This is a place to come back to

Janice and Joe are one the best hosts we have ever stayed with. By the end of the stay one will feel that one hasn't thanked them enough. Trust me. 🙂 I was here with my wife and both of us were touched by their small yet kind gestures. They made sure that we were comfortable. Their house is so beautiful that it will be extremely hard to get over. We would love to come back as we head back with wonderful memories. Now that we are done with the review, let's do some fact check. 1. All necessary amenities and more provided. 2. Spot on when it comes privacy. 3. The location given was accurate and we had no trouble finding the place. 4. Literally in the lap of nature. 5. 10 minutes drive to the nearest town. 6. The guide book is really a guide book. It has all you need (from places to eat, places to explore & things to do). It is a must try. 7. Not just clean, but "Monica clean".

Best place to stay for visiting the Smokey’s

Fantastic, quieter neighborhood than Gatlinburg and ~30 minutes away from the prettier and less busy national park entrance. Entire community surrounding the property was exceptionally kind and welcoming. The host had great attention to detail and made the stay very comfortable and pleasant. Would go again.

Beauriful property

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful basement apartment! It is uniquely designed and decorated! The property is beautiful but a little far from town. If we go to the area again we will definitely use it again!!

Beautiful and secluded

Beautiful and secluded property, love the décor and very peaceful. The hosts very friendly and helpful. We only had on hang up. We had not received the check in instruction and direction on the day we were to check in. We reached out to the host. They were quick to respond and thought our reservation was the next day. They said the property was ready for us and apologize for the confusion and they said would send us the instructions and directions. However, since we were traveling we did not receive the instructions and directions due no cell service. We followed the signs on the road but they don't tell you were to turn exactly. We were driving a classic C10 full size truck that does not make tight turns well. The roads are very narrow or tight for a standard truck or full size SUV. Please be sure to get the directions before going into the mountains and don't follow Google's directions. Overall, we enjoyed the property for the short time.

Mountain Retreat

The property is a full basement apartment with a separate entrance from the main house, as well as separate parking. It is located at the end of a dirt/gravel driveway that is easily accessible from the paved road (about 1/4 mile). Well marked and the owner gives you directions to navigate the neighborhood. The property itself is clean, spacious, up-to-date and inviting. Well-appointed but spartan. The mattress is one of the new advanced foam mattresses, probably medium softness. Comfortable and clean - we prefer extra firm but this mattress firmness would please the great majority of people. Bathroom is nice and shower is excellent, with three different shower heads that you can choose from. Cork flooring in the bedroom and bath, LVL in the den. Keurig with a nice selection of coffee. You can hear footsteps from the house above, though it was never distracting or loud to us, and we spent most of our time in the apartment reading and talking, so it is very minimal. The grounds are delightful, with a pond, waterfall, and free range chickens and sheep in a large fenced in area. We enjoyed several short walks around the pond. The tree cover made it shady and nice and the site is tucked back into a mountain hollow, so it is pretty isolated, though there are two houses nearby, so not creepy isolated! Just comfortably so. Our hosts were kind and professional. gave us a recommendation for supper that we took them up on. Communication was timely and preparations were found just as promised. Highly recommended. A very relaxing stay.

A little slice of paradise!

Wonderful accommodations, beautiful grounds and attentive hosts. The place was immaculate and wonderfully appointed. Very comfortable bed and the shower was the best ever! Lotsa garden flowers and a quaint little mountain stream creates a very impressive waterfall that drops into a large lake with lilly pads. The chickens and sheep were friendly and fun to watch. Janice could charge twice what I paid and it would still be worth it!

Very clean, comfortable, and peaceful

This property felt more like a cabin in the mountains than an apartment. Plenty of space and nicely decorated. The waterfall and pond were a welcome greeting as we arrived, and the chickens and sheep on the hillside were great entertainment from the patio. Janice was very responsive to our questions and requests. We will definitely be back!

About the host

Hosted by Janice

Host profile image
My husband, Joe and I moved to Waynesville from Minneapolis in 2022. We love the area and take pride in creating a friendly, inviting space for our guests. The location is very secluded, however it's an active property with chickens, geese, sheep, and goats. We also have a livestock guardian dog (LGD), Casper who takes his job very seriously.

Why they chose this property

While the property is remote and offers a peaceful escape, it is a short drive with easy access to the Cataloochee valley entrance of the Smoky Mountains (elk sightings), Blue Ridge Parkway, downtown Waynesville, town of Cherokee (casino and Smoky Mountain entrance), and skiing in Maggie Valley. Asheville is a 30 minute drive.

What makes this property unique

The patio off the property offers views of the farm and you can hear the water flowing from the creek and waterfall near our pond. The patio also overlooks our 4 acre pasture where we have sheep, goats and chickens. You will hear an occasional crow from our rooster, Marble during the day and more frequently early in the morning. You will also hear our guardian dog, Casper warning predators to back off at dusk. If you are an early riser, we encourage you to peak around the corner facing east and enjoy the breathtaking sunrise views over the mountains.
