About this property

Waterfront Cottage with Screened Porch surrounded by conservation land

On the western shore of a private peninsula, this one bedroom cottage is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax. Surrounded by conservation land, the area abounds with wildlife.

There is a hiking trail along water's edge and also kayaks or canoes for rent to explore the waterways.

The cottage has the warmth of wood floors, wood beamed ceilings and comfortable furnishings to add to your relaxation. The screened in porch makes a great place to watch the sun setting over the water.

There is a queen size bed in the bedroom. The futon in the living room converts to a bed for additional sleeping accommodations.

For those who desire to stay 'plugged in' we offer basic television channels and wifi.

The kitchen is complete with full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster and coffee pot not to mention all the pots, pans, dishes and utensils you will need. If you enjoy to BBQ there is a grill just outside the front door. For lobster lovers we have a large pot available for you to cook them fresh in your cottage.

The Midcoast area of Maine is known for its miles of white sandy beaches and Lobster wharfs where you can enjoy their famous lobster dinners on the dock as you watch the lobstermen bringing in their catch for the day. What makes the midcoast so appealing is the fact that you get to enjoy all this without the crowds. You will love the slower pace of life and the pristine beauty of this untouched area.

Great location for visiting Georgetown
My wife and I stayed here 4th of July week. It was very convenient to everything on the peninsula and Bath. The cottage is rustic, but well equipped. The screen porch was great for when we wanted to relax and enjoy the view without getting carried away by the mosquitoes. An excellent value and we would definitely return.

Great Little Cottage
We enjoyed our stay in the cottage. The layout worked really well and we loved sitting on the screened in porch. Water access was near by for kayaks and we spent each day at a different beach in the area. It was even close enough to Portland for us to spend a night out there.

Cabin in the woods
Couldn't have been more enjoyable. Quiet, comfortable cabin in the woods with views through to the river. Part of a complex of cottages on family owned and operated peninsula complete with boat launch. Family members we met were delightful and helpful. We will be back!

Blissful Tranquility
I loved everything about this cottage. Location is perfect if you want a tranquil place to recharge your batteries. Surrounded by woods with a porch overlooking the tidal river. Can't get better than this. Close enough to the quaint town of Bath and Georgetown where you can visit the beautiful Reid National Park. Would definitely return.

On the beautiful Back River
this is a perfect little cottage. it is big enough for two and to invite two more people for dinner. there is enough of everything: dishes, cutlery, towels, and if you're missing something, you can call Katie who responds quickly and helpfully. the star of this cottage is a screened in porch that increases the space of the first floor by another third. it is comfortable and gives onto the river, a tidal river that reverses course with the tides and provided me with endless fascination. while there are other cottages quite close, from the porch, you can't see them, and i rarely heard them. the cottage is wooded, so it stays pretty cool in the heat of the day and the screened-in porch catches whatever breezes may wander by. if there is a downside, it is that you are right off 127, the main drag through Georgetown and there is traffic noise all day and sometimes into the night. that said, it is hardly blastingly loud, just a noticeable rumble that might get in your way as you're listening to the birds. i appreciated the pass to Maine's Parks (and used it to visit Reid's Park at the end of Georgetown) and the history of the place (thanks Sam, for the stories!).

Gorgeous, quiet, deeply restful
Love the screen porch with the all-day view of marsh and river, oak-pine forest and boulders; also the gorgeous nearby beaches. Feels deliciously remote — we heard very few engines of any kind — yet close to groceries, restaurants, etc. Most cabins are too musty for me — I’m allergic to molds — but this one was clean and dry and smelled great thanks to lots of windows letting in the salty sea air. Host Katie was awesome, very friendly and helpful and totally un-homophobic. Wish we could stay and stay! One week was barely enough time to decompress.

Perfect Vacation
My wife and I stayed in the Sheepscott Cottage for a week in Sept. Very clean, quiet, comfortable. Beautiful view of the Back River and Marsh. We had coffee on the back porch every morning and enjoyed the view. We went kayaking on the Back River from the dock, went to Popham Beach and walked the sand bar, Reid State Park Beach, Morse Mountain Seawall Beach. Climbed Higgins Mountain, Went to the Maine Maritime Museum and took a cruise down the Kennebec River, went to Bowdoin College to the museum and art gallery. We ate out at some really good restaurants (Blue being the best). We used the cottage as a base camp to explore the area, but this would also be a great place to just hangout, cookout, and sit around a fire. We highly recommend this cabin. The owners are great, the location is great. It made for the perfect vacation.

Sheepscott Cottage
The property was perfect for us. Everything was as described in the listing. The owner and her family stopped by several times to make sure we were comfortable. We have stayed at several different properties in Maine and this one was the most enjoyable. Definitely on our list to go back.

little gem
We just loved the nature surrounding this adorable cottage. We were able to relax even with two kids 4 and 7 years old. Just sitting out on the screened in porch was a vacation (amazing view of the water!). The cottage itself is so cozy and has everything you need. The owners are very welcoming and very easy to reach.

Best Cottage we’ve ever stayed in!
This cottage is just perfect! Clean, very comfortable, and privacy galor! There’s cottages in the area they are just set up perfectly. And, you don’t have to travel far to experience great areas of Maine. We were up there during the week of July 4th and it was so quiet, even on the holiday which was very nice. Such a fantastic vacation!!

About the host

Hosted by Katie Francis

Host profile image
We, Sam and Ruth Francis, are the owners and hosts of eight rental properties in Georgetown, Maine. We have four wonderful grown sons and are proud grandparents. We worked for years to finish our timber frame dream home at the tip of the peninsula. We have past the property management part of the cottages to our son, Chris and his wife, Katie.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this unique fifty acre property with its half mile long peninsula over thirty years ago. Since then we have lived here and operated a traditional wooden boat shop. Over the years we have built six charming cottages, as well as, converted a Sailor's Loft to a rental with breathtaking, panoramic views. We also, offer the home that we first built and lived in to renters, with it's ideal location at the tip of the peninsula with deep water frontage and a private dock. We have added other touches to our property with a garden house, ten slip boat dock, a hiking trail and clearings for fishing and picnics.

What makes this property unique

The cottages are situated to allow privacy but also to maintain the quality of the open, natural spaces. Each cottage overlooks the marsh and adjacent Back River which flows off the mighty Kennebec River and nature conservancy land beyond.
