About this property

Stoneybrook House - historic property on 1.7 acres of land

Welcome to Stoney Brook House, 150 years old in 2010. This historic landmark is located just across Highway Three from the Village of Chester and, as such, is convenient to all the amenities yet cloistered and quiet. Indeed, at night, all you will hear is the sound of a brook running from Stanford Lake. You will be located on a property that has served as a private home, as a barracks for visiting servicemen and, until the mid-1990s, as a small, elegant B &B.

The Stoneybrook house is ideal for children and pets, as there are 1.7 acres of land to run around on. The house comes fully furnished, with a cozy fireplace, and even an old piano if you feel musical.

Walk to water in three minutes, to the center of town in five. Set back off the road for greater privacy.

Great location
Historical home with a taste of old world charm. A bit rough around the edges but proved to be a great location for our family vacation in the Chester area.

Loved this property and all it had to offer!
We loved our stay at Stoneybrook. The kids loved the outdoor space and the brook. We all loved the room inside, the wood fireplace. The kitchen was a little difficult to maneuver in with more than ob

Great place for a family gathering!
Wonderful old home in a nice quiet location. But close enought to everything in Chester. And I discovered it was built by my Great Uncle!

Big Historic House in a great location
We really enjoyed our stay in Chester. The House is large and great for large groups. Easily walkable to the harbour and we found it to be a great central location for our sight seeing. The house has some 1860s charm, but is a bit ruff around the edges (peeling wall paper, and screens/windows that need replacing, trees that overhang the front entry), but we were really pleased overall. Everyone in our group enjoyed our stay. One inconvenience, email response from the owner was a bit slow at times when communication prior to booking.

Wish we could have spent more time at Stoneybrook House
A bunch of friends and I stayed at Stoneybrook House while we were in Chester for a wedding. Unfortunately, we only stayed for one night but we definitely could have stayed for much longer. It would be the perfect vacation house for a family or group of friends staying for a week in the South Shore. The stream running behind the house is quite picturesque as is the whole property.

Fabulous place to stay
This house was everything we wanted for a great vacation lots of room inside and out. Very clean, comfortable, great fireplace, big comfy living room and kitchen to mention a few, a porch in front and great private side deck plus a wonderful stream in the woods with a deck and fire pit to enjoy, picnic, BBQ or just relax and read a book (there was a nice selection). Oh and the beds were really comfy. Right off a main road but with a long driveway so you were not bothered by road noise, lovely grounds to enjoy and play. Also just a mile from Chester and easy to get to all places from there whether Lunenberg or Halifax, very accessible to great restaurants, stores and fun. The owners (really nice people) gave us great info on things to do with lots of pamphlets from all over, whale watching, farmers markets, beaches, coves nearby and far, light houses and Bay of Fundy, museums and all. We really enjoyed our stay and would come back again at any time. Great place for a family or a group of friends lots of privacy but very accessible to all of the beauty of NS.

kids had fun!
Stoney brook house was perfect for our large family for 16 nights! . From 3 months old to 81. Everyone was comfortable and was easy to feel like home. The property is large and kids were able to play and run. The porch was a welcomed place for my father to read and take in the view of the property. We loved the master bedroom that has the room off it with two single beds. Perfect for our little ones to sleep in, with us few feet away. Especially being in a different house to our own, the kids felt safe which as any parent knows...so important for piece of mind. The owner is very kind and made any of our concerns his priority. Can't wait till next year's vacation!

Great, affordable rental in Chester
Stoneybrook is a comfortable, clean house with a lot of character. It's nothing fancy but it allowed myself and my friends to enjoy chester at a reasonable price. The house (and property) easily accommodates a large group of people and the owner was very nice and easy to communicate with.

I have been coming to Chester since I was 12, and try to spend as much time there as possible. I simply cannot imagine a better place to spend my summers.

Why they chose this property

Many years ago, one very pleasant summer staying on Queen St. led to an unparalleled love of Chester. I know of nowhere else like it. This property, with its large lawn and beautiful brook proved to be exactly the place I wanted for my family vacations. We have room to spare and invite friends and their families to enjoy the property.

What makes this property unique

The Stoneybrook house has history, charm, and all the comforts you would expect in a modern rental home. An addition was added 15 years ago, expanding the first floor dramatically, and adding a fireplace. This property is set apart from many Chester rentals due to the large lawn and excellent well. The front porch was recently rebuilt, and a deck by the brook was added. The inside of the house has been recently renovated, and has all the comforts you might hope for. This property is more than a rental, it is my second home.
