About this property

Couple’s Romantic Mountain River Cabin w/ Rustic Q Bed that’s Knotty & Nice.

We invite you to enjoy THE KNOTTY CABIN…..a unique “get-away-from-it-all” experience for couple’s, singles or bonding friends/family. Enjoy the restful sites and rippling sounds of the cascading trout stream only a stone’s throw from the spacious deck, great for relaxing and BBQing. The cabin is about 30 minutes from the popular Floyd area and less than 14 miles from Meadows of Dan, Mabry Mill, Chateau Morisette Winery, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We aim to please at this Carroll County Virginia get-away. Come and enjoy the Appalachian Mountains.

The “Knotty Cabin” is situated on a knoll overlooking the river at the end of a county road cud-le-sac with huge, beautiful landscape boulders randomly nestled in the yard along with a fire pit for burning natural wood fires on chilling evenings.
This 1 bedroom/1 bath is perfect for a romantic getaway, anniversaries, or just spending days participating in outdoor activities or visiting the numerous local sites and attractions.

Part of the Knotty Cabin’s uniqueness includes its custom rustic furniture made from aspen trees harvested from the Rocky Mountains and finished by a skilled carpenter. The furniture is all natural with knots, gnarls, twists, burls, beetle runs & even elk rubbings. The comfortable rustic Queen bed is officially proclaimed “The Knotty Bed”.

This property is positioned as a “get-away” so no wi-fi, cable nor satellite tv – not even local tv channels (but lots of DVD’s for enjoying movies). Fear not, we have a cell booster hooked-up at the cabin that will allow “most” cell phone users to easily make phone calls and reach the internet for exchanging emails, checking stocks, game scores, making on-line purchases, checking the news, etc. The cell service won't handle streaming or doing lots of internet work where fast connections are needed.

From your cabin enjoy walking/hiking along the river or county roads. A perfect area to kick off your shoes and wade the stream and even try your luck at trout fishing. In the evenings, enjoy the deck or fire pit. In addition to picnicking on the deck we offer a riverside picnic table and a stairway to reach the stream and our artesian well. The table, stairway and well are located about 200 yards across the concrete bridge - you can't miss them. In adverse weather, enjoy great DVD’s, books and/or board games, curled up in the knotty bed or sitting in front of our gas log fireplace.

Coffee lovers and connoisseurs, you’re going to love the Knotty Cabin. We not only offer a Keurig with pods (bring your favorite though), but also provide a top-of-the-line OXO stainless steel coffee brewer along with fresh beans and a grinder. We even cater to those who will “never change” with Folger’s Instant coffee crystals as well! So, we have you covered! Even non coffee drinkers…we’ve got some Keurig coca and/or tea for you!

Notice we emphasized the river in our headline. After doing our due diligence in research we learned waterfront properties (rivers, lakes, ponds, oceans, etc.) are what many renters are looking for. Be assured you will see and hear the river immediately – it sits bold and beautiful in view of the deck. So, you will certainly not experience the “Where’s the Beef (water)” syndrome that you and others may have encountered with various other rental sites.

We do hope you will visit and stay with us. As for rates, there are some in the county that are cheaper and a number more expensive. But in terms of “value” or “bang for your buck” (the river view, the rustic furniture and our amenities) it doesn’t get any better than the Knotty Cabin with the Knotty Bed.

Check out the two dozen attractions shown below - all within a “30-minute drive”. (We share more info about these sites and dozens more sites, activities and attractions in our cabin guest welcome manual with all being a reasonable drive away). Note: Some of these attractions are seasonal and hours tend to vary and at times some attractions are even closed down for periods. Perfect Cabin & Location

The Knotty Cabin was just as amazing on our return trip, like a home away from home. It's still the perfect setting for total relaxation. The weather was different this trip, cold with a light dusting of snow, which was beautiful. Thank you, Gary and Gina, for such a warm welcome back.

A beautiful cabin inside and outside

My husband and I met our hosts Gary and Gina as we were leaving. We told them we would leave a review. Shame on us for being so late. Here it is. We were glad to have found this lovely cabin. It was exactly what we were looking for. A very relaxing experience by a lovely stream. The cabin is beautifully furnished. We were very grateful that the guest book included several close-by attractions, with detailed information. We would definitely recommend.

What a cabin should be: Cute, Cozy and Quaint.

My husband and I can get lost in our huge residential home and too often stay on separate floors doing different things. This little place was simply perfect. We were sort of locked at the hip! We took nice long walks by the stream, went out to get some good old-fashioned home cooked meals at a couple of country restaurants. Saw lots and lots of wildlife. My husband tried to catch a trout but said the weather was too cold. I think that was just his excuse. We watched a bunch of videos and even played a few board games. What a relaxing time. And it was cleaner than any place we've ever stayed. Thank you so much.

Cute and Clean Cabin

We stayed at the cabin while visiting friends and family in Floyd Virginia. Although we spent very little time at the cabin we did find it quite cute, cozy and comfortable in a very unique setting by the stream.

Knotty cabin stay

Loved staying here. Very clean and quiet. Cabin was located right on the river, and I could hear it from the deck. I forgot a few items but found everything I needed at the cabin including a first aid kit and dental floss. Thank you Gary and Gina for the relaxing experience and for being such great hosts!

Great cabin with cherished memories!

What a beautiful cabin and we were so glad to come across its listing. It was surreal in its coziness, quality, and the furniture was so beautiful and unique. It definitely was a home away from home. We were so appreciative of the guest book listing all the local attractions and restaurants and other details. We didn’t have a lot of time to investigate the surrounding area before our stay and the guest manual saved us a lot of potential wasted time and kept us organized in terms of helping us to select the many wonderful attractions to visit. We had a fantastic time.

Perfect little hideaway

Loved this little cabin. Clean as a whistle. Beautiful, rustic furniture. All the amenities you need. Deck overlooks a beautiful stream. What more could you ask for. Met Gina the host. What a sweetheart. Did not meet Larry or is it Gary I’m terrible with names. Will meet him next time as we will be back.

Wonderful Mountain Getaway

What a wonderful time we had on our mountain getaway at the Knotty Cabin. We loved the custom cabin decor. You will find a full kitchen set up with many extras and will exceed your expectations. Extremely clean and comfortable. After hiking around the creek banks, enjoying the views and sounds of nature you can relax on the deck, or watch one of many DVDs. There is also a fire pit area to enjoy. The detailed welcome book gives suggestions to local restaurants and adventures. Will be looking forward to visiting again.

Relaxing mountain getaway

A beautifully furnished, well supplied and decorated cabin. We really enjoyed sitting on the spacious deck while listening to the creek 30 yards away. While traveling the back roads we loved seeing the deer and the wildlife and the beautiful views that seem to be everywhere. There were other things to do within a 30 minute drive in about any direction. Our time was limited however, we cannot wait to get back here again and spend a lot more time enjoying God‘s creation. This is definitely one that we will look forward to staying in again. The owners of this property deserve a big thank you for the work they have done with this welcoming cottage. If you want a relaxing mountain getaway you will not regret giving this property a stay.

An ultra-clean, comfortable, and fun cabin with lots of useful info.

The hosts' attention to detail was impressive. Also, the cabin was as clean as you could possibly ask for. My wife and I were incredibly impressed with the Knotty Cabin's Welcome Manual. It was extremely helpful and by far the most thorough and comprehensive vacation manual we have ever seen. We found the information very useful for multiple purposes including where to take our walks, to where we wanted to eat and shop and also it helped us pick the spots we wanted to visit along the parkway and other places. We would love to come back and stay again as we only got to visit a fraction of the attractions in the area. While the fall was beautiful, I think our next stay will be the Spring or Summer when the daylight hours are longer. You'll fall in love with the rustic furniture and the Knotty Bed, in particular, was awesome. If you want a fun cabin with some helpful guidance of how to spend your time, you don't want to pass up this little gem.

The Wonderful Knotty Cabin

What a great experience!!! When we walked into your cabin my first word was “wow”, I walked a few more steps and headed into the bedroom and again said “wow”. I think I may have even said “wow” a third time. We are regulars when it comes to doing vacation rentals. We don’t do camping and don’t do hotels. Let me say your cabin was by far one of the most pleasant vacation rentals we have ever experienced, maybe even “the” most pleasant. The stream was visible only yards from your cabin, while swollen from the recent rain, it was still beautiful, and your furnishings were “awesome”. The burly rustic wood was perfect for the cabin. We also appreciated your extreme cleanliness, my gosh we could have eaten off the floors. Also, the air in the area was so very fresh, in fact fresher than any beach air we have experienced and that’s saying a lot as we love the beach too. If you are a coffee drinker, you’re definitely in luck with this place. It appears the hosts are coffee connoisseurs and not only offer various Keurig style pod flavors, but offer beans you can grind and brew as well. My boyfriend got a kick out of doing that! Can’t wait to get back to the Knotty Cabin as we’re looking to book a Spring trip already. Thanks for making our stay special. Pamela S.

The perfect mountain get-a-way

This cabin is a great hide-a-way located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It is located beside Laurel Springs Creek in a beautiful forest setting. It is a one bedroom, one bath cabin that is perfect for a great get-a-way for a couple. It was so quiet. We could only hear the rippling of the creek as it flowed in front of the cabin. And the night sky! There is no light pollution. On a clear night it seemed you could see thousands of stars. The deck is a great place to relax, whether you are catching some rays, star gazing, reading, or enjoying a meal. The interior of the cabin is awesome. It has that true cozy cabin feel with all of the knotty pine walls. The furniture is custom made and gives a rustic appearance but is comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you might need to prepare a snack or a special meal. It also has new appliances and a fireplace visible from both the kitchen and living area. My wife and I have travelled a lot and stayed many places. The owner’s attention to detail to make their client’s stay inviting and enjoyable is one of the best we have seen or experienced. The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by and well as several historical places to visit. Plenty of activities and events in the area, (some based on the season of course), but whether you choose an active day or a day of solitude and relaxation, we found the Knotty Cabin is the perfect location. The Knotty Cabin - a little piece of heaven!

My wife and I were in search of a mountain vacation where we could unwind, rest and recharge. Somewhere that was far away enough for solitude, but close enough for dining and access to area attractions. We found everything we were searching for and then some, at the Knotty Cabin! Nestled in a small valley, surrounded by mountains offering several hiking paths for nature exploration - where the only sound you hear is the occasional breath of wind rustling through the trees, or a squirrel scampering over the fallen leaves. Just wonderful! The thing that struck us about the Knotty Cabin was the cleanliness and adherence to the "knotty" theme. Most of the furniture was made of knotty pine and all other furnishings and fixtures were brand new. We also noticed the owner's attention to detail. From the array of quality kitchen appliances to the plushness of the bathroom towels - everything was perfect! Walking out to the expansive deck, containing a gas grill and several seating choices, we could hear the soothing sound of a small waterfall just a few yards away. We decided to come back in the summer so we could raise the screened windows and let the waterfall drift us off to sleep! My wife and I discovered nearby and reasonably-priced places to eat as well as Mabry Mill, Chateau Morrisette and of course the Blue Ridge Parkway. We discovered several other fun and unique shops that added to our experience. The Knotty Cabin was the perfect choice for everything we were searching for; and the time alone in such beautiful and romantic surroundings helped us rediscover each other! We will be back!

We loved the Knotty Cabin

Too often we’ve been at vacation rentals where we find ourselves placed in not so exciting types of atmospheres. Sometimes the rentals we have experienced are akin to going to your grandmother’s house. In other words, OK but just stuck on a roadside or out in a field without any major draws, such as a river or lake, along with furniture that looks second hand or picked up at a consignment shop. Your “Knotty Cabin” décor along with the Knotty Bed, knocked our socks off. That, along with all your comfortable sheets, and even your special soaps, lotion and shampoo selections topped it off for us. One other thing that made your rental stand out was all the misc. accessories you made available. Case in point, my husband forgot his charger to his phone. Not just the plug-in adaptor but also the wire. I was of no help as I didn’t even bring my cell phone as I was truly planning to get away from it all – and besides he had his. He had hoped that you had an adaptor as he was planning to go to a local store to find the wire once settled in. Well, lo and behold, not only did you have an adaptor, actually several of them, but you also had multiple wires for various makes of phones and one even fit his phone. He was really happy and pleasantly surprised by this. Although he could only sporadically connect to the internet with his phone while we were taking walks outside your cabin, he had no problem whatsoever connecting to the internet and making calls once we were back inside the cabin, thanks to your cell booster. By the way, we thoroughly enjoyed our walks and visiting the many attractions along the Parkway and Meadows of Dan. And thanks for the recommendation of the breakfast sandwiches at Poor Farmers. We had hoped to go to Floyd, but will have to do that on our next trip to the Knotty Cabin. Just wanted to add that my hubby and I really enjoyed watching DVD’s in the Knotty Bed late at night, amongst other things. I think I’ve said enough, we agreed what happens at the Knotty Cabin stays at the Knotty Cabin : ) Thanks again for a memorable visit.
