About this property

Treehouse in Charlottesville Downtown

The 'Treehouse' is a small, charming, rustic, 2 story house on stilts. There are air conditioning window units for the summer, and a woodstove for the winter. Must be proficient in lighting a woodstove as that is the primary source of heat in winter. Supplemental space heater, firewood and an electric blanket provided. Each floor is 12 ft x 12 ft. Downstairs there is a queen sized futon bed, a woodstove, and a small kitchenette (with refridgerator, toaster oven, and hotplate, coffee maker, pots, pans, utensils, a sink and a counter.) The upstairs is accessible by a steep staircase. It has a double-sized bed, a dresser and a desk.

There is a wrap-around partially covered porch with a couch and a great view of the creek, and the surrounding greenery. The bathroom is located in an enclosed room on the porch (toilet and sink.) The hot, private outdoor shower is adjacent on the porch. Unusual! And yes, we do have guests in the winter! There is a heater in the bathroom adjacent, so you can go from the hot shower straight into the warm bathroom, while enjoying the fresh outdoor air!

We are located 1 mile from the downtown mall in Charlottesville, and across the street from a lovely riverside trail. A creek, black walnut tree with a swing, vegetable garden and 3 free-range chickens are in the large yard. (Sweet chickens sleep under the Treehouse in their coop.)

Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is 10 minutes away, and many fabulous restaurants are in walking distance (10 minute walk.) Access to the lovely Riverside Trail is just across the street. Great place to walk dogs, bike and stroll.

On bus line (which passes once an hour), WiFi.

Ideal Getaway, Excellent Measures re:COVID

Owners were extremely welcoming and hospitable, with our stay being exactly the sort of tranquil rejuvenation we needed. We took this getaway for my partner to have a change of scenery in computer-based "work from home," and so I could quietly chip away at a music recording project. This spot couldn't have been better: with a wraparound porch, she could work outside while I sang in the second level of the (very well insulated) cabin. The outdoor shower was a dream. The kitchen had everything two foodies needed, and we loved the cozy home library feel of the main space. The continuous two-floor corner window—with plenty of privacy drapes!—was gorgeous. Temperature control was delightful. We can't wait to come back in fall/winter months to revel in the magic of the woodstove.

Fun stay but a total gimmic

I am a HomeAway/VRBO property owner in another state and I have a house in Charlottesville, which is rented, so I can't stay there while in town. I have stayed at this property twice - 2013 and 2015. First was fun, an adventure. There were issues with a leaky sink faucet and circa 1980's polyester bed linens. The second-time, *nothing* had changed. The owner is making hand-over-fist income from this tree-house and putting nothing into basic upgrades. Oh, and I learned my lesson to bring my own firewood. This is a cheap, tacky gimmick of an vacation rental. I understand a tree-house rental experience should be fun and rustic. But smaltzy bed linens and nearly non-working sink faucet reminded me of the axiom: BUYER BEWARE.

Cozy and Wonderful!

We loved our stay in the Treehouse! It was cozy, well-equipped, and just what we were looking for in a weekend place in Charlottesville. We had easy access to everything we wanted to do in town. We were there during a heat spell but the window a/c units kept us quite cool. I absolutely adored the outdoor shower - such a pleasant experience! Would definitely stay there again!

Relaxing Stay in the Treehouse

The house was peaceful and comfortable---in walking distance from old town, but also far enough to feel rural. There's a nice paved path nearby for running and walking. My favorite part of the property is the awesome porch. I have to admit, I spent most of my time on the porch reading, relaxing, and drinking wine. I slept wonderfully and am thankful for the a/c unit! The radio also was a nice touch. The outdoor shower is quaint and I really liked having the sheet dividers outside for additional privacy. I would recommend this property and also come back with friends!

Yes! Small but Fun!

This is not the Embassy Suites. As long as you aren't expecting that, and don't mind the liberating experience of showering outside, this is a great place. Don't plan on watching TV (there isn't one), but the WiFi is ample to stream some Netflix. The porch is great, and the wood stove is perfect for a cold C-Ville night. We did have one problem...black ants. Anytime we were eating, the ants were there. Also, if you have small children, the ladder to the loft might make you nervous. All said, I would definitely stay here again. Leora is a great hostess.

My son and I stayed in this charming tiny home! We loved discovering all the little details that made it so special. The location was fantastic. It was easy to get to the downtown area as well as the interstate. The owners were very pleasant and accommodating. We can't wait for our next visit!

The perfect little place for an awesome getaway!!

This week at the Threehouse was our second stay there! We are cyclists and enjoy riding in Virginia... This place is a fantastic discovery for us as it is in the perfect location near the start of many incredible rides (use the "Ride with GPS" app to find good rides). We love this little house and everything it has to offer... The place is well equipped and close to the old town of Charlottesville which has many great restaurants and bars. We love being surrounded by nature, Kika the cat and the chicken downstairs. There, you wake up everyday to the birds singing choir and it does set the tone for an incredible day! You can take a short walk/run to the Rivana River trail easily from the house or jump on you bike to go and cycle the gorgeous countryside of Charlottesville. The hosts are kind and welcoming, the house is clean and comfortable and extremely romantic... We will return again next year for sure...

OK, as advertised.

Good location for access to surrounding attractions. The treehouse was as advertised so make no assumptions. There is no tv or microwave although Wifi access was adequate. Cooking is limited to a hot plate and toaster oven and inside seating is folding chairs. Nicer weather would have allowed us to use the deck which would have helped. Go into it expecting an adventure and you will not be disappointed.

It was great! We enjoyed our stay in the tree house

The tree house is a wonderful little getaway close to everything you want in Charlottesville. Although it was really cold we loved the outdoor shower, especially after a morning run. Our dogs loved it too. We are sure that wasn't our last time in the tree house.

Fantastic trip

The treehouse was a perfect getaway for my friends and I. We managed to squeeze 5 in there and deeply enjoyed the layout of the house and opportunity to be kids again. It had everything we needed and you really can't beat breakfast on that porch, so peaceful. I recommend this place for anyone looking to getaway for a bit and just recharge.

Summer Adventure

We stayed over several days and really enjoyed ourselves. We were four adults (one being seven months pregnant) and were fairly comfortable staying there. Furniture was comfortable. The outdoor shower was an adventure! Will definitely consider staying again if we are back in Charlottesville.

Awesome getaway!

We love treehouses and have stayed in various ones around the world. The Charlottesville treehouse exceeded our expectations! I wanted to plan a surprise early Valentine's Day getaway, but wanted to keep it fairly local to where we live. I found the treehouse on VRBO and Leora was prompt with email responses. When we arrived we were stoked on the awesomeness of the treehouse. It is very welcoming, clean, funky, and fun! One of our favorite parts about the treehouse is how close it is to everything. Typically when we stay in treehouses they are way off the beaten path and require us to drive to do anything. Although we drove a few places, they were all very close! We ate at some great local restaurants (that were recommended in the treehouse book- thanks!), hung out at the treehouse and read, took walks down by the river just below the treehouse, and took a little day trip up to Monticello and hiked up the walking trail to the house (Thanks for the recommendation Leora!). Everything was 5-15 minutes from the treehouse. We also brought our Westie with us to stay in the treehouse, which is pet friendly :) She loved it, especially all the birds and squirrels. Although we stayed in the treehouse in the peak of winter, we stayed warm. The first night it was cold outside, but we made a fire in the log stove and it kept us warm all night. The treehouse is also equipped with space heaters and electric blankets. The second day we were there it was gorgeous out and we spent the day with the windows open and hanging out on the porch listening to music. The only downside is that the bathroom is outside of the main part of the treehouse enclosed on the opposite side of the deck from the front door. I love an outdoor shower any time of year, but in the middle of winter I wish the half bathroom had been inside. The treehouse was just what we both needed. We had a great stay and hope to make it back one day! Will def. recommend to friends!

Wonderful rental and owner

1) The treehouse: This is an awesome place to stay. The location is very serene, and the house is really cool. We enjoyed opening the windows and letting the breeze blow in and using the outdoor shower. The deck is also lovely... great for eating meals or relaxing with a cup of tea. We were only there for a night, and I wish we could have stayed longer. 2) Leora: What a pleasure she was to deal with. My husband and I had to alter our plans twice due to a family emergency, and Leora was completely understanding and accommodating. It was nice to work with her when everything else in life was very stressful.

Excellent stay with 2 adults, 2 kids and a black lab

A magical and wonderful place to stay! We had such an excellent time for hours without even leaving the property! Our 3 and 5 year old girls and our labrador loved playing the the very shallow and safe creek and we could easily watch them from the porch! Beautiful sitting area on the porch for reading, writing, thinking, making music! Such a lovely reminder that you need so little to enjoy so much. The owner made the whole experience.. with organic oils, teas and coffees.. fresh bars of organic soap and clean towels.. everything was so clean and well maintained. The shower is outside on the porch but is very private and even in 40 degree weather, we were able to stay warm enough with the nice hot water! House stayed warm and cozy even in sleet and rain! Our favorite part was the fresh eggs she left for us on Saturday morning from the hens who live below the house! So so so sweet!

Fun and relaxing

A great grass roots experience. Very comfortable queen size bed in the loft and cozy furnishings. It was a treat to have so many food items already in the kitchen such as tea and coffee, sweeteners, spices, etc. We were glad to meet the gracious owner and enjoy the delightful hospitality that came with experiencing the sweet two story tree house. We had perfect fall weather but we were prepared for hibernating if it had rained...books lined the shelves. Families might want to bring some board games if there during inclement weather. Would like to return to experience the surrounding area more.

Not for everyone

This is a cute treehouse but it is not for everyone. If you are okay with a little rustic and aren't afraid to take a shower where someone may or may not be able to see you then you will probably love this place. It is very quaint and the owner is very nice. However if you are not okay with camping or are a little on the modest side this might not be the place for you. There are definite pros to the place: great location, has air conditioners up and downstairs and they really cool the place off, good location, very nice owner. There are also some cons: The bathroom is on the opposite side of the porch from the front door of the house, there is no cover on the porch so if it is raining you will need to use the umbrella to get to the bathroom, the shower is more open than you would think, you need to wear shoes while taking a shower or walking to the bathroom otherwise splinters are probable. The bottom line, if you are a person that enjoys camping and things you will love this place. If you are a person that doesn't care for that kind of thing then this might not be the place for you.

YUCK

This did not meet expectations. The Bathroom is outside and had a hornets nest in it. You cannot get to the bathroom from the inside areas. You walk through the shower to get to the bathroom so a peacful outdoor shower was not to be had. It was DIRTY- paying a cleaning fee is a joke. It was not clean before we arrived. The fire alarm is missing from it's holder. We stayed one of the 2 nights and chalked this up to an experience that will not be repeated. I'd really recommend this for no one but it requires you to recommend it to someone so I put adventure seekers to be able to submit this.

Why they chose this property

Charlottesville is a wonderful place to live

What makes this property unique

Peaceful, green setting that feels like the country, but is 1 mile from downtown. Nice to watch the wildlife in the small, adjacent creek. On Wednesdays in the summer and fall the farmers market is set up 2 blocks away with fresh produce and handmade products. Wine country is around the corner, with lovely vineyards. The Blue Ridge Mountains and its scenic hiking trails surround us. Last but not least, Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home is 15 minutes away - an endlessly fascinating and beautiful place to visit..
