enough good things about the place. It's clean, comfortable, spacious, it has amenities that we normally take for granted but are rare in Amsterdam rentals such as a dishwasher, washer, dryer, & an elevator. it is centrally located in a lovely area known as the Jordaan. It's a great apartment, you will not be disappointed. Thanks again Joan for another wonderful stay!

Perfect apartment in the best area

This is probably one of the best apartments I have stayed in within Europe. There is a tram stop right outside the frontdoor, but you are also within walking distance for any attraction someone would want to visit. The apartment is above the sorrounding buildings so there is a great view of the sorrounding area. There are markets, cafes and information/tour shop on the same street. The property managers were very helpful to me. I would encourage anyone to stay here. The next time I am in Holland I would not bother searching for another place to stay.

New home away from home

I was born in Amsterdam, and my husband and I go every 2-3 years. We usually stay with family but this time around we decided to rent an apt., as we were planning on staying in Amsterdam for 3 weeks. I had contacted a few rental properties, but for some reason I had a good feeling about this apt. and the owner Joan was always so fast with replying to a question I had regarding the apt. Great, great customer service. The apt. was wonderful. Clean, very comfortable, and talking about location, it could not of been better, as I know Amsterdam. From all the times we have been in Amsterdam I would have to say this was the best because of this wonderful apt., and coresponding with Joan. Sylvia and Veto who gave us the keys and showed us around the apt. are also wonderful and very helpful. We will be back and will definitely be renting this apt. again. Like I said, this apt. is our new home away from home. Thank you Joan, you have a gem of an apt.

Location is number 1

Over the last ten years we have rented all over the world through VRBO and this is our seventh visit to Amsterdam. This apartment is the closest to being home that we have experienced. The owners were very responsive and Sylvia and Vito the local contacts are jewels. Thanks Our next trip to Amsterdam will be only when this apartment is available. This apartment and its location will be memories we will never forget. The month spent here was our best vacation ever. lt/jw Alexandria, Virginia

Location, location, location!

The location could not have been any better. Being in the Jordaan made it so convenient for us to walk or take the tram anywhere in the city. From the living room window you can view The Westerkerk church (where Rembrandt is buried) & the Keisergracht canal. The apartment has everything you need plus the building has an elevator, which a lot of canal homes do not have, so you don't have any stairs to climb with luggage or groceries. We stayed for 5 weeks & loved every minute. I would not hesitate to stay there again. Thank you Joan for your help while I was planning our trip & to your friend Sylvia who met us in Amsterdam.

My husband and I bought the apt in 2007 after going to Amsterdam for about 10 years.. We used to exchange apts (we live in NYC) with a good friend who lives in Amsterdam. After years of loving the city we decided to buy something. We now go to Amsterdam two or three times a year for about two months each visit, and rent it when we are not there. We have very good friends who take care of the apt. They are wonderfully helpful to any renter, and lovely people. They will meet you with the keys when you arrive, and explain anything you need to know about the apt or the city. They live a few blocks away should there be any problems. They renovated the apartment when we bought it, and so they know it well.

Why they chose this property

I love the central location, and the convenience of being right in the middle, yet being in the historic district. My husband thought he might like a quieter street, but has come to love the convenient location where we can step out, get on a tram and go just about anywhere.Having a supermarket(Albert Heijn) just next door, and having an elevator is very nice.

What makes this property unique

The apt is really very comfortable with many amenities. We have a Nespresso Coffee Machine, regular coffee machine, and french press. Most of the dishes, linens, pots and pans are new,(they're replaced often) as well as most of the furniture. There is a nice selection of books, CDs, and DVDs.The apt. has a new laptop computer and printer., good WiFi. The views are wonderful, and the apt is really comfortable. Please e-mail if you would like more information.

Just to say we bought, and completely renovated another apt. early in 2013. If this apt is rented, and you would like to look at pictures of our second apt, it is VRBO #465010. Thank you.
