Outstanding Cabin

We've stayed at a number of cabins in SW Wisconsin and this is the best equipped we've seen (kitchen, etc). Plenty of trout fishing streams of all types nearby. Beautiful area of the state with very little traffic this time of year. Great food market (Benders) in Fennimore and wonderful apples, cider, etc nearby. Really enjoyed our stay.

Early fall in the driftless area

This is a great property. Very comfortable, set in the woods in the rolling farm country of the Wisconsin's driftless area. Four of us have an annual reunion and picked this property as it appeared secluded and roomy. It worked out wonderfully.

In the woods

Wonderful stay in the woods - lots of bugs/mosquitos especially given rain amounts. Wish some paths near home were more cleared so we could have used bug spray and enjoyed the area a bit more. Lovely home, good communication with helpful owners and great little gem in the woods.

Cute cabin

This property was well out of town and perfect for a quiet getaway. Lots of things to do and see within a half hour to 45 minute drive. It was a little tight for a family of 7, but we made it work and the beds were super comfortable. We almost caught some fish too. Very cute place and well maintained.

Nice return trip

Our second stay at the cabin. Nice to get a contrast from a prior fall stay vs late spring/early summer. Creeks were high from all the recent rain so fishing was tough, but the cabin was still great. We explored a little more of the surrounding area and enjoyed a number of fun activities.

Cozy Cabin

Right off the bat I noticed how clean the cabin was. So many helpful amenities there to use. We found everything we needed. The property managers we're responsive and helpful when I had questions. The only down fall was we couldn't actually see Castle Rock from the cabin. But we did walk the road to see it and use the campground across the road from the cabin to have a fire next to the stream one night. That was great.

Ideal, Secluded Getaway

My partner and I had the most wonderful stay at this cabin. We were looking to getaway from the hustle bustle to a secluded cabin and this fit the bill perfectly. The deck was a delight to sit out on and enjoy the songs of the birds and cicadas while ensconced in a groove of trees. The inside of the house is lovely and clean. We had a really wonderful time staying here. Just an FYI, seclusion comes at a cost though and streaming Internet tv was a bit of a challenge although we were able to watch a couple shows. They do have a wide variety of DVDs though you can use. Cell service is limited too although I have Verizon and was able to call and text. This wasn't a problem for us since our goal was time together, just a heads up.

Love the location

The property is up on a hill, fully surrounded by trees to make it perfectly secluded. We made 3 attempts at making our way through the woods to the stream but came up short each time, so instead drove the thirty seconds down to the nearest bridge where we had an amazing time catching brown trout (even lost a brookie!). Enjoyed grilling fish and other meats on the little charcoal bbq just off the deck and watching some DVDs at night. Easy drive into Fennimore for groceries and local cheeses/meats. My 9 and 12 year old did not want to leave. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet stay in the woods with access to highly productive trout streams (w sights and sounds of cows in the surrounding pastures).

Nice Getaway

We really enjoyed our stay! Great semi-secluded property, that had everything we needed to make ourselves at home. We were a little disappointed that there wasn’t a clear way down to the stream to fish, but got over it.

About the host

We are Illinois farmers and have 3 young children who love adventure. In our spare time we love to hike, fish, read, play games and relax as a family!

Why they chose this property

The Driftless Area (an unglaciated corner of Southwest WI reminiscent of Upstate New York) is known for its scenic, wooded valleys, spring fed streams and rocky hilltops. It is a unique part of the country -- very different than much of the midwest -- and for those in the know, a special place to get away without having to go too far.

What makes this property unique

Our cabin was purchased unfinished and in some disrepair in 2009. Thanks to my architect wife's keen eye, some elbow grease and a desire to create something special we remodeled our cabin into the luxurious hideaway we have today. We enjoy sharing our little slice of heaven with others who appreciate the opportunity to slow down and enjoy the finer things in life. This is not a rustic cabin. While it is certainly off the beaten path, it is also modern, well-kept and luxuriously appointed. We appreciate guests who treat our cabin as their own home and have been very pleased to find that nearly all of our guests do so.
