About this property
10 bdr Victorian house; private tennis court, lake
32-day minimum rental. Victorian villa with 95+ acres, heart-shaped private lake and tennis court. Located in the heart of ski, golf and cycling country, "Glenmere" also benefits from proximity to Knowlton, one of the prettiest of the Eastern Townships with plenty of cafes and shops. The house includes 10 spacious bedrooms (many of them ensuite) a Great Room and a further two sitting rooms. Excellent for groups.
Most bedrooms have King-sized beds, many with ensuite facilities. Several bedrooms can accommodate a family of four, either with an extra double bed in the room or with interconnected rooms. Glenmere has a wood-panelled "Great Room" with an electric fireplace, piano and views to the lake. There is a further cosy library as well as large TV room. A small office accommodates those who need to catch up on work. The eat-in country kitchen faces "Mitten Pond."
Glenmere enjoys a private tennis court as well as a sturdy dock, where you can dive off, fish or just sit and enjoy the view. For the more intrepid, we have also carved out lovely paths around the lake. "Jane's Loop," named after the former Glenmere matriarch, is suitable for most walkers.
Snowshoeing is absolutely magical. No need to get in a car and drive anywhere -- it's right outside the door. Guests are warned, however, to prepare well before setting out and understand your limits. It is a very LARGE area indeed. Beyond our extensive private land, the forest extends for many, many miles, with steep climbs and descents.
Glenmere was the summer home of George Harold Baker, a lawyer and politician who was the only MP in Canada to be killed in action. A bronze statue of Baker stands in the lobby of the House of Commons, commemorating his actions in WWI. Glenmere is also the final resting place of Baker's horse "Morning Glory, Canada's very own "War Horse." A plaque remains in the back of the house. For those who wish to know more about Colonel Baker or Morning Glory, please get in touch and I can provide more information.

About the host
Hosted by Agnese Smith

Hi there. I'm Agnese. I live in London, UK with my husband and kids, but have been coming to the Eastern Townships for more than two decades. Our children -- and many of our friends' children -- have come every summer to Baker Pond.
We hope you will also create many happy memories.

Why they chose this property
Glenmere is a unique house full of history and charm -- and four staircases! Most bedrooms have King-sized beds, many with ensuite facilities. Several bedrooms can accommodate a family of four, either with an extra double bed in the room or with interconnected rooms. Glenmere has a wood-panelled "Great Room" with a gas fireplace, piano and views to the lake as well as a formal dining area. There is a further cosy library as well as large TV room. A small office accommodates those who need to catch up on work. The eat-in country kitchen faces "Mitten Pond." The house can easily accommodate three or four families.

Bolton Est is located near many ski hills (Bromont, Owl's Head, Sutton, Orford) -- all are about a half an hour's drive, while Jay Peak in Vermont is a 45 minute journey. Ice skating and sliding are possible in town and for apres ski relaxation, Spa Bolton is five minutes away. Spa Eastman is a 20 minute drive. In the warmer months, the ski hills host a number of summer activities including golfing, alpine hikes and exhilarating mountain biking and zip lining. Cycling routes and bike paths are well marked and well loved. Bromont has a popular water park while Lac Brome has a marina and Douglas Beach.

What makes this property unique
Glenmere is truly one of a kind: a historical home with its own beautiful lake (shared with friends), a tennis court and many acres to snow shoe or hike. One cinematographer called it "your own private paradise." Glenmere has been used for several films and music recording and much has been written about its history. You will not find another house like this.
In all seasons, there are many activities for all age groups. From just outside your front door, you can snow shoe, cycle or hike for hours. Apart from sports, the area offers a variety of activities: from wine tasting at the many beautiful vineyards, to tours of the Abbeye Saint-Benoît-du-Lac. Lavender, elderberry and even an alpaca farm welcomes visitors. Artists will enjoy the "Tour des Art"; antique hunters will find plenty to see and buy. For fans of suspense author Louise Penny there are "Three Pines" tours and a lovely bookstore in town. Knowlton is one of the prettiest towns in the Eastern Townships, with well stocked grocery stores, as well as cafes and restaurants. Bolton Spa is just a five minute drive.
The community of Bolton Est, at the bottom of the road, also hosts an increasingly popular and ever expanding farmers' market on Saturdays (during the warmer months), often with live music and delicious hot food and drinks.
