The River Retreat

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

On a beautiful bend of the Betsie River, you’ll find this cozy waterfront getaway, tucked into a cul-de-sac and offering 150 feet of river frontage. Spend summers fishing for salmon and trout, exploring the water via the provided kayaks and canoe, golfing, or riding ATVs at Twisted Trails Off Road Park, about six miles away. In winter, guests will love the easy access to Crystal Mountain for skiing and snowboarding, around two miles away. Find several restaurants and other amenities in tiny Thompsonville, about four miles away, or head for Frankfort on Lake Michigan for more options, around 19 miles northwest.

At the home itself, spend quiet mornings with coffee on the beautiful deck overlooking the river. When you get hungry, step inside to the full, well-equipped kitchen to whip up some breakfast. The open living area features several cozy spots to gather with loved ones and two large tables for enjoying home-cooked meals together.

After a day of exploring, come home to relax while the washer/dryer makes quick work of any laundry. A large lower-level family room, plus a hangout spot in the garage, complete with a dartboard, means there’s space for everyone to have fun. More entertainment options include three streaming-capable TVs, free WiFi, cable, and a DVD player for movie nights. If you want to unplug entirely, opt for a family cookout on the gas grill, dinner alfresco, and a marshmallow-roasting session around the firepit in the yard. Sleep will come easy in any of four well-appointed bedrooms. Whether you're here to unwind or explore, you’ve found the perfect hideaway at The River Retreat!

Nice place

The place was clean and had enough beds to sleep the whole family. Some beds were not comfortable although newer mattress, just hard. Throw pillows could use some mending and washing. The door to enter sticks so I could not get in even though I used the code and unlocked the door. They know about this as they stated in the texts. My brother banged on the top right of the door to get in but it won't open from the inside when the weather is damp so we used the garage door. There are canoes and kayaks, but only two paddles were not broken and there are no life jackets of any kind on site. I didn't see that stated in the description. The last few steps of the stairs getting to the river are missing so we decided to go to a marina and rent kayaks with a good paddle and life jackets. Overall, a nice place, just a few issues. Our family had fun. I would also suggest leaving a few more rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags for large groups. We purchased more to use.

Everything We Needed

I had a group of young men who love to play board games. This house had the space, the tables, and the amenities for us to enjoy our up north camping experiences during the day and play games into the wee hours of the night. Remote enough to feel like we were up north, yet close enough to anything we needed.

Not a river retreat

This house is advertised as a river retreat but getting to the river is a safety hazard. The deck outside the back door is missing a board and a kids foot could easily get caught in it. The stairs down to the river are being held up by a cable strap tied to a tree. If you make it past both of those then it's a 3 stair drop off into the river with no handle. The electrical in the house is not great. We plugged a pancake griddle in and used the microwave and blew a fuse and were unable to use plugs in the kitchen or the microwave for over 24 hours. The main level bath tub doesn't hold water so not unable as a tub. The mattress felt like they have been there for 20 years and very used. I sent all these complaints via text and email but had to continue to follow up about the blown fuse every couple of hours to get any resolution. Would not recommend this house especially if you have children due to safety concerns.

Rustic with great bedding

Positives great bedding, lots of space. Subpar cleanliness of the grill, artwork not in good taste, and windows withou screens, garage smelled moldy and dock going into the river was not safe or user friendly to canoes.
