We help you in your vacation planning by providing the following items: all kitchen needs including dishwashing supplies, laundry detergent, laundry softener, toilet tissue, paper towels, trashbags, towels, sheets and pillows. We updated our kitchen and updated primary bath. The home offers a open floor plan and water view is available from every seat in the living area with our 9 ft glass sliding doors. Large stackable washer dryer is included. All three bedrooms are spacious, and two bedrooms face the water to enjoy the sounds of the waves at night. We offer 2 flat screen TV with Comcast and wireless high speed internet. There is also a TV in the Master bedroom.. We offer two queen beds, one full size and one single beds. We provide large weber propane grill, outdoor shower and three outdoor seating areas.

Enjoy the 360 degree view from an all-sided wrap around gated porch. Face the beautiful Delaware Bay from one side, and simply turn around to view Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge on the other. Bring your binoculars to enjoy many, many species of migrating birds and various wildlife present in the refuge. Come out at dusk for the gorgeous sunset or later at night to see all the stars in the dark sky. Also visible from the porch are the lights of Cape May, NJ and those of Lewes, DE. Take a few steps to the sandy beach and collect such treasures as seashells, seaglass, sharks teeth and beautiful stones.

Broadkill offers a quiet, relaxing setting to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Kick back and read a great book on the private beach without the crowds of the public beaches to disturb you. Dogs are permitted on the beach year around and you can have a bonfire on the beach too! Kids will enjoy the small waves of the Delaware Bay as you sit in the water nearby. Visit the Broadkill Store which offers fishing tackle, an assortment of grocery items, sandwiches and great milkshakes to order, a small gift area, and don't miss the homemade donuts on Sunday!

Just five miles away enjoy the historic ship building town of Milton. Home of Dog Fish Brewery (tours available), casual dining, grocery stores, pharmacy, antiquing and seasonal festivals. Just down the road is Lewes, the first settlement in DE, with a great deal of shops, museums and fine dining. For the kids (and kids at heart alike), try the Rehobeth Beach boardwalk for rides, games and strolling the boardwalk.

Great Pet-Friendly Stay

A great stay in one of the prettiest, private beaches. Extremely clean property, easy check in and check out, right on the water and perfect for a long weekend or a week stay. We brought our dog and the owners were more than accommodating. The home has everything you need. We look forward to our next stay!

Wonderful last-minute stay

Terrific! Comfortable and home-like. The photos don't do the house justice. Well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, very clean. The hosts are very thoughtful. Our dog loved the beach. We really enjoyed ourselves and hope to return.

Perfect Location, Beatiful Views

Our vacation was wonderful! We had beautiful weather, the location was perfect, and John and Cathy were such a help! The house is very nice and had everything you might need for cooking and relaxing. The wrap-around deck was great! It kept our dogs contained and still able to run around and exercise while we were grilling and enjoying the views. And to top it off, a beautiful double rainbow after a rain shower!

Simply serene…disconnect, relax, enjoy family and nature.

This is just what we were looking for! Wonderfully stocked, updated and clean private house just steps from an unpopulated beach, with friendly people who say hello and an abundance of nature. What a retreat for our busy NY suburban family and our fur baby. “Nothing to do”, we were told… well that was exactly what we found and how amazing it was! Family time steps from the beach. Dinner in, cooking on the grill on the beautiful deck that surrounds the entire house. Watched the sunset at night on one side, saw it rise the next morning on the other. Pure beauty and enjoyment. On the beach we enjoyed the amazing horseshoe crabs, (one of the oldest species in the world with such importance to the migratory bird population and their dependence for food. Flip them over if they need help.. we did). We loved watching the harmless and very entertaining ghost crabs scurry sideways while digging holes like dogs hiding bones in the yard. We also counted the many interesting species of birds we saw each day. Our favorite was the giant Osprey who hover, and dive to retrieve fish from the water to then fly overhead back to their nests in the nearby reserve feeding their young. And if you miss the hustle and bustle…then the drive to Rehoboth or Lewes is 25 minutes and you can dine, see a movie or play mini golf. We even took a short day trip, just over an hour drive to Assateague Island to see the wild horses on the beach. Thank you Cathy and John for sharing your special home with us.

Pro's and Con's

We selected this as a result of the 5 star reviews. When we arrived the bathrooms and kitchen surfaces were clean. The pet odor was overwhelming. Long dog hair was under the beds, along with bones, and under the dressers. One set of sheets left for us smelled like dog, so I went to wash them and the front load washer was full of long dog hair and the rubber ring was full of mold (the door of a front load washers should be kept open when not in use to prevent mold) . I cleaned it the best I could and rewashed the sheets and they still smelled like a dog. There were other sheet sets in the cupboard that were fine, so we used those. A hot tub was listed as an Amenity. This was a key consideration when we chose this unit. There was no hot tub. The walking proximity to the Delaware bay was fantastic and the Bay water view was just like being at the ocean, and we had the beach all to ourselves. We drove to the town of Lewes and had great food and enjoyed the quaint shops. There was a brand new grill on the deck, we chose not to cook, but it is nice to have. Our dog loved the wrap around deck. Don't forget to take bug spray and your own beach chairs. Loved the birds, and saw a hummingbird and even a beautiful red fox while walking on the street that seemed harmless.

Beautiful and Relaxing

The house was spotless and exactly as it appears in the pictures, with everything that you need supplied. But it is all about the beach, which is right outside your back door, beautiful, quiet and dog friendly. And if you want an evening out, Milton is 10 minutes away, charming and has dog friendly restaurants with talented entertainment. I highly recommend this house.

Wonderful location!

My husband and I have now stayed at this property 3-4 times over the last decade, both before and with kids. This trip was woth our 8, 6, 4, and 2 year olds and 2 dogs. The proximity to the beach is a huge plus to the property and the large wrap around deck is great to be able to leave the dogs outside for a bit when the sand starts to get too hot for their paws. The kitchen is well stocked which is important to us as we cook most of our own meals on vacations. The hosts have always been quick to check in and responsive if we need them, but are respectful of our space as well. We will absolutely continue to return!

Quiet and private beach vacation

My wife, daughter and I had a lovely time at John and Cathy’s rental. The beach was clean and very private. Broadkill seems to be fairly family oriented. There were multiple other families with kids for my daughter to play with at the beach which was really nice. We were looking for a quiet relaxing time at the beach and this place is perfect for that. As some of the other reviews have stated, Rehoboth is not far if you’re looking for boardwalk type activities. We did visit Rehoboth twice during our stay and enjoyed that as well. Great arcades, food, shops and other attractions to fill those needs. Fishing and crabbing at Broadkill were quite good in June and provided dinner on many nights during our two week stay. The house was comfortable and well stocked. The deck on the oceanside is a really nice feature and you can’t beat the view from the living room through the sliding glass doors. John and Cathy are across the street - very accommodating and friendly but at no time did we feel privacy was an issue. We certainly hope to return. We only wish we could’ve stayed longer!

Location, location, location!

Cute cottage right on the beach with wrap around deck. Sun all day, or shade when you want it. Comfortable, cozy building with amenities and linens. There is nothing fancy about this spot, but it has the comforts needed. Plenty of deck seating, and just a few steps to the beach. Watch the sunrise or see the moonlight from the house. If a few dust bunnies, crumbs or squishy beds don't phase you, this is great!

Home away from home - amazing place to stay

When I walked into the home, I felt like I was home. It was clean, stocked with everything you need ie. toilet paper, cleaning supplies, all cooking utensils, blankets, sheets and towels. They supply a list of restaurants and other things to do in the area. There are games, movies and books for rainy days or family night. They have 3 beach chairs and beach toys, bring your own umbrella. The house has a fenced in deck around the entire house which my dog loved, he was able to run around or just play ball on. The view to the bay was amazing and the sunrise could not get better. The beach is a short walk over the dune and it is stunning, we never saw more than 5 families on the beach. We saw dolphins, crab, horseshoe crabs and jelly fish. Yes, there are jelly fish but just stay away from them and you are fine. We did have a few days with bugs that stung us, I used my deep woods off and they stayed away. The beach is dog friendly, and I was able to bring him in the mornings and late afternoon, he loved playing with other dogs. I absolutely love the location, the homeyness of the house. I really can't say anything bad about it. It is a treasure.

A Great Time with Grandchildren

Never been to Broadkill Beach before. Didn't know what to expect. Friendly little community, quiet, secluded but close to great local stores. The best surprise was the easy beach access, the fact there were almost no other people near us, like having a private beach. Water with little waves perfect for little grandchildren. The owners were nice and friendly and long time regular visitors and property owners. So they could make knowing recommendations. Also provided a lot of very helpful items: beach toys for kids; koozies for grown up drinks; and necessities like plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, trash bags, hand soap, dish towels, propane for grill. Much more than other summer rentals we've had. Great memories for us and our grandkids. Thanks.

About the host

Hosted by Cathy & John Yost

Host profile image
We have been offering the home for rental for over 15 years with no negative feed back. We live across the street (part time) and perform needed maintenance asap and the home is always very clean. Things do happen, we are there to help remedy any issues.
One thing we do is quickly introduce ourselves to the guests after they are settled in and make sure they have what they need. Our goal is to provide a relaxing vacation away from the over crowded beaches of neighboring towns along the coast. Our oldest daughter loved the marine aspects and went on to receive her PHD as a Marine Parasentologist-her goal was to provide fishing for young people for years to come!

Why they chose this property

It is designed for a couple wanting to get away or a family retreat where the access to the water is virtually steps from the sand and water. We offer three large bedrooms with the master having TV.
We are dog friendly and provide the security of both stairs having locking gates for the wrap around decking (360 degrees) for children and animals. Our kitchen is equiped like your home and provide new appliances including a new flat top stove and 22 cubic foot refrigerator with an ice maker stove.
You can sit on the east deck facing the water to view the sunrise and the west deck to view the sunsets. Traffic is minimal due to South Bayshore Drive being a deadend street lined with vacation and full timers homes'
If you are looking for a multi-story property, this is not for you! One floor living plan offers easy access for seniors but we are on piling so there are steps to get up to the decks.

What makes this property unique

We make your packing easy! We supply the linens, towels and beach towel, needed detergents, foil and plastic wrap to name a few. Our deck wraps around the entire home so you have perfect full view of the water and enjoy the sun rises along with a great view of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, you also get to see the sun set!. Beach chairs are NOT included. We offer a large weber propane grill. There is no additional charges for what we supply.
You are right on the beach and from the deck, you can see the dolphins swim up and down the bay as they feed-wow what a sight. Dogs are permitted on the beach year around but leash laws are in effect.
Private beach, look right or left and you may see 30 people. No one can park and enter the beach unless they are home owners or guests by the home.
Alcoholic beverages are permitted along with bon fires.
