About this property
Amelia by the Sea in Key West
This superbly designed three-bedroom, two-bath conch house named "Amelia By the Sea" is located, as the name suggests, near sandy beaches and the wildly beautiful Atlantic Ocean. It's part of Bahama Village, a 16-block historic subsection of Old Town Key West that hosts some of the island's most popular restaurants, shops, pubs, tourist attractions, and art galleries. It has a lovely private pool and deck. The aura is one of pure relaxation.
The two-story building is set back from the quaint street and painted minty green with bottle-green and white accents. The setback allows for convenient off-street car, bike, or golf-cart parking. Two large palms and some smaller ones add a tropical vibe. Five wooden steps lead onto the front porch. The front door opens to a bright view going all the way through the sunlit home to French doors that open to a gorgeous deck and pool. Inside, the stairway to the second floor is on the right, and the first of three bedrooms is on the left. The bedroom is amply lit by three windows, an overhead ceiling fan with light, and two bedside lamps flanking the queen bed. A white chest of drawers provides plenty of space to store travel clothing and essentials. On one wall, a flatscreen hangs in a perfect position for watching TV or movies from the comfort of the luxurious bed. This is a totally charming room. Conveniently, the next door down leads into a full bath. From here the hallway leads into the great room but not before an art plaque on the wall proclaims "Paradise Ain't Cheap," proving the adage that something a little unexpected adds interest to any dcor. Next, a gourmet kitchen that is ever so easy to appreciate provides all the expected top-of-the-line appliances and a granite counter workspace. The stand-alone center counter is uniquely designed to be not only a generous food-prep space but also the perfect dining table with six classic wood chairs on one side and abundant storage cabinets on the other. Not hungry? Sit here to play a game of cards or a board game with the family. Over the sink area, a three-panel window admits copious ambient illumination complemented by ceiling fans with lights. The view from the kitchen is of the outside pergola, the sparkling temperature-controlled pool, tropical landscaping, a privacy fence, and art objects that add splashes of color. If you'd like to enjoy a cup of coffee or evening beverage outside, the handsome deck provides for that nicely with chairs and flip down table. Here also is a gas BBQ for easy grilling. Next to the kitchen, the living area shares the same spectacular view of the pool and deck. With couch and chairs, it provides the perfect place for conversation, quiet contemplation, or even a nap while a ceiling fan gently moves air with a certain romantic elegance. Of course, there's high-speed internet, 2 zone central air, and a smart TV.A lovely hardwood staircase leads to the second floor, which has two master suites/king bedrooms and a full bath. The first Master bedroom is to the right. This room, as with the whole second floor, continues the delightful pattern of ceiling fans with lights, plenty of windows, comfy and functional furniture, ample storage space, and smart TV. Yes, Key West is a destination town because of the weather and everything there is to do. But the baseline of any great vacation is great accommodations with sleep-worthy beds. There's no question that this place easily fills that bill. Conveniently located between the upstairs bedrooms is a full bath with granite counters, storage cupboards, and fluffy area rugs over stone tile flooring. Cupboards and a medicine chest stand ready to hold toilet articles and suntan lotion. The second Master Bedroom with another king bed rounds out the second floor. This room has a view of the street via a wall of windows. Another wall holds mostly closets with louvered doors. An area rug over hardwood floors cushions the walking-around area while the king bed invites you to relax into a sea of pillows. The smart TV is again located for easy viewing. Avid gamers can use the sitting area of this room to enjoy the X-Box and controller that is provided. (Be sure to bring some games or rent some at the Red Box at Publix.) Nearby a dresser with mirror stores foldable items so everything can be put away out of sight. When it's time to explore the neighborhood, there's plenty to see, eat, and experience right nearby, not to mention the whole rest of the island. You might start at the iconic Southernmost Buoy for a selfie and then visit the Butterfly Conservatory's indoor garden, educational center, and delightful gift shop. Perhaps stop at the Southernmost Caf right on South Beach for lunch or just go wading in the shallow water beyond the warm sand. But don't be in a rush to pick places to eat because the choices here are seemingly endless. Within a few blocks of you is the world-famous Blue Heaven, Blue Macaw, and Moon Dog right next door to the Hemingway House. And you're not even on Duval Street yet. Duval is where you'll find shopping of all sorts, art galleries, tours, open-air restaurants, bars, and all the fun you came to Key West to enjoy. At the Gulf of Mexico end, you'll find the Historic Seaport with tall ships offering sunset sails, more water sport opportunities than you could possibly take advantage of, and waterfront restaurants of varying degrees of informality. Set your alarm so you don't miss the nightly sunset celebration at Mallory Square, where visitors and locals alike gather to applaud as the sun slips below the horizon. This home is Pet (Dog) Friendly**(please see below or our FAQ page for rules and restrictions) This homeowner has exterior surveillance equipment. Historic Hideaways is not in the care, custody or control of their placement, use or what they record. If this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook from Books & Books on Eaton Street or a stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center on Greene Street will help make sure you don't miss anything.
