Rest

We came to the area looking to rest and immerse ourselves in nature, and this cabin provided the perfect opportunity to do so! We loved having our coffee on the covered porch every morning, and we had many different deer, birds, and squirrels come and visit us! One deer even laid down to rest right in the front yard! The cabin was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy the nature around and the surrounding area. The host, Glen, was highly responsive and very easy to communicate with. Thank you, Glen & family, for taking such good care of us!

Great vacation getaway

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was exactly as described, and Glen was a great host! The communication, check-in, and check-out process was excellent! We brought our dogs, and they loved the cool air and playing in the leaves! The enclosed fire pit area was fantastic for the dogs to be outside with us to enjoy the cool evenings by the fire. We would highly recommend staying here.

Forest Hideaway

Especially for city-dwellers like us, this cabin has everything. When we arrived, our dog ran straight down the steps to the fenced-in yard. When we followed her, we found a brown-and-gold turtle sitting by one of the chairs. At first I thought it was a lawn ornament! It was real, and later, my spouse moved it outside of the fence, since it seemed to want that. The trees are beautiful, and we walked down the driveway and road (you must be able to walk down and up an incline to do so) about a quarter of a mile to see Fightingtown Creek up close. The next day, we parked by the creek and walked over to the trailhead (you must have good knees to get up the trailhead). It was so beautiful up on the mountain. We also went into town, to a brewery on the river. Mostly, we enjoyed cooking comfort food and relaxing on the cabin porch. A perfect vacation!

Relaxing retreat

Glen was very responsive when I’d forgotten the lockbox code, and had blown the leaves off the driveway and sitting/ fire pit area in advance of my arrival. The cabin was very clean inside and out, and fairly private and set away from *neighboring cabins (there was still @ 50% foliage, and I could scarcely see the other cabins sharing this holler). The furnishings were nice and in good repair. The roads to the cabin and driveway was easily accessible by my SUV.

Hidden in the woods.

The cabin location is great, if you are looking to be hidden in the woods. Peaceful and quiet. The cabin is small and cute. Plenty of room for us. It was what we were looking for. The porch and yard are all fenced in, our dog had the time of his life running around and enjoying the freedom. It is a little drive if you want to go anywhere, but not bad. The only issue we had with the cabin was the television in the main room. It did not work. After reaching out to the owner and explaining that it did not work he was able to get a new one and was there in about an hour. Problem solved. Communications with the owner were easy and he was quick to respond. He was pleasant and cooperative.

NEVER stay at this location

We have stayed at this location before and had a great experience. Unfortunately, our second time was a complete 180. The property has been incredibly under kept and the A/c Bailey kicked on. The stay itself wasn’t the issue though, the issue was when a storm took out all of the power and wasn’t kicked back on for 10hours. As you can imagine no service, no lights, and a/c makes it very difficult to enjoy a weekend of relaxation. When letting the host know we were going to leave due to the issue we were met with Glen telling us what we should do on our vacation and that we “lacked imagination” on what we couldn’t been doing while the power was off. I don’t need to be told HOW to vacate I just pay you to use your property. If your property doesn’t live up to what your amenities say there is that is not my issue. Glen knows he got one over on a young couple that was just trying to enjoy themselves one relaxing weekend together and it’s sad to see he has absolutely no experience in hospitality or service. DO NOT stay at this location, it used to be great but has truly fell off completely and the owner is rude and unhelpful. If I could screenshot what he said to me you would be surprised and if you saw the policy you would be very confused of why we wouldn’t receive at least a partial refund. Have already contacted my lawyer to try and claim my deserved refund.

Perfect quiet weekend getaway

The cabin was exactly what I was looking for! I needed a quiet, peaceful weekend away and that’s exactly what I got! No cell service at the property is exactly what I needed! The bed was super comfy, I loved the sheets and the kitchen was well stocked. Neighbors are in the area but all was quiet and peaceful. The fire pit yard area and porch were fantastic for morning coffee and evening wine and just enjoying the multitude of colors in the leaves. My dogs were in love with the weather and the outdoors and the separate downstairs game area was perfect when they needed to be separated for a break from each other. Couldn’t ask for more!! Can’t wait to come back!

About the host

Hosted by Glen Hiller

Host profile image
My wife and I have twin daughters and really wanted a place of our own. We have been traveling to North Georgia since 2009. Often we found ourselves wishing we could travel over more than 2 times per year. We are both professionals and enjoy getting away and the peace and quiet of the mountain fresh air, hiking, rivers and creeks. Spending time in the woods, listening to the birds, hiking, wading creeks and streams with our girls really helps us reset our minds and bodies!

Why they chose this property

After years of searching we just fell in love with this property. The double deck and being 25+ feet up in the trees while you drink your morning coffee and listen the the wildlife instead of cars and trucks is a great start to the day. Evenings spent around the fire with the lit up fully fenced side yard making smores and enjoying a bottle of wine is just a great way to step it down before bedtime. We love how close we are to Bearclaw Winery and their gorgeous property and great wines. We also are really in love with the fact its 16 minutes to Downtown Blue Ridge and 20 mins to downtown Ellijay and we get to enjoy both towns dining and shopping!

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is .5 Miles form the Benton MacKaye Hiking Trail if your into hiking! Great trail.
we are 1.5 miles from the beginning of the Fightingtown Creek Off road trails if you are jeep or off-road enthusiast!
