About this property

Fabulous Downtown Guesthouse in Historic District, Hot tub! Perfect Location!

SPECIAL NOTE: Due to COVID 19 we require at least 72 hours between guests to assure a thorough cleaning per CDC standards. Santa Fe is mask mandatory, and we supply hand sanitizer in the casita and one disposable face mask per guest.

Romantic, exquisite and only two blocks from Santa Fe Plaza! Tucked away in an historic downtown Santa Fe neighborhood is McKenzie House. Relax and enjoy Santa Fe at its finest. Just steps away from the Plaza and major attractions including the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum (one block away!), Spanish Market, Indian Market and other world-class events, you can treat yourself in downtown Santa Fe. This very special, newly remodeled and private guesthouse is located in the heart of the historic district. We are the closest residential home north of the Plaza! Better than a hotel and more space than a B and B, you have your own fully equipped 'casita' (little house) and central location to enjoy the many sights and activities of Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico. Our comfortable and luxuriously relaxing casita is freestanding and separate from our main home; both sanctioned historically significant structures by the City of Santa Fe. Our main home was built circa 1915, the casita was the original carriage house.

McKenzie House is an intimate, 'studio style' (approx. 350 sq. ft.) accommodation with every attention to detail. Lovingly redesigned to include both old world charms and contemporary amenities, including a outdoor hot tub, flat-screen TV/DVD, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and kiva fireplace. Central a/c installed 2017! We have added a luxurious Saatva organic mattress ( same mattress as those in the Four Seasons and the Ritz Carlton!) in November 2021.

We have furnished our casita with traditional, contemporary and folk arts from the Southwest region, including Fritz Scholder, Louie Ewing and Bill Schenck. Past guests have described our casita as 'peaceful', 'relaxing' and 'extremely convenient'. Many guests have commented, 'you have thought of everything!' (See more guest comments on the link below.)

Experience the excitement and charm of Santa Fe in the comforts of your own private neighborhood. Dine at your leisure in your contemporary kitchen or the numerous world class restaurants within easy walking distance, relax by the kiva fireplace or in your private outdoor hot tub and patio, and stroll to the many sights and adventures of the Santa Fe Plaza. Museums, galleries and events are just outside your door.

In Santa Fe for business? The Eldorado Hotel is one block to the south, and most other centrally located hotels are close by. Why stay at a hotel when you can be within a short walk to your own fully equipped casita?

Take a short drive up the mountain to the Santa Fe ski area and magnificent hiking. Perfect for the many activities that happen downtown, such as the Chamber Music Festival, Spanish Market, Indian Market (also just two blocks away), Fiestas, etc. The Santa Fe Community Convention Center is one short block away. Private parking, locking front gate and a beautiful southwestern garden are yours! So come, stay and relax.

We have equipped our casita with all the amenities that will make your stay with us as pleasant as possible: a romantic kiva fireplace, wireless internet, air conditioning and an adjustable ceiling fan for a cool breeze, big fluffy towels for your hot tub and shower, and specialty soaps and shampoos to pamper you. Comfortable bathrobes and a hairdryer are furnished so you can leave yours at home. Cable and a Roku will bring the world to you on a state of the art Panasonic 32" flat panel screen with DVD for movies (many provided) and a ROKU (account needed), a Jensen stereo system with Bluetooth pairing, as well as wireless internet access (5G). The artwork in the casita is like living in your own private Santa Fe gallery!

We love Santa Fe and its rich culture, and you will be able to see this not only in the beautiful southwestern art and handicrafts with which we decorate our casita but also in your private garden and patio.

Perfect spot with an Amazing Location in Downtown!

Can't say enough good things about this property! You can't beat the location, just a few minutes walk from the center plaza in downtown Santa Fe. The design and decor of the property are perfectly southwestern style with great amenities. The owner provided a free welcome basket with snacks, fruit, milk, orange juice, etc. 10/10!

Great Location and Outdoor Area

We enjoyed our 9-night stay here in late December. Located a block north of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, this casita is a 7-minute walk to the plaza. Parking in the brick driveway is convenient. Even in winter the outdoor area was pleasant, containing seating, a hot tub, and fountain. In milder seasons it would be superb. The unit is small but nicely arranged. There is no living room seating area. The gas kiva fireplace is cozy and the kitchen is well equipped, although another saucepan would be nice. One note: McKenzie Street is blocked for construction at its east end, so you have to access from the west; also the street is very dark at night, so it is hard to see address numbers (they have a solar light over the casita’s number at the end of the driveway, but it is hard to see and stay lighted very long after sunset).

Wonderful!

The guest house was perfect. Perfect for two who love quality, privacy, and efficiency. Private little courtyard with seating and hot tub. The weather was a little cooler than expected but there is nothing better than snow flurries when you are soaking outside. Cindy was a perfect host who gave us local recommendations that proved priceless. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. 😊

Great little casita

We loved this casita and all of the little niceties that the owner included. We walked to all of our favorite restaurants and galleries and even found a couple of new places that we might not have found had we not stayed in this new location near the plaza. So convenient that we had a washer and dryer… a private outdoor patio. We have stayed in many hotels and other rentals near the plaza…. We will definitely be back for a repeat stay.

Winter Wonderland at McKenzie House

Perfect for a couple who wants to enjoy the Santa Fe area. The location is ideal for walking anywhere in downtown Santa Fe. The casita is clean and comfortable with a modern little kitchen and spacious modern bathroom with washer and dryer. We stayed 18 days over the winter holidays and were toasty and very comfortable. It is very private and quiet so sleeping was wonderful. Thank you Cynthia for providing a great place for us to stay

Gem of a casita!

This is a a beautifully appointed, exquisitely designed casita, walk was minutes from the Plaza. Everything was first-rate. Owner had a welcome basket of goodies waiting. Everything we needed was at hand. The hot tub was wonderful. Owner even shoveled our walkway from the 3" snow overnight! This will be our first choice for future visits to Santa Fe!

Great stay!

This little casita was perfect for our long-weekend getaway. It IS small - pay attention to the description if you’re not looking for cozy. That said, it is very thoughtfully laid out & appointed so that it had everything you needed without feeling cramped! The bed is comfortable, everything works, & it is very clean- all things we’ve come to appreciate after highly-varied VRBO-&Co experiences. The little extra touches like thick robes & a welcome basket that had us covered for breakfast & coffee made us feel pampered. We will be back!

Perfect All Around

The casita was perfect for our 4th of July getaway. Check in was very easy. It is intimate, charming, and very clean. The location was perfect for us. The casita is within walking distance of downtown, so we did not have to fight traffic. We loved sitting at the little patio table for morning coffee, enjoying the hummingbirds who came to visit the pretty flowers in the courtyard. We also took full advantage of the hot tub which was very clean and well maintained. Cynthia was the perfect hostess. She had a little welcome basket with snacks and treats waiting for us when we arrived. The refrigerator was stocked with sparkling water, milk, and half and half for our morning coffee. We could not have asked for a better hostess or lodging for our Santa Fe get away. We are looking forward to our next visit!

If we could give it more than 5 stars we would!

We absolutely loved our stay at this guest house. Not only was it in the perfect location for walking to everything in Santa Fe, but everything about the guesthouse was wonderful. The check in was easy, with parking available in the driveway and the home itself is in a quiet neighborhood. My favorite part was the private outdoor space/courtyard with gorgeous flowers and greenery. It was a perfect and shady place to relax (patio table, grill, hot tub) in between seeing the sites. Inside was lovely as well. Although cozy (square footage is provided in the listing), it had absolutely everything you will need. It even has a dishwasher and full oven/range! And we truly appreciated the lovely goodies basket and milk/juice in the fridge. We would absolutely stay here again!

Cute Casita

We enjoyed our time in Santa Fe. The casita is a short walk from the plaza. We drove most of the time since it was pretty cold most of our stay. Bed we comfy and plenty of closet space. Cynthia was a great host and even provided a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. My only problem was the shower. We never got a hot shower. For some reason the water coming out of the sink was much hotter. And no door on the shower meant the bathroom floor was wet most of the time. We still enjoyed our time visiting the same places we visited 20 yeara ago when we got married in Sante Fe.

About the host

Hosted by Cynthia Graves

Host profile image
I have lived in New Mexico since 1989, initially to attend graduate school at the University of New Mexico. I soon discovered Santa Fe and purchased this gorgeous downtown home in 1997. The guesthouse was remodeled in 2001-02 as a vacation rental, and I continue to add and improve to it on a yearly basis. It is truly a labor of love that I enjoy sharing with guests.

I am a museum professional and work with institutions throughout the world. I also actively play tennis, hike area trails and travel whenever it presents itself. My beautiful westie, Stella, will joyfully greet you when you arrive.

Why they chose this property

My goal when purcashing a home in Santa Fe was to be downtown and include a guesthouse. It miraculously presented itself, and I have enjoyed making it the comfortable oasis it has become.

What makes this property unique

Location, location location! PLUS privacy, security and many creature comforts.
