About this property

Newly renovated. Cozy home for a perfect quiet getaway 25 miles from Marquette

Wintertime rental is close to everything we have to offer in Big Bay! We offer a cozy log-style home near ski trails, snowmobiling, and mountain biking in a small quiet town. Come relax in front of the gas fireplace and kick back. A full kitchen with new appliances for those meals you wish to stay in for. Lots of space to spread out and enjoy the peace and solitude of our seasonal home.

Recently renovated (June 2024), our woodsy home is perfect for rustic camp getaways for families, couples, and small groups. It's roomy, clean, and very cozy. The log room with a stone gas-fueled fireplace and warm lighting is wonderful year-round. The kitchen is spacious and comfortable with room for 4 or more and is equipped with everything you need. The counters are local Birds Eye Maple. A spacious prepping room with a large wooden Butcher's block is right off the kitchen and a pantry. We also provide a gas grill with utensils. There are two newly done bathrooms, one with a brand-new cedar shower. There are two bedrooms, plus a queen bed in the log room. One bedroom has a single bed. The master bedroom has two queens. The mattresses and bedding are new. A bright sitting room is in the back with birdfeeders and forest views. Outdoor enthusiasts love the skiing trails nearby and all of the excellent summer activities Big Bay has to offer. It's a lovely and unique North Woods cabin experience.

Nice, but some issues

The first night we saw a mouse run across the floor. Contacted the manager, they said they would bring traps, no traps so contacted again. After they set traps, two mice were caught. Because of the mice, we were storing our food in the oven and our cooler. They said there hadn't been a mouse problem however, we saw several places around the house that had "droppings" so they couldn't have looked to hard! Also, had problems with TV, first night worked but after that, couldn't get good enough reception to watch anything. Told the manager but they were not able to help or correct the issue. We liked the home but was disappointed with the mouse issue and no TV. No discount or price adjustment for any of these issues. The area is beautiful.

Great cozy place and community

Wonderful stay, Nancy and Don were very accommodating, helpful and communicative. Cabin was cozy, warm, and so close to everything. The fabled bar The Lumberjack is right down the street and everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We will definitely stay here again!

Very cozy and charming!

This place is awesome for a winter adventure to the U.P.! Our group of four had a blast spending New Years here. The cabin is very cozy feeling on the inside and has an eclectic layout - you can really tell a lot of craftsmanship and love went into making this place. It's also in a really nice location in Big Bay - a short walk away from Lumberjack Tavern and to hiking/XC ski trails. The kitchen was very well equipped and met our cooking needs. The bathrooms and bedrooms were very clean. And lastly, Nancy was so responsive to our questions and went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable stay. Thank you so much for having us and we hope to come back soon!

Perfect cozy cabin for a long weekend

While the property is a little rustic on the outside, dont let that deter you. It was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The host even brought out a nice gas grill with utensils for our use on a last minute request. The Thunderbay Inn and the Lumberjack Tavern are cool places to eat and enjoy a drink. The Crams General store family was super helpful with fishing info on Lake Independence and they carry live bait and everything one might need. The location of this property is very convenient to snowmobile trail access and is only 30 minutes to Marquette and all the bigger city attractions. Would stay here again.

About the host

Hosted by Nancy Gaines

Host profile image
We are Frank and Ida Siminski. We reside in Hawaii during the winter months and wanted to be able to share our home with visitors to our historical area while away. We keep our summer items stored away in a closet upstairs so that we can open up the whole house to our guest. We hope you enjoy our home as we do with its quaintness and peaceful surroundings. We have Property Managers very close by to assist with any questions or help during your stay. They love to share their knowledge of the area and make sure you have a perfect stay!

Why they chose this property

We are located very close to the Big Bay Pathways and snowmobile trails. The few places that are open occasionally in the winter months are walking distance from our house. With a full kitchen you can make this a nice place to also call home for your stay.

What makes this property unique

As additions have been added to this original log home we have used our artistic abilities to make it functional and a bit quirky at the same time. You will feel like you are in the country but still close to everything you may need. As an artist, you will find some of my artwork displayed in the back section of our house.
