Remote and relaxing

We had a great week at this property. The creek in front of the house was a terrific place for my kiddo to play. The house itself had everything we needed.

Lovely Locatio

Location was lovely as described. Enjoyed listening to the creek during morning coffee. Definitely plan to arrive during daylight hrs and do not pay attention to GPS as it will route you to gravel roads. About 1/2 to town and about 1 hr to Bryson City. Enjoyed our stay.

Private and relaxing

We spent 6 days at the property and had a great time, despite the rain for half of the time. The fire pit by the creek is great, and the owners have stocked plenty of wood. On the rainy days it was great to light up the cast iron fireplace inside. There is a second cabin immediately adjacent which was not being used while we were there. Note there was no cell phone coverage for us there but the internet was good.

Heartbreaking

This owner cancelled our trip with this message “Cancel find another rental”. Rude for one. Then could not get our money back to find something else for our thanksgiving. Called and emailed several times. Finally went through my bank to get our money back. Ruined our thanksgiving plans.

Great place to relax!

Just what I needed in my hectic life..... peace and quiet!! We arrived a bit late in evening and was pretty tired but just happy enough that I didn't roll off a cliff. Lol. It was a scarey ride in the dark! I apologize to the owners for parking on grass the first night.... we were a little intimidated by our surroundings in the dark and made bad judgment call. The inside was very homely and comfortable. There was a slight smell of mildew which is consistent of a home that's been uninhabited for some time.... but not overbearing. The surrounding area is simply beautiful!! The locals were very friendly. I would definitely revisit this property.

A Breath of Fresh Air - Family Style

This place is truly a hidden gem if you are looking for something restful, beautiful, and big enough for your family. The cabin is unique with its quirky features, but it makes for a memorable time. My family was able to get some much needed rest, enjoy hiking in the forests, and share lots of laughs around the kitchen table. Our only complaints were that the dishes in the cabinets were pretty dirty upon arrival, the upstairs was extremely dusty, and the roof leaked a little when it rained. Also, we lost power for 1/2 a day in the middle of a very light rain fall. These things did not ruin our experience, but just stand as any normal potential improvements. The creek outside provides the most peaceful sound to fall asleep to, read a book by, or wade in playfully. The place has plenty of space to sit, inside and out, if you are cozied up in the winter. The surrounding woods are beautiful and provide plenty of space to adventure. It is also perfectly placed near Nantahala and Great Smoky Mountain National Park if you want to explore all the trails. It is not that hard to find and our GPS brought us right to the driveway. I would surely come back and recommend it to others that are looking for a quiet getaway outside of the city. Thanks Kay!

Bikers Beware

Traveling to the end of the paved road onto a gravel road, then onto a long very narrow driveway was scary. Not recommended for bikers. Arriving at the home I was impressed with the rushing creek, beautiful big porches with rocking chairs and a swing. There were lots of humming birds. A million dollar view. I thought this is perfect but that ended as soon as I opened the front door. There was a strong musky odor and very cluttered décor. The sofa & chairs were dingy and sheets torn. A designers nightmare. The only bathroom with a shower is adjunct to the kitchen & living area. Not very convenient. I only found 1 bedroom and a loft bedroom, on VRBO, 3 bedrooms and a loft were listed. Maybe I missed the other 2 or there was another entrance. The TV in the siting area is about 24" at the most 30". ATT cell service is not available but there is a land line. I have stayed in many VRBO properties but this was the only one that was disappointing. There are a lot of possibilities for the house, just needs refreshing. I feel I paid a price for a nice resort area but instead received a motel 8.

DANGER, A LOT OF LITTLE MICE INSIDE THE HOUSE. GAD IS FAIR.IF YOU DO BAD,THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE

My experience outside the house was wonderful, except, for the cameras which in the contract does not mention that they are always recording, but apart from that the outside of the house was something so beautiful that it cannot be described in words.About the house, the interior part is very sad to see; the deterioration was so bad, it is a pity that they are not taking care of the house and the house is in no condition to be rented. uninhabitable- Since you enter theirs an unpleasant smell of old house and humidity impacting you.- They charge you for the cleaning of which there is none, everything was disgustingly dirty including the refrigerator where we put the food, the shelf where the pots are placed were all full of mouse poop and not only in the kitchen also in the bathrooms(1 bathroom and 2 half bathrooms,in the living room, dining room, under the beds, behind the shelves. The poop of the other guests (the rat was everywhere, the carpet of the upstairs room is stained everywhere, that room does not have any kind of privacy. (No curtains (that was the part of the house that had more plague (EVERY DAY WE HAD TO CLEAN THE POOP OF THE LITTLE MICE(THE SUPPOSED SON OF MRS. KAY TALKED TO MY HUSBAND AND WE TOLD HIM ALL THE PROBLEMS WE HAD; HE PUT POISON FOR RATS- The reservation was made for 5 people (2 couples and my son who is18 years old) and only had 2 full beds’, my son slept in the recliner the seven nights in my room.(don't give you access the other room-The house had mold everywhere as it has a nylon on top of the roof covering the leaks.-The WIFI has almost no coverage and in the area that is the house you do not have any type of signal.THEY HAVE A PHONE LINE IN THE HOUSE WHICH WE HAD TO SHARE WITH 2 MORE PROPERTIES BUT WHICH ON ONE OCCASION WE COINED WITH OTHER TENANTS WHO SAID MANY BAD WORDS WHEN THEY FOUND OUT THAT WE WERE USING THE PHONE-The only bath that the house had was almost always clogged Water would not drain-We arrived on Friday and Sunday my husband talked to Mrs.Kay's son because my son is asthmatic, and the smell and mold was causing him a crisis and he told us to put a dehumidifier that they had in the closet which was full of water. And some had spilled on the carpet.AT THIS TIME MRS.KAY IS CHARGING ME BECAUSE SHE SAYS THAT WE VOMITED ON THE CARPET AND THAT LEFT A VERY BAD SMELL TO THE HOUSE I HAVE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING I SAID TO CONFIRM THAT EVERYTHING IS TRUE.MOLD,MICE POOP,COBWEB,WATER LEAKS,CLOGGED DRAIN. A gem in the mountains of western North Carolina !

I recently stayed at this property with my family of six which included four smal children. This cabin/property is special . You can tell there has been a lot of love in this cabin in how it has been taken care of over the years. We were able to catch some trout in the creek as well. We had absolutely no issues. Excellent communication with the owner who is very accommodating in all aspects. We are definitely plan to come stay here again in the future. Five stars

The ONLY BAD vacation rental experience in 0ver 45 GREAT ones! See RESPONSE for VIOLATIONS!

August 15, 2021 Kay This letter is in response to our recent visit to your property and your last response. Do not worry we will never request another visit as this is the ONLY BAD experience with a listing and host in over 45-50 vacation rentals and business rentals I have had. I have contacted VRBO and they have a case number and they also confirmed you have claimed our damage deposit. We left the place cleaner that it was when we arrived and with NO damages. The only claim you have is for 2 additional people which I was willing to pay as I mentioned. Now for what I feel you OWE me for services listed in listing that YOU did not make available to us. First the listing stated loft with 2 twin bed, no ac which YOU DID NOT LEAVE A KEY AND YOU DID NOT GIVE ACCESS TO. Second the listing had internet service which YOU DID NOT PROVIDE FROM WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON. THIS CAUSED 3 OF US TO HAVE TO GO TO TOWN TO RECEIVE AND REPLY TO EMAILS AS I PROVIDE SOFTWARE SUPPORT, ONE SON WORKS WITH CLIENTS ON CAD PLANS AND ANOTHER HAS AN ETSY SITE TO TAKE ORDERS. You should not have discontinued your existing internet until you had replaced it. WHAT IS THE VALUE FOR WHAT YOU DID NOT PROVIDE THAT WE PAID FOR? With that being said there are two ways this issue can go? When I made a claim with VRBO representative he asked if I wanted to escalate the case? I said I would like to send a personal response to you prior to escalation as I did not want to create any more issues or frustrations on both our parts and that you had just lost your husband and he thought that was great of me before escalating it. So here’s my recommendation, you refund me my deposit and we both walk away from escalating my FULL complaint and I will amend my case to only cover the misrepresentations with VRBO on your listing so others may not have issues in the future. YOU chose not to respond and VRBO confirmed. One you need to change the bed listing to 6 NOT 7 for that is all there is no mater which way you count. Second you have to remove the listing of FOURTH BEDROOM which must be above the garage and is NOT part of this listing. In the photos you need to add a disclaimer on the photos that show the garage and list as not part of this listing. Lastly YOU NEED TO REMOVE 2 CAMERAS THAT ARE ON THE FRONT HOUSE PORCH AND ON THE GARAGE LOFT PORCH YOU CAN KEEP THE ONE FACING DRIVEWAY COMING INTO THE PROPERTY. THESE CAMERAS ARE IN DIRECT VIOLATION OF VRBO RULES. You spied and listened to us!

cozy comfortable house next to mountain stream

This house/cabin was homey, cozy, comfortable, and well appointed. Perfect home base for our family of 5 and our dog as we explored the Nantahala area. Fire circle next to the stream in the front yard. Streams, waterfalls, wildflowers, and gorgeous views everywhere you look! The owners were great to work with - very responsive and caring.

Absolute Filthy home

I’m sure the owner will say that I drove in the grass. Yes I did, as we arrived in the dark with no apple lighting to turn around unless you want to drive into the creek. So I went slow and turned around in the yard to be safe. This house is basically a 1950s decorated smelly shack. I had to check out in day 2 because of black mold all over the shower. And the cob webs everywhere. DO NOT RENT THIS PLACE. These people shouldn’t be allowed to be in the rental business period. They are putting peoples health in jeopardy. STAY AWAY.

A Breath of Fresh Air indeed- book now, you wont regret it!

I feel so fortunate to have found this home and for having gotten to experience its tranquility! I picked the Robbinsville area for this mountain trip due to hiking in the area and went house looking from there. Kay’s place couldn’t have been more perfect for my daughter, dog and I. I look for private, good views, pet friendly and affordable- Kay’s place was all that and more! Everyday was an adventure- we drove the Cherohala Skyway, hiked around Indian Boundary Lake, Falls Branch Trail, Huckleberry Knob and Joyce Kilmer-all off the skyway- drove around Lake Santeetlah up to see Fontana Dam, hiked Yellow creek falls trail and explored Cheoah Point Beach. We’d return to the cabin before dark to play in the stream while getting a camp fire going to eat supper around. The sounds of the water were amazing and so many things for a child and dog to explore. Swimming here would be wonderful! The home is set quite literally into a mountain side with beautiful landscaping and a bridge over the water. You could absolutely make a trip just out of the home and surrounding very rural area, I drove to see streams as beautiful as the one right out this home’s front door! Thanks again Kay for opening your home up to us folks- I can see from the coziness and decor how much it’s meant to you over the years- it was a true pleasure for us!

Great and rustic

Beautiful property with older home. Snowbird Mountain area is amazing and this is an easy distance to Cherohala Skyway, Joyce Kilmer and the local lakes. As shared with the property owner, improved cleaning would be of help. Kay told me, "Housekeepers are not a dime a dozen" and she was "amazed" that I had checked under the bed before we left for any forgotten items. The numerous old socks, hairbands, water bottle and other unknown items was a bit off putting. Dishwasher was out of order (per handwritten note on counter. Advised afterwards that it had just happened. Not a big deal as soap and scrubber provided which was appreciated), coffee maker on the fritz (bought a temp at Dollar store), and we did a much needed cleaning of the AC filters when we arrived. The newer side porch is very pleasant and we spent most of our time there while at the house. Appreciated Kay letting us bring our dogs and confirming that we had kept the house nice. Overall enjoyed and got the rest we needed.

Great mountain cabin

The property is amazing with breath taking views and waterfront bliss! Everything was wonderful from the rushing creek, the cozy cabin, and beautiful mountain air. We only used the upstairs bedroom as it was just the two of us (me and the hubby). The upstairs sitting area was the best part of relaxing on a super plush huge recliner sectional couch after a long day exploring the area. Many hiking trails, fishing, and amazing mountain adventures close by. Cooked all of our meals with no issues. We even found a gas grill outside that was quite nice because the listing I believe said charcoal and we forgot to buy some. Didn't have much luck fishing but we sure had a lot of frontage to try and enjoy ourselves. Everything you could possibly want or need for a mountain getaway is here. You feel secluded and have plenty of privacy even though your not far from things you would like to do. The owner is excellent in communicating and recommending things. So blessed to experience this home for our anniversary mountain getaway! Wifi worked most of the time and I know that is a big deal for most but we did not need it often. The decor is such a testimony to the owners that care so much for their home!!! Our GPS on our vehicle and Waze took us directly to the house with no issues. Although we carried the printed paperwork just in case! All the channels that we enjoy were available on the tv's! Our little yorkie dog loved exploring the grounds and mostly enjoyed the cute private bridge over the water to look around. Can't wait to come back to Robbinsonville again!

Peaceful Setting

My husband enjoyed staying at this property. We arrived very late. One piece of advice: follow Ms. Kay's directions or you will taking gravel roads around the mountain tops. Waze and Google will work intermittently up there. Our bed was comfy and we enjoyed the stream out front. The housd is well stocked, too. It was a pleasure to work with this owner. I love the law enforcement discount because my husband works in law enforcement. The only negative is that the house smells a little musty. Other than that, we would book this property again.

Picturesque property and family cabin

What an amazing piece of property this cabin is located in - worth it for that alone. Nice, family cabin with some history to it. A beautiful upstairs, downstairs is nice but very dark. Beds were clean and comfy, the kitchen was well stocked and had all we needed to cook the whole time. I can’t give 5 stars because the cleanliness was not up to grade. Carpets and mats were dirty and the kitchen mat was wet dog smelly. Bathrooms ok. We had to fish out some toys from our kids under beds or the couch - not pretty. But overall that can be improved and the cabin was well worth it. Kay was outstanding in communication, even with some complications. Thanks for letting us stay!

About the host

Hosted by Geoff

Host profile image
We live away from this property but find ourselves needing to 'get away' from the hectic big city. We searched for years to find this property. Our criteria were as follows: Property must be in the mountains, have rushing water in view, on acreage, beautiful home, or one to build, within distance of our daily lives, fireflies, spring flowers, rhododendrons and mountain laurel, nice yard with easy access. etc.and snow if we are lucky to be here. What a fun time! Well this was most certainly a huge order!. No wonder it took us years to find! We love it in those wonderful God made mountains and look forward to each minute we can spend there. Thank you God for helping us find this place. So come and see if you enjoy it as much as our family. Oh yes, our grands love it too.

Why they chose this property

Location, location, location! Water rushing in your front yard and not across or down the road from property. Waterfall and trout river. Nature at it's best! Quiet serene area, very private and on acreage. Hear the water rush by and fall to sleep. Oh yes, easy access for 4 season convenience. All the decks, porches, yard and swing on one of them to sit, eat and listen to the water rush by. Fire pit by the creek. Oh my! Fire pit and get the marshmellows and make smores for the kids. Mom and Dad too!.

What makes this property unique

Fish in your front yard, play in the water, enjoy the abundant wildflowers, smell the sweet air, enjoy star gazing from the yard or from the master suite deck. Just off Cherohala Skyway and another place to view the heavens. Ride the tail of the Dragon. Bring your bike, motor bikes or ATV's. How about that hike or hike to waterfalls? All can be done here plus more.

Again, we want to reiterate, we chose this place for the location, water in front, easy access and on acreage. All front windows look at the water amenities. Sit by the water and read your novel, or write the play, as we have guest do before, and or swing on the porch, eat out on one of the porches by candlelight. Oh my! Relax, after all, we need that. But if you must, we have WIFI for those that cannot break the habit of checking in on your devices. Note sec cam on front porch watching driveway. Off when guests arrive and on as they must be leaving.
