My name is William Sheridan III (Kip), and I grew up in Stockbridge.
My Great-great Grandfather built #38, the home you're enquiring about and #40 next door for his two daughters Lulu and Clara.
My wife Eva and I purchased #40 in 2000 from my second cousin Dorothy who was Lulu's daughter and 60 years my senior and told me when I inquired about the potential sale "you must buy it or it will go out of the family for the first time ever."
Dorothy made it a bit easier for us first time homebuyers by dodging slightly higher bids and her longing for our stewardship of the property for hopefully years to come.
Eva and I have currently lived here for 24 years raising our two daughters Kitty and Claire.
#38 went out of the family when Clara moved across the river in the 50's to Glendale to raise their family with my Great Grandfather Bill.
Eva and I were fortunate enough to be able to purchase #38 back in 2021 from our dear friends and neighbors. Though both homes have gone through additions, upgrades and major improvements throughout the years they still both feel like home and remain one of a handful of houses on Church St. still lived in by the original families who built them.

Why they chose this property

The above answer sums up a lot of it, but there is also a great deal to be said about our kindly neighbors and the sense of community and safety we feel here on Church Street. Couple that with the great view out the back door of Naumkeag's pastures and grazing sheep, the tranquility we feel and the fact that the girls could always walk town and be known by name, but at the same time be carefully looked after sealed the deal. The inevitable winter storms tradition of dragging the girls up to the Red Lion via sled for hot chocolate and a toddy are indelible memories of the uniqueness of Church Street. We feel very fortunate to call Stockbridge our home.

What makes this property unique

I think our central location to all things Berkshire is pivotal. Also the well conceived open plan of the house with seperate powder room and easily accessible master bedroom suite with full bath on the first floor, and 2 more private rooms with full shared bath on the second make it an ideal home for communal space and privacy as well. The two terraces are also inviting. One with Weber grill and seating area for entertaining and the small side terrace for an intimate breakfast.
There are chaise lounges and other outside furniture on the lawn with views of rolling meadows. We also provide fresh flowers throughout the house June through mid-October upon arrival, or weekly deliveries if you plan to stay on for longer.
