About this property

Come Relax at Mountain Springs Cabin

We have had a couple inquiries lately mentioning an ad on Craigslist. We don’t do business through any company other than VRBO. Please don’t book through any site other than this one.

Our large 6 acre retreat is private, yet has convenient access to I-5 and the nearby tulip fields in Mount Vernon, Washington. Three acres are dedicated to the cabin, pond and surrounding grounds, with our house on the upper three acres. A perfect getaway for small families or a romantic weekend. Most of our guests come back annually and have made staying at our cabin a family tradition for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions.

Out of respect for our neighbors, we do not offer the cabin as a venue for parties and we stick to our limit of four people. (small groups of short term visitors are fine) Although some of our guests take advantage of our convenient location to all that Skagit Valley has to offer, many come to the cabin and don't leave until their checkout time!

The grounds are well landscaped and include a turquoise half-acre pond. The pond is strictly available for our VRBO guests; we only use it on those rare days when the cabin is not booked. We have horseshoes and corn hole for an evening of fun, or sit by the fire pit. You can enjoy a refreshing swim on a warm summer day or fishing when the temperatures cool down. We lose fish in the warmer summer months, so we ask our guests NOT to FISH in June, July, and August. If catching a lot of fish is important to you, we suggest you book elsewhere. We never know how many fish are in the pond due to predators, poor fishing techniques, and hot weather. We have purchased a stand up paddle board for guests to use during the warmer months. Finish the day with a relaxing soak in the hot tub.

The home is fully furnished for all of your in home needs and is comfortable for up to four guests. The cabin has a Queen bed and double futon in the upstairs spacious master bedroom as well as a queen sized sofa bed in the living room. The set up is good for one couple or small families, but not ideal for two couples.

The only thing you will need to bring is your clothes, a swimsuit, and a steak for the BBQ. We have satellite TV, DVD and wireless internet. (Note: there is no landline phone available.) The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances, including a griddle, coffee maker, coffee beans and grinder, rice cooker, microwave, electric hot pot, slow cooker, and many spices. As far as personal items, we provide a hair dryer, shampoo, body wash and cream rinse, so you don't even need to pack those. A full sized washer and dryer are available at the cabin for your convenience as well. Firewood for the fire pit is also provided.

Please check our calendar for availability so you won't be disappointed! Our weekends book way in advance, so if you want to book for a week long stay, you need to get in your request early. Winter weekdays are often open and can be booked last minute. To get an accurate quote, click 'instant quote' to enter the dates, number of guests, and whether or not you have a pet. You can email us if you have questions or use the "instant booking" option if you're ready to secure your dates.

Fabulous location and property
Everything was wonderful. Super scenic property, close drive to lots of hikes and under 15 minutes to downtown Mount Vernon. Lots of consideration put into the property with items like a fire pit, access to cornhole, great amount of kitchen supplies, bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge with a handwritten note!

Vacation Birthday weekend
This was our first time using VRBO. What a wonder, cozy cabin get-away! Highly recommend staying here. There wasn't the roar of the city which made it so peaceful. The view of the sunrise and the pond was absolutely stunning.

Annual Anniversary Tradition
My husband and I spent our honeymoon at this darling, cozy cabin 4 yrs ago and loved the privacy, all the amenities and charm. This cabin is equipped with everything you need for a romantic getaway! We return every year for our anniversary, a tradition we plan on continuing, as every experience we've had for this idyllic location has been wonderful. John and Mary have done a wonderful job in creating a cozy sanctuary.

A beautiful private getaway cabin on pond with serene surroundings
Absolute delight the entire two weeks i was able to stay. It was also very sweetly decorated for the Holidays and the pond is stocked with some pretty impressive sized rainbow trouts. Private, beautiful, and clean and cozy with all the nice amenities one could hope for in a breathtaking environment, and the landscaping is pretty gorgeous as well. Saw deer, and dogs are even welcomed. I hope to be back regularly.

Absolutely stunning place! Came with my dog and my sister for our yearly girls' trip, and it was amazing. The pond was beautiful; we sat out on the deck for dinner just about every night and watched the sunset. The location is excellent as well, and we really enjoyed all the nearby parks and trails.

Beautiful, clean cabin
We arrived at night so it was dark, so couldn’t see the pond. I was like a kid waiting for Christmas for daylight to break to see the view and it did not disappoint! Even with the rain, it was lush and beautiful. The property is well maintained. The cabin is very clean & has everything you need. The small details are so appreciated! Foil, spices, Saran Wrap, pots & pans, coffee beans, coffee grinder… I can go on and on. These are things I bring with me to any rental because typically not available. Plenty of clean sheets, towels. Everything we needed was in this adorable cabin. Bed was very comfortable! We also appreciate them being pet friendly! Our fur babies had a great time! Thank you so much for making this beautiful property available! Cant wait to be back!

Cozy Home Away From Home
Our two Cairn Terriers, husband and I needed a cozy place to work remotely during a home remodel. We were pleasantly surprised to find this charming cottage on a small lake with many amenities to make our stay comfortable. The WiFi was perfect for our two work stations. We were able to take many breaks to enjoy the hot tub, fire pit and walks in the neighborhood. Many of our groceries came from farm stands and a beautiful Haagens only six minutes away. Our dogs had a wonderful stay as well with plenty of room to romp. Mary and John are great hosts and are on top of every detail for their guest’s needs. We highly recommend this rental to anyone.

Perfect getaway with our two little boys
This was the perfect place for a weekend getaway with two little boys. Everything was very clean and organized. The kitchen was stocked with almost anything you would need for cooking. There are many great restaurants in town in case you want to go out to eat. The owners go to great lengths to keep the pond nice and clean, we never swam in it but would feel comfortable since it seemed so clean. The highlight of our trip was watching an Osprey dive down and grab a fish out of the pond. Highly recommend, and we hope to be back soon!

Amazing!!
It’s the 3rd time we’ve come to stay here and already plan to come back next summer! Every time we come, there are new improvements— we enjoyed the paddleboard and floaties a lot this time out on the lake :) The only thing I’d change is to have the option to turn off the sprinkler that goes into the lake, as the noise can be a little intrusive.

About the host

Hosted by John or Mary Davis

Host profile image
John and Mary have retired from 30+ years of teaching in Cordova, Alaska. We ran one of the first B&B's there, the Oystercatcher Bed and Breakfast. John grew up in Skagit Valley and was excited when his niece decided to sell this property. We have many relatives within a one mile radius, so we are surrounded by good people in this very special neighborhood.

Why they chose this property

Buying this vacation rental was the perfect transition for us in our 'retirement.' We love the beauty and accessibility this property offers us and our guests. Not only do we think the property is special, VRBO selected a picture of our cabin for their international business card!

What makes this property unique

This property is very unique. You have your own private pond all to yourselves during your stay. We don't even use the pond when we have guests!

Summer or winter this area has so much to offer. The summer is filled with fun things to do including the San Juan Islands, tulip fields 20 minutes away, or Big Lake which is less than 5 minutes away. The North Cascade pass has many trails to hike and much much more. In the winter, visitors come from all over to see the eagles. There is steelhead fishing on the Skagit river or enjoy trout fishing in our private pond off the deck in the cooler months. Mt Baker ski area is just an hour and 15 minutes door to door or Stevens pass ski area is about an hour and 45 minutes.
