In 2006, Edward and Shirley Ciociola purchased the Calhoun House and began an 18-month adventure to restore the home back to its original grandeur.
With the help of their daughter Kelly (who currently works as an architectural conservator), they began by removing carpets and linoleum five layers thick, and thousands of pounds of dated building materials that did not fit the character of the historic home. As original moldings and doors were removed, they were saved and returned to the home at the completion of the project.
The result is a magnificent restoration where guests feel like they have taken a step back in time while still enjoying all the modern amenities of brand new plumbing and electric with modern appliances, JACUZZI® whirlpool tubs, Corian counter tops and central air & heat in every suite.
The finished home is a sight to behold. A stay at the Calhoun House Inn & Suites brings comfort, interest and enjoyment to every guest who wants to feel the true excitement of visiting in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is cozy. comfortable and conveniently located to downtown shops, restaurants, breweries and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad depot.

Why they chose this property
Shirley and I love to travel! We first started visiting the Great Smoky Mountains in the 1970s, when it had a 2-lane roads through the small towns and brick side streets accented with small shops, filled with unique, hand-made gifts and crafts made by local artisans. Since then, we spent over 40 years traveling the country, living mostly in our RV (we’ve had 8), visiting large and small towns in all 50 states while pursuing my career as a commercial artist, painting free-hand custom artwork for motorcycle dealerships and their customers. Today BRYSON CITY still maintains that small town feel. We now own and operate a small Inn in the Great Smoky Mountains with my Scarecrow Art Studio on the same property, where our customers can now come visit this beautiful country, stay in a beautiful, historic Inn and get some beautiful artwork painted on their vehicle, while they are here. BRYSON CITY still holds that unique character we saw in our first visit, many years ago. We are proud to own this historic property in such a wonderful place in the Great Smoky Mountains. Over the 17 years we have owned the Calhoun House, it has seen many improvements. While we still occasionally have people travel to receive some of our unique custom artwork, the Inn is now our primary business. We hope you will come visit soon! We know you will love it here.
