Excellent séjour

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans cette jolie ferme rénovée dans un bel espace de verdure face aux colines verdoyantes.Tres proche du coin campagne comme de la montagne des Pyrénées. A retenir pour y revenir.

Typical old French farmhouse

Character old farmhouse near small town with easy access to walking in Pyrenees. House currently needs some maintenance which would improve the overall place. Location on main road to Spanish border means traffic noise mostly during the day.

Ferme rustique

Great way to relax and unwind

We had an amazing time here. The property was private, great location for visiting the many beautiful places in the Pyrenees and Joy was a great host. The expansive garden was a great way to enjoy the weather and the traditional renovated farmhouse was just what we needed to unwind. Would highly recommend this place and will for sure be back again! charming but not calm

There were a lot of things we loved very much: The old house, the bed room, the kitchen, the fire place, the bath room, the WLAN, your taste of music, the pictures at the wall, the view to the garden and so on. BUT the D929 is a busy road and we found it too noisy in the garden and for us it was "no paradise on earth" as you were wanting to "relax in this charming farmhouse and the beautiful garden." That this was too stressful for us to relax there. In winter this will be no problem, as in the house you will not hear anything.

a great experience in France

My wife and I spent 3 weeks in this house, and it was a wonderful way to live in a very rural area of France- very rustic and comfortable, the house is huge, especially just for the 2 of us, so can accommodate more people easily- the rooms are all large and comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped, I was able to cook many great meals. In addition to the farmer's markets you can find almost daily within a half hour, there is one in the local town of Castelnau-Magnoac on Saturdays, and the local supermarket, 5 minutes away, is open every day till 7:30, except Sunday, and has great produce, butcher, fish, wine, and fresh locally baked bread daily- and in the small town of Castelnau, the one main restaurant, Le Tarragon, is excellent. The house is very comfortably heated, we stayed in January, and you can light a great fire in the huge fireplace in addition to many well placed radiators. You also have internet access and British satellite tv. And I'm sure in the summer you can have many great meals under the stars on this large beautiful property.

Wonderful relaxing holidy

We spent two weeks relaxing in the house and garden. The house was comfortable, full of character and well equipped with everything that we needed. The beds and armchairs were very comfortable. The garden was wonderful. We spent hours just wandering around the garden, listening to the birds, absorbing the view, sunbathing and enjoying our meals under the shade of the trees. It was the first time we had visited Haut-Pyrenees, and certainly want to return. A half hour drive took us into the heart of the mountains, and spectacular scenery (especially following some of the Tour de France mountain passes). A memorable house and holiday - well worth the long drive from Wales!

The Garden of Eden

I LOVE this house and property! The photos you see speak somewhat to the charm of the place, vast as the sweeping back views of fields and mountains as far as the eye can see. If you are in need of relaxation and inspiration, come ... commune and revel. If you are in need of romance, bring your lover - it doesn't get any more perfect than this! We chased each other around the back yard with the garden hose, laughing, naked and wet, in complete privacy with Mother Nature alone. We ate warm figs picked from the fig tree, feeling very much like Adam and Eve before the fall. No need for the proverbial fig leaf! As far as practical matters, which do matter as well, I had every comfort and modern convenience needed (I'm a NY professional) and I think you will too. The house was clean and fresh, the bed super comfortable, the kitchen well stocked (cooking here was a treat after so many restaurants on the road), the furniture a tasty mix of shabby chic and antique, and the decor smart and artful. Wifi, tv, a good shower with plenty of hot water, washing machine ... do you really need anything more? The house was well provisioned while maintaining the same sense of spaciousness found outside, allowing me to open up and relax in ways hard to find in an otherwise busy, complicated, modern life. I can't say enough good things about this place, how I enjoyed my time there, and look forward to returning - for an extended stay. PS Go to the outdoor market in the nearby town center on Saturday mornings to find all kinds of treats and bargains (clothes, food, plants, etc.) And coffee at Hotel Dupont!

Loved it!

My girlfriend and I didn't want to leave! We loved everything about the it: the house is simple and charming, restored just enough to maintain the charm of the old and the convenience of the new. The huge bedroom has views for miles, and a grapevine growing right outside the window. The grounds are very private, very extensive, and romantic. This was just what we hoped for, private, peaceful, comfortable, but only ten minutes from a charming village with a great Saturday market. Highly recommended.

TOTALLY STUNNING LOCATION

You don’t rent a house; this is a whole farm with approximately 6000m² of ground, two barns and stables. No direct neighbors, no people – complete privacy.I think it is an old tobacco farm about 150 years old.In this place you miss out on the odd French plastic sofa, other terrible decor and the compulsory wax table cloth in the kitchen.Instead there is a very comfortable three-seater sofa with many additional cushions and two nice armchairs in the living room. Close the shutters, the matching curtains and light a fire – with excellently dried wood available in your Car-Port being one of the barns.Back to the kitchen – there is a wooden high table with barstools in the centre, which makes cooking very communicative, since everybody can be part of it.You cook with gas and the kitchen is sufficiently equipped for a holiday home.If you want to do high-class cooking, you might have to bring a few things, which is natural. There is a separate toilet and an adjacent bathroom, with a large shower, with very good water pressure and temperature,a large washstand and a towel heater.Towels and linen provided are superb and sufficiently available. When you move to the first floor, there is a really funky staircase with steps in different sizes, partly old, partly replaced – which is part of the programme. You get to a landing with two wicker chairs, those invite you for a glass of wine with candle light and an open window before you go to sleep – in one of the two really large bedrooms with excellent bedding situations. The master bedroom has got a queensize bed (fantastic mattress and pillows) ,a chest of drawers, some hanging space and shutters on both windows, with a door that closes tightly, so you can really sleep here at any time of the day. The secondary bedroom is for the early bird, two rooftop windows but also with a perfect queensize bed, and two more sleeping facilities. And a “balcony” door, which can be opened for fresh air. Outside you have all possibilities. There are two smashing professional active speakers, they will allow you to listen to your favorite music, plugging your phone I-Pod/Pad whatever in.Even outside.Listen to Miles Davis looking up into the Milky Way.There is an electric piano, for those you know, like or need to play.High-Speed wireless Internet with connectivity everywhere outside and an internet telephone, with free calls to the US, UK and within France. After my first week in "Le Claret" I reserved the place again for 2015. Say no more!!!

Problems encountered with this house

My husband and I booked this house for a recent stay in France because it was in the location we wanted and it seemed charming from the posted pictures and accompanying commentary. However when we arrived and entered the house we were overwhelmed by the smell of mildew and mold. Both of us had an almost immediate allergic reaction, which included respiratory symptoms and tearing of the eyes, and had to exit the house. We tried a second time to be in the house, but both floors were permeated with the smell, which ruined any charms the house may have had. As the owner had spent time at the house up to the day we arrived this was clearly not a matter of the house needing airing out. In addition we found mouse droppings in the eating area although the house had been cleaned that day. We informed the housekeeper that we would not be able to stay at the house because of the health problem we encountered and she very kindly found us another place in the same area with none of the problems we experienced at this house. The owner has said that the allergic reaction we experienced was our problem and indeed it was a problem for us. However, allergic reactions to mildew/mold such as those we experienced are not uncommon, and given the potential for experiencing symptoms such as ours others considering a stay at this house may want to consider different rental options.

Idyllica Rural France

If you are looking for 'the rustic, rural, peaceful, typical French farmhouse' then look no further - here it is. Full of character and charm. We just relaxed and pottered - in the large rooms and garden, in the excellent kitchen, under the shady tree, infront of the log fire, close in the shutters to feel cosy or out on the sun terrace. Village a short drive away, which has the most amazing Saturday market. Easy road links to airports and Cities. Even went for a drive through the Pyrennes and spent the day in Spain - next time we will be do trip over to Andorra!

Amaaaazing

I stayed at this house last summer and was totally blown away at the beauty. The house is stunning, the property is massive and relaxing, and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. We also enjoyed local farmers markets and sunflowers in bloom all around. I will definitely stay here again. The host is incredibly sweet and easy to contact if you need her.
