About this property

Historic 1810 Captain Burrows Home~ A Nautical New England Inspiration!

Ay Ay, captain! Stay in an antique home with an authentic seafaring history!

Captain Burrows was a descendant of one of Mystic’s founding families. He set sail on his maritime adventures as a cabin boy on a whaling voyage, after which he forged a distinguished career as an officer, working on the steamships that ferried passengers from Liverpool, England, to New York and Galveston.

Capt. Burrows' home dates back to circa 1810 and is brimming with nautical character and New England charm. Just imagine the captain bringing goods back from his ship to this very house, sneaking them in through the cellar door to sell to the shipyards that once sat in Mystic Seaport!

Just a 10-min walk to downtown Mystic and with delightful water views of Tuft’s Cove, Captain Burrows Home is perfect for family and friend gatherings, sleeping 6-7 guests in 3 super comfortable bedrooms!

Sun-filled rooms, wide board floors, and original features set the scene in this well-appointed vacation home. There are plenty of restaurants close to home, but when you choose to stay in for a meal, the galley kitchen has everything you'll need to whip up something delicious!

Gather around the captain’s table in our intimate dining room, with an antique dining table comfortably seating all your guests. Please use the antique dishes! :-)

After a full day exploring Mystic, you’ll appreciate our three deliciously comfortable bedrooms. One bedroom plus a pull-out twin sleeper and a daybed on the first floor is ideal for guests who have difficulty with stairs or parents sharing with toddlers.

All bedrooms feature comfy mattresses, fresh pillows, beautiful linens, alarm clocks, USB charger ports on each bedside, plenty of soft fluffy towels, and complimentary toiletries so you can pack lighter.

Very pleasant experience

Our family of 4 adults enjoyed our three night stay over Thanksgiving. The location was perfect, a 10 minute walk into town, including the well-known bakery Sift, and a peaceful view of the water. The 1810 house was in nice condition and contained interesting folk art items that fit well with its history and seaside location. Everything we needed was provided.

Absolutely wonderful

We had the best weekend at this home! The maritime/Americana motif and endearing details of this house were so sweetly done and you kept finding new little things to look at all the time. It was immaculate and was stocked with everything you’d need. The host was VERY accommodating and very attentive to our questions/needs and made sure our stay was nothing but a 5 star experience. It was located close to town/shops and restaurants, as well. I can’t say enough about how cute this house was…. If you’re on the fence-JUST BOOK IT, You won’t be sorry!

Trip into the past

The Burrow's home is a time machine into historic New England history. Every nuance in the home was beautifully and accurately represented by artifacts from the past. This property, and it's accommodations, were exceptional by every standard and the host's attention to detail were without question among the best we've experienced. Thank you Debbie and Paul for providing us with with your attention, your concern (we were facing an unexpected hurricane at our home in Florida at the time) and a wonderful experience. Highly recommended!

Great stay in historical home

My family (wife and two adult daughters) stayed at the Captain Burrows house. The home was stocked with all the utensils we needed for our three day weekend. We could see the boats in the harbor right out the front window. The host had excellent communication before and during the stay. It is a very short walk into downtown Mystic with plenty of shopping and restaurants. We enjoyed the firepit one night. Highly recommended!

Our family was in Mystic for a wedding and absolutely loved our stay at the Captain Burrows home. The location was great - super easy to get in and around Mystic. The home was clean, the kitchen well-stocked, and the seaside Americana decor made the home comfortable and cozy. We would 100% rent this home again or any property that Debbie & her husband manage. Everything We Were Looking For

We absolutely loved our stay in Mystic at the Captain Burrows house. There were so many little touches to make us feel welcome throughout our stay. The house and grounds are absolutely beautifully decorated. The nautical theme fits in perfectly with the history of the house and the town. There were three of us traveling together and we each got our own rooms, which was important to us. The beds were very comfortable. The lady who slept downstairs said the bed made squeaks whenever she moved, but it didn't bother her very much. We could not hear any of the squeaks from upstairs. The house is sparkling clean, there is a washer/dryer if you choose to do laundry, the kitchen is loaded with anything you would need if you choose to cook during your stay. We were quite impressed with the variety of K-cups and tea. And cream in the fridge! We loved sitting outside in their comfortable lawn furniture, which was also in the shade, so that was nice! We also appreciated the binder of information that we read through. It was very clear. Also, there were phone numbers and information on the refrigerator, which was helpful. We would definitely stay there again! Debbie (and Paul, too) are top-notch hosts.

New favorite place to vacation!

We fell in love with Mystic and are already planning on our trip back to the area! And we LOVED our cute coastal cottage! Deborah was so attentive and we were floored by the way our rental house was presented. It was clean and very comfortable. The historical, nautical feel was so fun for our family spring break getaway. There were comfortable beds for all 6 of us. When we arrived we found a fresh apple pie for us, a fresh daffodil centerpiece, and chocolates by all our beds. The house had everything we needed. Immersive New England Experience

From the moment we drove up to this home, the nostalgia was palpable. We entered it like we were diving into a well loved novel. The history, charm, antiques and detail were like an immersive experience. It was truly a piece of art. The photos (which are beautiful) couldn’t capture the magic; which is atypical as photos are usually better. We felt like we were walking into a boutique hotel while also feeling completely at home. It is steeped in history and charm. You can feel the love that Debbie has put into every corner of the property. This was such a special time to spend with my husband and young children. We made memories that will last a lifetime. I hope to return one day as it was just that perfect. The Captain Burrows home was THE highlight of our trip. Mystic and it’s many offerings were a bonus. On a more practical note, you’ll have everything you need. Extra linens, blankets, paper goods, toiletries, local menus and pamphlets, a stocked kitchen/dining space, apple pie upon arrival and half and half in the fridge. I can’t think of one more thing that would have made our stay more comfortable/easier.

About the host

Hosted by Debbie and Paul Bied

Host profile image
A once devoted full-time mother, I’ve now embarked on a fresh voyage – opening the doors of our storied properties to kindred spirits from near and distant shores.

Our shared passion is uncovering historic gems, whether preserving the essence of our own vacation homes or seeking solace in other historic havens during our travels.

Our hearts are firmly anchored in the past, and we enjoy bringing guests along with us when they stay at one of our Mystic homes.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I have always loved adorable and how it sits up on the little hill looking out at Tuft's Cove! Owning this has been a dream come true! Some may wonder why we bought another home in our hometown. I guess it's a testament to how much we love the area!

Located in West Mystic, just a 10-minute walk from downtown Mystic, where you'll find shops and plenty of outstanding restaurants, it offers the best of both worlds~ centrally close to everything but far enough away from the bustle. It's only a 3-mile drive to Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Aquarium, and Old Mistick Village. If you prefer to relax at home for the day, we believe you will be pretty happy just hanging out reading, cooking, or watching a movie in this cheerful home!

What makes this property unique

Step into the enchanting heart of New England hospitality, where each room holds tales anchored in the 1800s. Journey through stories of ship smiths, coopers, whispering woodcarvers, meticulous riggers, and the daring adventures of sailors and whalers.

Our Mystic vacation homes artfully bridge time, weaving historical tales into present-day experiences so you can treat yourself to some old-fashioned hospitality reminiscent of a homemade apple pie’s comforting warmth and sweetness.

When my husband and I first walked into this antique gem, we felt instantly taken by its charm and character, and we think you will, too!

Time away is a rare gem, and our mission is to ensure your Mystic vacation is as perfect as possible. Think nostalgic charm combined with modern amenities for 21st-century comfort and a splash of pure, homegrown hospitality to make your stay the most relaxing it can be!
