Family Trip

Barra is a treasure. Casa Paz was perfect for us. We had all that we needed and more. The house and facilities are expertly and graciously run by Tito and Carmen. Naomi is a very helpful host. She made herself available and provided us with information about the house, sights and activities prior to us arriving. This is much appreciated. Thanks to all for a wonderful stay.

All time perfect vacation

We just returned from the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation experience in all of our travels. We have been traveling to various Mexico destinations for the last 20 years and decided on the Zihuatanejo area for this year. Our first week was spent in Zihua and for our second week everyone decided on venturing outside the town for a more adventurous experience. It could not have worked out any better. As soon as we arrived at Casa Paz and were greeted by Tito and Carmen we knew we had found something special. From the gorgeous well stocked house to the beautiful pool and only a few steps from the incredible beach it was the complete package. Days were spent walking the beach where most times we were the only people. The location is ideal being only 15 minutes from the airport and a 2 minute walk into the local village for supplies. Naomi was very helpful and responsive in answering any questions about area activities, local restaurants, and detailed questions about Barra de Potosi and Casa Paz. It is indeed an oasis once discovered you do not want to leave. Suffice to say, all four of us cannot wait for our return to Casa Paz. Thank you to Naomi for making this adventure possible

Elegant home in perfect setting

We chose Barra de Potosi for a few reasons. Summer swells up the coast meant the waves would likely be too much for the three little ones in tow (aged 7 - 9.) So too, being near to Zihua and not actually in it seemed totally sufficient. As it turned out, the latter was an understatement. Zihuatanejo remains endearing in its own right but, compared to our oasis, we only visited once mainly to pat ourselves on the back regarding our (my!) brilliant decision to base our selves down the coast 20 minutes in Naomi's terrific house. The house itself was very well appointed, very spacious in design, well shaded where needed, and, at least for us, provided a constant and heavenly rotation of beach, pool, kitchen, hammock with book, cricket in the front area (well shaded and replete with cacti and other local flora), repeat... Tito was a wonder and worked out fishing and horse riding for us in seconds. We didn't use the lovely cleaner for anything more than cleaning but ... she did a great job. The restaurant on the beach about 45 seconds' walk to the left was also the perfect spot for a few lunches. Cheap, delicious, amusing, limited hawkers. It was also fun that the restaurant area to the left was such a hot spot for the locals on the weekends. No one in front of our house but an amusing array of people to the left enjoying the waves and toasty water. We are planning my wife's 50th back down there in a few years already!

AWESOME!!

My husband and I along with four friends ventured to Barra de Potosi for the first time this spring for our annual Mexico vacation. We chose to stay at Casa Paz where we were greeted with great kindness by the property caretakers, Tito and Carmen. It was a wonderful ten days! Case Paz is immaculately maintained. The house design offers privacy for three couples with separate bedrooms and bathrooms while also offering a great shared living space, both inside and out. The property owners, Naomi and Ali, have been excellent to deal with. Any question asked was answered promptly. Guest comfort and care is an obvious priority as demonstrated by all four, Tito, Carmen, Naomi and Ali. We look forward to another stay in the future. Thank you to our hosts!!

Paradise in Barra de Potosi

The reviews and the advertising for this house were spot on. What a beautiful place for a vacation. The house had all the amenities we needed, plenty of space, gorgeous views and great staff. We couldn't have asked for anything more, we'd recommend this place to anyone!

Relaxing at the aptly named Casa Paz

After a six hour drive to the beach, we were pleasantly surprised by the delights of Barra de Potosí and especially Casa Paz. Having visited the better known Troncones many times, it was great to discover a viable alternative destination at last. This is a beautifully appointed and spacious home with a very large master bedroom upstairs and two regular rooms on the ground floor, the perfect spot for two families to kick back and enjoy the quaint charms of this unspoiled fishing village. Located in an elevated position overlooking the beach (which curves away 8 kilometers north towards the airport), the compound offers a fabulous ocean view, enhanced by the rhythmic sound of the waves breaking below. The pool is ideal in terms of size and temperature and the gardens are very well kept, with plenty of exuberant palms, plants and bushes to admire throughout the extensive property. The housekeeping duo of Carmen and Tito were the nicest people you could meet and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food she prepared for us was mouth-watering and abundant, while Tito was more than helpful in arranging tours and buying provisions and fresh seafood as and when required. As for local attractions, the huge lagoon, with its lush mangroves, and the enramadas (rustic but delicious restaurants - try the pescadillas!!), are just five minutes away, and kayaks and pangas are readily available for guided tours and fishing trips. The interplay of opposing waves between the lagoon and the bay is quite hypnotic, and it was amazing to see so many people out fishing with rods, nets or lines. We saw catches of crab, shrimp, jurel and sierra, which reflects a thriving marine ecosystem, as a result of which the local bird population appears very well nourished, particularly the brown pelicans. The only (minor) gripe was that the power went out for several hours on two of the four nights, which left us a little uncomfortable, but that is down to the CFE. All in all we had a fantastic, laid back stay at Casa Paz and would recommend it without hesitation.

5 Stars in Barra de Potosi

Casa Paz was everything and more than we expected. As we walked through the front gates the colorful flowers and many palm trees along with the sounds of the waves gave the feeling of immediate relaxation. The house was well appointed and had all the comforts of home. The views of the beach were outstanding and the beach was soft sand with no rocks. We enjoyed wave boarding which were supplied by Casa Paz. Tito and Carmen were excellent caretakers. Anything we needed all we did was ask. Little to no English is spoken in the area and even though we speak very little Spanish we always seemed to have no problems communicating. Barra de Potosi is a very quiet village and the locals were all very friendly. Perfect location for quiet and relaxation.

Beautiful house in Barra de Potosi

Barra de Potosi is one of our favorite beaches in Mexico and Casa Paz is definitely the most beautiful beachfront house in Barra. The house is in perfect condition, an amazing view from the master bedroom, the pool is practically on the beach and steps away from the ocean. Don't miss lunch at Las Enramadas, kayaking in the lagoon and coconut ice cream from the beach vendors. This is the perfect place if you're looking for a quiet, relaxed, 100% mexican, top quality vacation. We have stayed at Casa Paz twice and hope to return soon.

Fabulous

We are four friends who like to vacation together. This year we had the good fortune of spending a splendiferous week at Casa Paz. The house is perfectly set up for a great holiday. The beds are comfortable , the rooms nicely appointed the kitchen has everything you need for preparing meals. The beach is rock free and the surf is moderated by a point of land, we were able to swim everyday in the sea. The pool is also fabulous for night time swims under the stars. Tito and Carmen are extremely helpful, knowledgeable about the area , they can arrange for fabulous fresh sea food, birdwatching trips to the lagoon or any other local attractions. They are a delight. Casa Paz is everything you can ask for in a holiday rental.

Christmas "Vacation"

Being from Alaska my family decided that it was time for a less then "White Christmas" and I have to admit I was looking forward to not having to shovel snow for a couple weeks. I had been to Baja many many times and love it but we wanted something a little warmer still and I was looking for some new fishing opportunities. From the moment we arrived everything was better then we were hoping for. The house and property was extremely clean the staff Tito and Carmen were very helpful and friendly. There were six of us my wife, number one son and wife son #2 at 17 years old and my daughter 24. They were all very happy for the newly upgraded Wifi. I was hoping for a little better fishing but thats why they call it fishing. I did manage to keep us stocked in fresh dorado for two weeks though. I would not recommend wasting your time going to Ixtapa but we did truly enjoy Zihuatanejo and Barra de Potosi. Prices were very reasonable everywhere and the street/beach food was great. I would suggest cashing/exchanging a couple hundred dollars to pesos it will make life easier since the exchange rate was different almost everywhere we went with dollars. Nice pool, very good sand on the beach and nice and protected from the offshore waves. The estuary was a lot of fun to kayak and full of life and a lot of action from locals everyday. The locals were having there holidays also so the beach did fill up every afternoon but it was great people watching from my hammock next to the pool under the palapa. Yes I would highly recommend this to anyone, safe and friendly. We loved it!

We went here for our honeymoon!

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we were in heaven! The pictures do not do this house and location justice. It's just beautiful. The beach is clean and quiet. On some days it felt like we had the beach to ourselves. The people are incredibly kind and we really enjoyed getting to know Tito and his family. We had Tito catch us fish and my husband cooked us a delicious meal. The food in the town is quite fresh. We felt guilty paying so little for such amazing food. You only have to walk about a minute to get to the restaurants. We instantly became friends with many of the restaurants managers and enjoyed talking to them as well. The house itself is clean and beautiful. Sunsets are the best! We loved this area so much, we looked into buying property. We were sad when we left. What an amazing honeymoon!

Breathtaking

What a place! The house, the pool, the grounds, the beach, the village and of course, Tito and Carmen...spectacular. My husband, daughter and I just nicely got back from a very relaxing and memorable vacation...filled our need for some family time with no alarm clocks and no schedules. Every day we enjoyed the view, the pool, the beach, reading in hammocks and breathtaking sunsets. We also had the most incredible experience releasing baby turtles (3 hours old!) on the beach. We enjoyed many delicious meals but our favourite was Solecito Hotel (easy walking distance along beach)...elegant yet casual ambience, delicious food, and Blanca, the owner, was a delight. Loved everything about this trip. We were fine not knowing any Spanish but we'd like to learn some before we go next time...so many wonderful people with great stories. Can't wait. Naomi and Ali - thank you for sharing your piece of paradise.

Excellent House, Excellent Location

My family and I stayed in this house for five days in February 2014. We had never been to Barra de Potosi or Zihuatenejo before. I can say with no reservations that this house is everything it claims to be and more. The house is well constructed and a great architectural feel. My family of four had all the space we wanted and more. All of the furnishings are in great condition and beds and sofas are very comfortable. The plumbing works great, and you can drink the water in the house. The pictures are accurate in displaying all of the amenities in the house so, I won't waste a lot of space describing them. Rather, here a some things to know that the pictures do not describe: You really cannot get a better location than this house. As shown in the pictures, the house is right on the beach. It is an easy 1 or 2 minute walk down the beach to the restaurants that are right on beach. It is also an easy 1 to 2 minute walk into the village of Barra de Potosi. The house is not too close or too far away. This house is very safe. The house shares a large compound with two other homes/owners. There are full time caretakers that live onsite and look after the place. There is a large wall that provides privacy and security from the street with a gate that is locked closed at night. While the beach was mostly empty (which was nice) we never once saw anyone that looked like they would even attempt to come up to the property from the beach. As a example of the security we felt, we never once closed the doors or windows once we arrived. We only closed the screen doors at night to keep the mosquitos out. If you knew my wife, you would know that means we felt secure. The only advice I would give to families with young kids renting this house is that the house is large and the master bedroom feels a little removed from the rooms downstairs. The first couple of nights there, my kids (ages 11 and 9) were a little concerned/scared about it, but after the first two nights they were fine with it and it was no longer an issue. The care takers are very nice and very helpful and willing to assist you in making plans or providing directions. They speak very limited English (as with most people in Barra) and it will definitely help if you know a little Spanish. However, there are tons of Americans and Canadians there that seem to get along just fine with very limited Spanish. Having the private pool was a great benefit. We will return.

Katy W., Where do you live?

Unique, beautiful, restful piece of property! Five star and more.

Casa Paz is SO easy. The locals are amazing. The neighbors are amazing. The caretakers are amazing. The house is stunning, the beds are lovely. The area is casual-we had a very small bag of simple clothing for 8 days and one pair of flip flops. We participated in a protected turtle release one night! Thirty-one little turtles, hatched just four hours earlier, released out of our hands, right in front of the house! We spend half the week in total peace, reading and relaxing. The other half we wandered into "town" a few blocks away and grazed at all the evening food opportunities, i.e. hot tortillas with today's catch wrapped inside, cooked over wood fire on the front porch of a family home (tip: there are plenty of options to eat after the beach restaurants close). We rode in pangas up the lagoon, bought fresh bread from the man on the bicycle calling out each morning, worked the salt mines! We fished. We fished some more. Carmen cooked our fish. Wow. We made fresh ceviche in the well-stocked kitchen when the neighbor shared his catch from his morning kayak adventure. We snorkeled (tip: very clean, good gear and great trips anywhere via boats with El Escondida, one of the last enmaradas on the beach, and if you can't speak Spanish, daughter Chelly has amazing English, two degrees, and the whole family is so wonderful), walked to town each afternoon for fresh fruit and vegetables, wandered the nearly empty beaches, attended a local Zoomba class, pushed Tito's wheelbarrow to town for more beer! Whoever stayed before us left enough coffee for the next morning; thank you, we paid it forward! We caught a ride in the farm trucks on the road up to the highway and then took the bus to Zih for money exchange (tip: use airport in US or Ixtapa and get your pesos ahead of time!) and to look around. Please consider keeping your spending/purchases in Potosi-there are plenty of cruise ship passengers spending theirs up in Zih and Ixtapa.

Hard to describe

This place is so wonderful that I really hate to write a review since I fear it will get booked up and it will be the last I see of it! But I have to be honest and say that spending time there is very, very close to paradise. The house is wonderful. It functions as a house on the beach like a miracle. Even when it's warm in the sun, an amazing cool breeze sweeps through the house. You are just steps from the surf. The surf is unusually gentle for the Pacific Coast. People actually swim laps across the bay. You may see 10 people on the beach in the course of a day and you can walk for miles on soft, golden sand. On top of all of this Barra de Potosí is a fascinating ecological area, all of which you can explore by boat with a great local guide. Ask for Rodrigo. We made trips to the fish market and feasted on wonderful meals prepared by ourselves or by the velador who can grill fish expertly over wood. And then there are the sunsets and nights with the sound of the surf crashing. Amazing

Glorious!

We've recently returned from two glorious weeks at Casa Paz. What a delight! The house is perfectly situated on a gorgeous beach within a five minute walk to the charming little village of Barra de Potosi. The bay is sufficiently protected that the swimming is wonderful! And while we didn't think we'd use the pool much, it was so inviting that we ended up making a ritual of moonlight swims! The house is very well equipped and perfectly designed for two or three couples, allowing each couple total privacy and an ocean view! Tito and Carmen (the caretakers) and their children are wonderful! Tito grew up in the village and knows where to get whatever one might need. Several times, he bought fish on our behalf and even barbequed it for us. It was delicious! And, one day, Carmen gave us a cooking lesson: fish tacos. Yum! We highly recommend taking a boat or kayak trip at dawn in the lagoon. The birdlife is extraordinary! (Again, Tito can arrange this.) All in all, we enjoyed a fabulous two weeks and can't wait to go back!

Perfect setting for luxury vacation

We were a family of three, my husband and I over 60 and a 40 something daughter. Her 3 college friends joined us for a total of 6 adults. The three bedrooms were a perfect fit for us. This home is beautiful and very clean. The grounds are spectacular to say the least and is in a very secure gated area. This home is next to another but not too close and a few other one bedroom units on the grounds. The pool is for this home only and the ocean on front of the house. I loved this home, the care takers the pool and the ocean. We needed nothing but our groceries, everything needed to cook full meals was there for our use. The village is very close by about 3 min. walk to two small grocery stores, police station, taxi stand and about 10 wonderful seafood restaurants. We are at 5 of them for dinner and the menus are all about the same just cooked a little different. Watching the children play in the ocean, the sunset perfect fresh fish or shrimp, what more do you need. We plan on returning again in the near future, this home is a gem and the owners very helpful in your planning.

Such an amazing and peaceful place!

We spent 2 weeks end of july-beginning of august and we had a great time. The house and the whole property is amazing and so is the location. Tito, Carmen and their kids were key to make us feel like home, entertain our kids and make the holidays a true success. If you are looking for a relaxing time with your family, this is the place. On our side, we will definitively come back!

A Week to Remember

We had the good fortune of celebrating a 70th birthday in January, at this beautiful beach house. The entire week was the most relaxing time I've had in years. The sound of the waves at night, the continual ocean breeze, walking on the beach, watching the sunset, and hanging around in hammocks really does the trick to unwind and lose all sense of time. So much beauty inside and outside this home keeps you continually awed by nature and the connection to the environment whether you are inside or outside the house. I have never seen a staircase as beautiful as this one in this home. The wood work throughout the entire house is stunning. I would go back to this home and this beach in a minute! And will highly recommend it to family and friends. The listing photos are accurate but cannot do this place justice because you just have to experience it to really understand the beauty.

Dreamy January Week

We spent a week in this house this month. It was paradise. The weather was phenomenal. The house is amazingly designed for beach life. An infinity edge pool connects one visually to the ocean which itself is just steps away. Barra is a tiny fishing village. No big hotels. This is NOT Cancun and we loved it. We sat for hours in the pavilion at one side of the pool watching the amazing diversity of birds flying, catching fish. We walked for hours along the virtually deserted beach. The house itself is wonderfully equipped, extremely comfortable, beautifully designed and conceived. The owners were a delight to work with. We highly recommend this beach house. We had an unforgettable time.
