About this property

Locke Lake House

In the middle of the New Hampshire lakes and mountains region, this special home with views from every room provides the place to create special memories for groups of friends and families. Wake to ethereal sunrises and relax after a fun day with gorgeous sunsets over the calm waters. Cook together in the large, open kitchen or on the grill in the outside covered dining porch overlooking the lake. A waterside firepit, 3 kayaks, 2 small sailboats, a paddle boat, 2 fishing poles (you bring the hooks and lures) and plenty of floats and toys are all provided. This lake-front home is part of the Locke Lake Colony, which provides numerous beaches beyond this home's private beach, as well as tennis and basketball courts and a 6-hole golf course -- all free.

A TRANQUIL SETTING
The house is on a quiet road in the no-wake zone of the lake, so there are no fast boats and a tree-lined road is perfect for walks around the lake.  Nearby forests offer mountain hiking and biking. Winters are magical with sparkling snow, skiing, skating, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.

ROOM TO STRETCH OUT AND RELAX
This 4 bedroom house on 3 levels provides plenty of space for everyone.
· One queen bedroom on the main level with its own bathroom
· One queen bedroom and one king bedroom on the second floor, sharing a large bathroom with freestanding tub and large glass shower.
· One large bedroom on the lower level with a double bed/single bed bunk combination and 2 twin beds.

PLENTY OF GATHERING SPACES:
· Open living room right off the kitchen and dining areas
· Pine-paneled sunroom overlooking the lake
· Outdoor decks wrapping the house and at the water's edge
· Outdoor shower
· Covered porch for dining with a gas grill
· Lakeside firepit
· Mahogany dock and lake bench
· Second deck and dining space off the lake
· Front garden lunch table and chairs
· Game room/TV room with spacious sectional for everyone to gather around for movie time.

UNIQUE PROPERTY
Handmade wooden furniture and artwork from around the world fill the house.
Enjoy the live edge dining table and coffee tables, and feel the effect of time as you run your hand along a side table made of 200 year-old beams from a local barn. Wire sculpture from South Africa, vintage posters from Vietnam and Switzerland, paintings from American artists, pottery from France and Portugal, rugs from the Middle East, hanging art and baskets from Burkina Faso and The Gambia in Africa have been collected by the host who has lived and traveled across the world. Hand crocheted and vintage blankets provide cozy warmth.

FULL RENOVATION
The house has been fully renovated -- new bathrooms, kitchen, living spaces, a new gas fireplace and furnace. The kitchen has everything a cook could dream of -- Cuisinart, gas grill and electric grill, as well as coffee, tea, cooking oil, spices and condiments and interesting dishware. Grill your meals on the outside gas grill on the covered porch, where you'll want to eat out as much as possible.  Inside, the open kitchen/dining/living room has extensive views across the lake -- it feels like you're on a boat.

THREE LIVING SPACES
There are 3 communal living areas in total: the living/dining space, a special pine paneled room with 3 walls of windows facing the lake, and a lower level recreational area.   Relax in your sunroom with a cup of coffee and watch the light move across the wooded edges of the lake, and at night gather by the fireplace with a glass of wine, or snuggle into the comfy, oversized sectional in the movie theatre.

SLEEPING
All rooms have views onto the lake. One room on the main level serves either as an office with sofa or as a bedroom with a comfortable queen sofa bed. A bathroom with shower is next to this room.   Upstairs there are 2 more bedrooms, one has a queen bed and the other a king bed.  These share a spacious bathroom with large glass shower, a soaking tub and large vanity.   In the walk-out lower level, there is a large sleeping room with a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and single on the top, as well as 2 twin beds.

THE BASICS
All high quality linens and towels, full-temperature control for heating and cooling, 2 smart TVs (one on the main level and one in the walk-out lower level).   High-speed wifi and several work areas. There are window and ceiling fans. Both bathrooms have a hair dryer, and there is a high capacity washer and dryer.

FOR CHILDREN
A portable crib and high chair, many books and games for all ages, a step stool, children's towels and life preservers (adult ones, too).

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
The lawn is level and the water shallow and warm -- great for kids learning to swim.

Two single kayaks, a double kayak, a paddle boat, 2 small sailboats and a wakeboard provide plenty of opportunities to explore the coves and paddle among loons and watch the eagles soar overhead. We provide life jackets in all sizes.

A mahogany dock with a bench makes the fishing easy (we provide fishing poles, you provide the hooks and lures).

At the end of the day, clean-up is easy in the large outdoor shower.

The home has many outside areas: a beautiful, covered deck where you can watch the sun set, another deck overlooking the lake, a dock with a bench, and a wood patio and firepit right on the water's edge.

In the fall, a walk around the lake offers breathtaking colors of red, yellow and orange.

In the winter, people skate, cross country ski, snowmobile and ice fish.

LOCATION
Situated within the Locke Lake vacation colony, the house is on a leafy, quiet road that winds around the lake. Because of its privileged position in the no-wake zone, the water is calm and ethereal -- mornings and evenings are truly spectacular with beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

LOCAL AMENITIES
When you're ready for a change of pace, you don't have to go far. The Locke Lake Community has several private beaches, a tennis and pickleball court, a basketball court and a 6-hole golf course, all free for guests.

Nearby are many attractions, including bike trails, zip lines and gondola rides.  Within 15 minutes you can be hiking the famous Mount Major trail and others, or visiting Alton Bay with its marina and water-side restaurants.

Within 30 minutes, Gunstock Mountain offers hikes and skiing; you can catch a steamship crossing Lake Winnepesaukee at the pretty village of Wolfeboro, and Weirs Beach offers plenty of fun for the family.  See our guidebook for specifics: https://www.lockelakehouse.com/en/local-tips-services

SAFETY
The neighborhood is very safe.  All high-traffic areas and surfaces are disinfected in addition to standard cleaning protocol.  The deck has a protective barrier that keeps children safe.  Smoke, carbon dioxide and gas detectors and a first aid kit are provided.

A security camera is mounted on the garage wall facing the front door. It records audio/visual when motion is detected and ceases when motion ends. It is not actively monitored and reviewed solely in emergencies or for damage assessment. We value privacy and have no intention of monitoring guests.

GUEST ACCESS
Self-check-in with access code. Parking for up to 4 cars (best 3 or fewer).

Beautiful house on the water

Perfect for our littles, the house is right on the water. Great location, clean house. We told the host we had trouble with AC they came over to install another window unit. My daughter got sick and they answered the phone immediately to suggest a local urgent care. Very responsible, respectful of our privacy and a lovely house. We would stay again.

About the host

Hosted by Jamie Guth

Host profile image
Jamie is an American who has lived abroad since 2005, working in international public health. She purchased this property on Locke Lake where she could fill it with her collections from travels around the world, and come home to touch base with family and friends. It has become a gathering place that has generated so many incredible memories. Now she is making it available to you.

Her son, Brendan, is the property manager. He has lived in numerous countries, has a degree in hospitality from the prestigious Swiss university Les Roches, and has managed properties and worked in high end hotels and restaurants.

Together, they are making sure you get the service you deserve, the bed and bath a step above the ordinary, and most of all, the unique setting that will create long-lasting memories with friends and family.

Why they chose this property

Locke Lake is a perfect little jewel of a lake -- quiet, with calm waters that reflect the light and attract loons, ducks, eagles, hawks and many other types of wildlife.

The Locke Lake Colony provides four beaches (in addition to the property's private beach), tennis and pickleball courts, a basketball court, and a 5-hole golf course -- all free to guests.

Within 15 minutes, Lake Winnipesaukee offers the "big lake" experience where you can rent pontoon and power boats.

What makes this property unique

A sunroom overlooking the lake is a client favorite spot, where you can watch the sun both rise and set. You can grill and eat dinners on a fabulous covered outdoor dining area, watching the sun set over the lake. Sit by the beachside firepit with one of our cozy blankets and wait for the fireflies to come out. Inside, you'll find artwork from around the world -- wire sculpture from South Africa, vintage posters from Vietnam and Switzerland, paintings from American artists, pottery from France and Portugal, rugs from the Middle East, hanging art and baskets from Burkina Faso and The Gambia in Africa.
