Worked out nice for our stay.

This was our first visit to Central Lake. The town looks quaint and inviting. We didn’t have time to enjoy. The room worked nice for our party on Torch Lake. It was quiet. The room is cozy but the bed was a little small for a tall couple. We would come back.

Memory lane trip

Even though there was a community room to watch TV, I will say that it would be really nice to be able to watch TV in your own room after a long days drive. The restaurant/bar was not open when I was there so my sister and I were the only ones there all night. No employees. This would have not been strange if it had not been a business/hotel type place that was sizable. The room was clean and as described so it was fine. There were many steps to climb so if you have physical issues with that, take it into consideration.

It was nice enough for a b&b. Strange that there was no employees on site. The window in our room had no shades or curtains.

Needs a deep clean

Pretty run down and dirty. The water takes about 10 minutes to get warm. AC unit in the window was very noisy and musty smelling. Blinds were broken and the windowsills hadn't been cleaned in a long, long time. The property manager was very responsive and did offer to send someone when we couldn't get the air working.

The tiny room had a good shower stall but hot water too 10 min ti arrive after opening the hot side of the faucet. Three of six bulbs over the sink were out and not replaced upon request. The window A/C blows directly over the pillows, something I cannot tolerate having learned by experiences elsewhere that such sets me up for a case of pneumonia. I could not turn it off (off switch seemed faulty) so I finally unplugged the unit While it was only 57 outside, there seemed to be.another source of heat so I was too warm. I finally opened a window. 'the bed was not comfortable for me so I hardly slept at all. After struggling 3 hours, I finally got up and retired to the communal lounge. Yes there was a TV that worked, but the coaches were "post Salvation Army grade and I almost needed an asset to get out of either of them. This was were 'breakfast' was served, that is self served: packet of flavored oatmeal, some "yogurt" a non-protein bar, and coffee that reminded me of my fathers description, "bettery acid. We are 81 and were pleased that a young person helped carry our bags to the second floor. But the stairway was extremely poorly lit (a single fixture with 3 25 watt bulbs suspended 12 feet above the landing. I was so unhappy with the facility that I decided not to eat there, a restaurant that is supposed to be very good. But one look at the very hight prices listed led me do decide go to Classic Pizza a block away.

priced just right

The Blue Pelican is a little outdated but the price was right. Loved that there was a great restaurant with wonderful food and live entertainment right down stairs. My room was clean and comfortable. The common lounge could use a little updating and some new furniture. Hotel is a little out of the way but I would definitely stay here again.

Quaint

My parents, my daughter and I, my brother and my uncle had rooms so the common room was wonderful for us to hang after dinner since the weather wasn’t great! We really enjoyed the get-together. We had the funeral luncheon there and it was top notch! Absolutely delicious and the sweetest people working there!

About the host

Merrie Corbett’s Grandfather Adams fell in love with Northern Michigan. He began frequent northern treks from the family’s home in Lansing.

Two generations later, Chris and Merrie purchased a home here, and while strolling the streets of Central Lake fell in love with a grand building standing in the center of town which is now Adams Madams on the corner of Old State Road and Main Street.

Chris and Merrie missed the seafood cuisine of the East Coast and decided to bring a taste of it to Central Lake. The Blue Pelican was the former Chatter Box at the corner of West Old State Road and East Torch Lake Drive just down the street from Old Brownwood Restaurant.

This restaurant brought the beach and coastal seafood to Northern Michigan. Sadly, in July of 2008, The Blue Pelican burned down. This would not, however, deter Chris from being a restaurateur.

By October 2008, he and Merrie were the proud owners of the historic (and haunted) Murphy’s Lamplight Inn in downtown Central Lake. After a winter of major renovations, the Blue Pelican Inn opened in May of 2009, serving the same great food in a truly elegant atmosphere.

The seven rooms upstairs opened shortly after and have had several guests remark that they weren’t always alone! The Inn is considered one of the five most haunted places in Michigan!

Why they chose this property

100 year old historic building
Upon purchasing the property, Corbett investigated some of the histories of the hauntings reported by former employees, owners, guests, and the community. The property has been visited by paranormals, ghostbusters, and investigation groups who are looking for paranormal happenings over the years.

Before the hotel was purchased by the Corbett’s, the three main stories that existed were of Mrs. Gill, who managed the property in the 20’s and 30’s and came back to stay in the 1950’s, where she passed away in one of the rooms.

The second ghost is a story of a young woman who is eloping from the second-floor window, where she tripped on her gown and fell to her death.

The third is a little girl who with her school books is looking out the attic dormer, as if she was waiting inside a school. It was later learned that the property was used as a temporary school when the original Central Lake School burned down.

Another instance is of a young lady (the daughter of a paranormal) working in the hotel who was escorting a person out the front door, she opened the door for the person, but no one else could see this person. Several other instances of sightings and sounds abnormal to normal building noise have been brought to Corbett’s attention.

What makes this property unique

Close to many Northern MI attrations/ Resturant located below the rooms
