If you want to be away from it all, this is your place. Secluded and beautiful. Make sure you are comfortable driving on windy narrow roads to get to/from the house.
This place allowed us a quiet, private, restful retreat. We watched turkey vultures and hawks soaring directly in front of us, as we soaked in the hot tub. We wandered the land and had comfort and privacy. Just what we needed. We will definitely come again!
This is THE ONE! Every nook and cranny of this place has been curated with the most artistic eyes! Not to mention the absolutely stunning architecture. The owners were very quick to respond to any questions throughout the whole process and went out of their way to make sure I had a great stay!
I celebrated my 30th birthday here and couldn’t have dreamed of a better experience~
Some of my favorite things were: looking at the stars from the hot tub, going on a hike, the incredible rock formations peaking through the house everywhere, the rainbow I saw waking up from the GIANT bedroom windows, the IMMACULATE indoor shower/pink tub, spiral staircase, incredible lighting fixtures/dimmers, the poker cavern, so many balconies, fireplaces, just EVERYTHING was perfect.
The only bad part was having to leave!
Remote house with a lot of potential but needing some cleaning
This place had so much potential! We loved the location—the mountains above Santa Maria are beautiful! The property is huge and fairly secluded. We loved that there was a short hiking trail starting from the driveway. The house was large and the four of us (my parents, my partner and me) felt like we all had plenty of space.
But we were also a little disappointed with the general upkeep of the house. We understand that it's a country house, but it didn't feel like the cleanliness level was what we would expect. The main surfaces (countertops, dining table, etc) were clean but a lot of the secondary spaces (side tables, bed frames, light fixtures, etc) were quite dusty. There were ants in the bathroom (though the host assured me the house had been ant-free for a while). A deep clean would really help.
Additionally, the bedrooms lacked some basic necessities. The upstairs bedroom had no place to hang clothes. And none of the windows in the house—including the bedroom windows—had any curtains, blinds or coverings. We weren't that concerned about the privacy (the house was remote enough that there wasn't anyone nearby to look in), but it meant that there was no way to block out early morning light, so we ended up waking up early every morning even though we were on vacation and wanted to sleep in.
Overall, this house was a bit of a disappointment especially considering the cost. A little more thorough cleaning and care could make this a really wonderful place to stay.
