Could not be happier with our stay. 4 days in a beautiful loft surrounded by nature. Comfortable bed, spacious and perfect amenities. The gas little stove heating the room in the loft added to the rooms romantic feel. It was beyond perfect. The host was so sweet and checked in on us upon arriving. We had everything we needed for a post holiday getaway!
We had a great time staying in this house. Cindy was super responsive and the house was clean, comfortable and cozy. We brought our German Shepherd and the property was great for him with the fenced area. We would definitely stay here again!
Want a great experience, great house and the best communicating owners? This checks all the boxes. Dad got drawn for the 23N early elk hunt. We didnt want to drag all our "stuff" up the hill. This put us right in the middle of the unit and we had plenty of room for family working the hunt. We will be booking again with the Martin family!!!
Nice property, a little hard to find the entrance to. But all of the wildlife we saw every day made up for any of the inconvenience.

Cindy kept you up to date all of the time!
Retreat is off the beaten path, but we’ll worth the drive.Woods Canyon Lake & Willow Springs are 15-25 minutes away—For all those who can’t live without Wi-Fi, it’s definitely hooked up-3 Adults & 2 kids stayed with x-box tagging along-Just Bring your meals to cook-EVERYTHING ELSE IS SUPPLIED 5**
Absolutely beautiful property inside and out!! My husband and I with our small furr baby came up for four nights over New Years holiday, the house is so inviting and cozy! The kitchen is well equipped with all the cooking/baking utensils and appliances you need to make amazing meals or sweet treats. Also, we were so excited to wake up to see deer daily grazing close to the house.. and even during our walks there were beautiful birds and funny squirrels to keep you entertained for hours! We will definitely be coming back! Thanks for the amazing experience Cindy and Dave!
We stayed here to get out of the hustle and bustle and have a couple days to disconnect for my husbands birthday with our 10 month old and pups. The property was so much more beautiful in person. We got there for perfect weather. If you are able to make it to this property in the snow…gorgeous!! For the holidays they had a tree all decorated and stockings above the fireplace. We had the whole 7 acres to ourselves, the other rental was vacant! So we got to play in the snow and walk the property! Cindy was more than helpful when a couple small issues arose, and we got it figured out right away! Awesome wood burning fireplace. The rental had everything you needed plus more! Cute s’mores basket when we arrived. Plenty of linens, dishes, etc. They have a rental right next to the main house, would be perfect to rent out both for a friends or family trip.
It is off the beaten path, you take a maintained dirt road for a few miles so make sure you have a car that can handle that. We brought our truck and snow chains. Didn’t end up needing chains because the snow melted enough. 10/10 would stay again! Thank you Martin family!
My family just spent the most wonderful Christmas at this beautiful property. Cindy was an absolute dream to communicate with & did not miss a beat providing us with everything we needed to know prior to arriving. When we arrived, a beautiful lit up Christmas tree had been set up for us. The pictures are amazing, but do not do the spaciousness of this home justice. There was more than enough room for our family of 7 to relax, for us to cook, enjoy family meals together, & so much beautiful space outside to run around & explore. It's also VERY pet friendly which is a must for us as we never leave home without our dogs. There is an area outside that is fenced in, which was perfect to keep them safe when they went out. We used the grill to cook outside & enjoy the beauty that surrounded us. We saw so many deer around which was an added plus. Something I'm not sure is pictured, is a cute swing on a tree on the property that was one of my grandsons favorite parts. On Christmas day, we decided to drive to Willow Springs Lake that was just a short drive away(about 20 mins). To our surprise, we got there to snow everywhere for us to play in. The home is definitely in a secluded area, away from town but I was prepared for that by bringing everything we needed so we didn't have to drive about 30 mins into town. There is a dirt road about 2 miles long to get to/from the property but my Nisaan Altima had no problems as its fairly smooth. 10/10 & can't wait to return. Thank you Cindy!
The host was very responsive, went out of her way to make sure stay went well.. she was very communicative. My family really enjoyed spending Thanksgiving at this Property. We would definitely come back to this property.

About the host
Hosted by Cindy Martin
Cindy and her husband Dave are avid equestrians. They love to bring their horses and ride the trails all over the mountain. They purchased their original property, The Homestead because they fell in love with the history and found out later it was Homesteaded by Cindy's ancestors in 1895! In their spare time, they work on renovating properties. Dave is the ultimate handy man following Cindy's visions!
Why they chose this property
In 2019 we came upon an extraordinary property under the rim and knew we wanted to be the next guardians of The Homestead. We committed ourselves to providing TLC (Tender Loving Care) and BST (Blood Sweat and Tears) required to preserve its history while transforming it into something special to share. The next year we purchased the property adjacent to The Homestead and began to make it a perfect getaway for family and friends. We hope you enjoy your time at one of our two Retreat accommodations, and that you will make some wonderful memories in this spectacular spot right under the Mogollon Rim.
What makes this property unique
The Colcord Mountain Retreat and the Colcord Mountain Hideaway are adjacent to each other and located on the SW corner of the Martin Family Homestead. Both the Retreat and the Hideaway can be rented together or individually. Perfect for enjoying a getaway with family or friends to enjoy the spaces that scream "mountain retreat"! Kick back and relax in multiple indoor and outdoor spaces within the nearly 7 acre Homestead. We have 5 stalls, turnout, and a round pen for our horse visitors as well.
