Property was cute, clean, and just what we needed for our short stay in Old Fort. It was also very convenient to downtown and Catawba Falls. The homemade bread, fresh farm eggs, and coffee were an added special touch that we appreciated very much.
Fantastic stay in a fantastic place. Thoughtful touches throughout including homeade banana bread, fresh eggs and coffee! Loved walking to Hillman's, Gogo's and Seeker Coffee. Perfect location for visiting Asheville and Black Mountain as well. Thank you!
Such a cozy, clean spot for a relaxing stay! The host was so kind and very easy to communicate with. They left homemade bread, farm fresh eggs, coffee and creamer. I’ve never had such a generous host. If traveling to old fort definitely give this one consideration. I believe they have another property as well and I’m guessing it’s just as perfect!
Loved staying at Mary Ida’s Place. It was super clean and in a perfect walkable location to downtown. Margaret left a yummy loaf of banana bread that I shared with my classmates at Earthhaven. Can’t say enough about what a great well-kept and perfectly sized cozy place it is! Definitely would love to stay there again 😊
Even though we live in a neighboring community the hosts welcomed us to their beautiful and efficient tiny home as we remained without power and water following Helene. Both communities were ravaged but as they had water and power they opened this home to us.
Well organized tiny home, very clean, all of the amenities we needed, easy in and out, very generous hosts with great communication. Would absolutely stay here again.

I was there during a very difficult time. The hurricane Helene had devastated the area. After helping and working during the day, it was wonderful to return to a lovely place.
Margaret and David’s place is absolutely stunning. The home is beautifully renovated and is meticulously organized. It was clean, cozy, and perfect for our little weekend trip. Their hospitality made it 10x better. If you’re looking for spot in the Old Fort / Black Mountain area, look no further!
Mary Ida's Place was very warm and welcoming, comfortable, clean, well equipped with towels, etc. Fresh eggs and banana bread were a nice touch. Thank you!

We absolutely loved it. So cute, clean, great price, and great host. The only thing that would be helpful is a grab bar for the shower.
Great location, neat, clean, great use of space; perfect get-away spot...We hope to make this space a more regular part of our weekend get aways to the Black Mountain area in the future! David and Margaret are great hosts and have made this tiny treasure a true gem!
My husband and I stayed here for a few days to explore the area. The location is perfect, and the fall colors were awesome! This is by far the best rental property I’ve ever stayed in. The hosts were extremely hospitable, and the place itself was beautiful. We will be recommending this place to friends and are planning to return again next year!
Clean, nest, quiet and lots of comforts of home touches. Owner provided a small loaf of homemade banana nut bread & fresh farm eggs for our next morning. You won’t regret staying here. Walk to a few of the restaurants and Black Mountain is less than 10 mts away. Lovely stay, we will return.
My wife and I stayed in Mary Ida's Place for a weekend getaway. We wanted to be near Asheville and Black Mountain without the busyness of actually staying there. Mary Ida's place provided us with a beautiful, clean little place to stay in Old Fort. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the hosts were excellent! They provided us with local coffee, homemade bread, and were willing to go above and beyond to make sure our stay was great! I would recommend this place to anyone desiring to stay in the area!
I have nothing to day but good things about the home and the hosts. I knew this was going to be a great stay when they sent me a message saying there was some treats and fresh eggs for me upon arrival, put a smile on my face. I needed it as this trip was going wrong for me, so much that I had to add two extra dates and they welcomely did it with ease. The place was immaculate, I mean not one spot of dirt, hair or stains, felt like home. Food options were limited but there is a grocery in quick walking distance so opted to make meals instead which was nice and saved me a lot of money. Morning coffees on the porch were excellent tool. Finally, communication was top notch, almost instant and their over all demeanor was kind as can be. Book it, you won't be disappointed!
I was amazed when I first walked in. This little house is so warm and cozy. The host had left homemade peach pecan bread, two small bags of pretzels, six fresh eggs, I have a stick of butter and a small carton of half-and-half. There were plenty of different types of tea that you could choose from and everything you need it for your
Coffee. If you’re looking for a cozy little one room home to stay at, this would be the place to stay. It’s not too far from Black Mountain and plenty of other activities are nearby. It definitely was the perfect place for our little getaway.
This Tiny Home has everything you need! It’s immaculate!
Super clean and only a short walk to 2 fantastic Brewery/Restaurants 1. Whaley Farm Brewery 2. Hillman Beer and don’t miss Go-Go’s for one of THE BEST cinnamon rolls you’ll ever have!
We went biking and hiking on Point Lookout! Also the Thermal Belt Trail is very nice and is only 30 minutes from Old Fort.

What a jewel Mary Ida’s Tiny Home is! It’s a perfect little get away spot that is relaxed, comfortable and welcoming. Both the exterior and interior of the home are great. Although it’s called a tiny home, the space is used exceptionally well, allowing all the amenities you need. What a delight it was to be welcomed with fresh baked banana nut bread, fresh eggs, butter, local ground coffee, coffee creamer, selection of teas. We had a wonderful breakfast for two mornings.
We enjoyed a dinner at Hillman which is an easy stroll from the house. The location is very convenient to getting on interstate 40 and going up to Black Mountain, Asheville or any nearby spots.
We will definitely be back!

About the host
Hosted by David and Margaret
We've lived and worked in the area for almost 30 years. We're not natives, but love the area and can't wait to share our tiny home and all the area offers with our guests!
Why they chose this property
We already have a successful Vrbo rental just outside town - Railway Rest - and wanted to add an in-town location, giving guests a cozy home with a walkable location. Our home honors Mary (Granny) Ida who lived on this property for years, raised her children here and was welcoming to so many.
What makes this property unique
Although tiny, our home has a spacious feel and is equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay, whether it's a few days or a few weeks. Walk or bike to restaurants, shops and the many trails the area has to offer.
