We had a fantastic stay at the Gothic Church. It was a cozy getaway outside of town. The shower was warm with good pressure. We voted the upstairs bed the most comfortable on our trip! Carmel was a fantastic host with so many ideas about what to see and do, and gave us great recommendations for restaurants.
We are in awe of what a beautiful renovation was done while still retaining the key structure of the church. Such a beautiful setting with a warm fire and some wine was just what these weary travelers needed.
Two nights in restored gothic church . Eclectic , fun , cool . Carmel was great host , very communicative and offered many ideas about nearby food , sites . This stay in the country was perfect after four nights in Dublin .
We enjoyed our stay at the Gothic Church. It was a unique experience and very cozy. After two weeks of hotels it was so nice having room and cooking meals. The location was great and close to many activities and restaurants. Carmel was great about communicating and everything was explained in the folder and labels throughout the house. I highly recommend this lodging!
As two couples from the USA, we wanted a unique place to stay that was convenient for day trips to the Kilkenny, Tipperary and Waterford areas. This Gothic Church took the cake! The love put into renovating this church is shown in every corner. The owners' stories of the renovation, along with their helpfulness and availability, made them one of our favorite hosts. The church is so well equipped with everything from games to kitchen spices. Note the temperature of the place is comfortable, but not adjustable. We all agreed this was a stay of a lifetime!
WOW!!!! I never thought I would stay in an old church. It was so fun. It was myself, my wife and my 4 girls ages 16 and triplets age 12. We had such a great time in this old church. The owners have done an amazing job restoring it. It had really cool Nic Nics everywhere and was comfortable to stay at. If you are looking for something completely different to do in Ireland (land of old churches) I would suggest you book this place.
Last minute booking turned into one of the best parts of our trip. Blissful secluded area. Cows wake you. Great bike trail within 15 minutes.loved the copy, gorgeously reengineered reco.
This is the coolest place we have ever stayed. It is rural but that is just what we want. The restoration of the church was so well done. I cant say enough about it. I asked my husband if i could have it but he said no. I guess we will just have to go back!
The church is just as pictured. Owners did a great job in the renovations, keeping much of the original architectural features. It was a perfect place to relax and unwind. Highly recommend.
Beautifully restored church that sits on a wonderful plot of land and cemetery. The hosts were so friendly and did every thing they could to make us feel at home. We had a wonderful time and would return anytime!
So great to see such a fabulous building restored and put to use. Was a fun getaway for us as we settled in to the time zone change prior to spending time with friends for NYE and a great base to explore surrounding sites.
Maybe not an ideal time of year due to short daylight hours but it was the time we had. Would love to come back in the summer and see more of the area.
It’s easy to see the love that was poured in to the restoration.
Enjoyed spending a few minutes meeting the hosts and getting suggestions for places to see.
It was brilliant we went to celebrate Christmas early as 3 of the adults are working over Christmas. The grand kids just loved exploring the church and we went to explore the area the church it self is fabulous it’s a very special place and would highly recommend it Carmel was on hand if anything was needed. Can’t wait to go back in the summer
I could right a book about the beautiful restoration & interior design of a Gothic Church! Our stay was magical. The design is the best of all the many places we stayed in. Stunning really. This location could easily be used in a fairytale! I just can’t say enough. The master was down stairs and the 2nd was upstairs with its own bath. I highly recommend reserving a stay here. The host was lovely.
We stayed here as part of my 50th birthday trip, and it really was the most unique and enchanting lodging we visited. The pictures don't do justice to how special this place is.
The downstairs bedroom ran a bit warm for our liking (to be fair, everywhere we stayed in Ireland and Scotland was warmer than we would like), and it was unclear how to change the temperature. Fortunately, on our second night, our fellow travelers were willing to switch rooms so I could get some non-sweaty sleep.
We would absolutely stay here again, but we would certainly make arrangements to have the temperature set cooler on a future visit since guests can't control the heat.
This property is perfect for anyone feeling adventurous. Fantastic conversion/restoration of a very old Gothic church to vacation rental. Very quirky & needs a couple of repairs. But I would stay again in a heartbeat!! Carmel was beyond helpful with our transportation issues even though she'd had a family death. Her renters are obviously very important to her.
