The space
"Hillcrest Manor Cottage " is a fully furnished secluded house in the countryside with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath.. There is a private 6 person Hot Tub (with lighting system) sitting on a hill overlooking a majestic forest.

A quiet country atmosphere located on the original 1890's Hillcrest Farms property - you will be surrounded by 2,000 acres of Wildlife Management Area (WMA) with public access for: hiking , wild life watching or hunting. Dubbed a Victorian Beauty Spot.

Breath taking views surrounding the area and even a bubbling creek to listen to. Watch the wild life each day with turkeys , deer, pheasants, and White Swan Geese in the Pond area which can be viewed off your front porch.

A hidden countryside get away. You will have a fire pit surrounded by a mystical stone circle, and BBQ grill with 2 porches to relax on .

Even though the cottage is in the countryside it is still near many: Bars, Restaurants, Stores & the Ohio River all which are only minutes away. We supply fire wood for one fire and there are several stores that are close by that sell it if you need more.

Listen to music on Spotify from the TV over the Bluetooth stereo system or use your phone to cast to the TV . The stereo has both indoor and outdoor speakers so you can even listen whilst soaking in the Hot Tub. And at request, we can bring up an amplifier and microphone for you to use to sing Karaoke from the TV or back porch.

And there are no quiet times here - unless the Deer complain :). Smart TV's have Netflix , Spotify, Youtube and many other apps. Many of our guests take up concerts at the near by Star Lake Pavilion Music Venue and Mountaineer Casino and Racetrack - so if you get back late you can still jam out.

Play Horse shoes, croquet or relax on your hammock while you smell the outdoor BBQ and take in the fresh air under the stars. And if its raining you can play the Ring the Bull Game in the lighted outdoor covered area.

A water park with a slide is at Tomlinson Run State Park (3 miles away) and the park also has: Fishing, hiking, miniature golf , playground equipment, disc golf, and boat rentals. There is also Raccoon State Park which has a sand beach on a lake and Beaver Creek State Park with a pioneer village. Both are 20 minutes away.

There is also a small fishing lake around a 1.2 mile walk away from the cottage on the WMA ( WV fishing license required). You can also drive near it for a short 10 minute walk if desired.

The Internet WIFI speed is 22 Mbps and there are also two Internet LAN connections at 31 Mbps - one in main bedroom and one in living room.

The main bedroom has a queen size memory foam bed, a closet , dresser and table. This bedroom can be used for a private office if needed.

The second bedroom has a trundle bed (a second bed pulls out from bottom to sleep 2). Both beds are memory foam mattresses . There is also a full dresser and small computer table. Please note - the door must be fully closed our open to use the bottom trundle bed in the second bedroom.

The couch in the living room is also available to sleep on if desired (not a sofa bed) and we can bring an air mattress to sleep a total of 6 if needed.

The kitchen comes with all cooking amenities, full fridge and freezer, microwave, coffee pot and dishwasher. There is also a washer and dryer in the bathroom that you may use.

If your on 2 wheels, there is also a lot of great motorcycle riding roads around here. Ask us for more details of where to ride.

History - This house is located far in the back behind the oldest house in the area (Hillcrest Manor - circa 1890), which was owned by a local farmer who had 4000 acres of land (we now live there). In the woods behind the guest house is remains of a even older house from the 1600's.

During the 1940's , the now Wild Life Management Area land (WMA) was used to raise prize bulls winning the international championships .

The owner of the Manor house and farm owned the amusement park which used to be in Chester, WV. He was said to gave birth to the town of Chester, WV as he purchased the land in the 1800's.

Also, located on which is now the WMA, was the famous Hillcrest Apple Orchards , where many came from afar to pick apples and taste cider up until around the 1970's.

The area described which was the old farm and orchards, will be your backyard while you stay in the Hillcrest Manor guest house. You can explore this historic land as public access anytime day or night if desired , when you stay. .
Guest access
Parking is in the lot outside of the house. It is recommended to bring long pants if you would like to explorer the Wild Life Management Area as they mow it at different times of the year and the grass may be a bit high at times on the main trails. Also, a bug spray such as DEET or similar is recommended if exploring the wild life area.

My wife and I bought this historic property several years ago based on the fact it had old world charm and access to the Wild Life Management Area. I lived in the United Kingdom for 10 years and wanted to live in something with some history to it.

We fixed up this Guest House for people to enjoy a stay in the country and share the charm of the area.

Why they chose this property

This Hillcrest Manor Guest House is located far in the back behind the oldest house in the area (circa 1890). In the woods behind the Guest House , there was even an older house that dated around the 1600's.

We have found the brick foundation from this ancient house, and old sewer systems (even an old bathtub), in the creek close by.
