About this property
GULF COAST Oceanfront Retreat & Refuge with Private Beach
Your private retreat & refuge awaits you in the natural, unspoiled north Florida region located at Dekle Beach, a PRIVATE fishing village in the heart of the Florida Panhandle. This cozy haven is spacious, well-furnished & highly functional, with every want/need anticipated and provided. Each day you'll wake to the glory and splendor of the Gulf of Mexico right before your eyes and its inhabitants, feathered, gilled and very few else. The Gulf view is on full display on cold days through the large sliding glass doors. On milder days, the sliding glass door opens to a 12' x 12' screened porch with a patio set where morning coffee and breakfast can be savored in the company of the shore birds when the tide is receding or coming in. At high tide, you can sit and watch the mullet jumping, feel the Gulf breeze blowing and listen to the sounds of the birds in conversation, the wind rustling in the palm trees and the water splashing against the rock seawall, only a couple or so feet below you. When you're ready to venture outside, there are hammocks, Adirondack chairs with ottomans, an umbrellaed picnic table, etc. for you to relax in to absorb some vitamin D and the sights and sounds of Dekle Beach. What else is there to do? What do people do when they come to Dekle Beach? Here's what they do:
*Some use our key to the PRIVATE BOAT RAMP, put their boat in the water and go fishing!
*Some use our kayaks and life jackets and explore the Dekle Beach coastline.
*Some drive our golf cart all around Dekle Beach, watching out for children & dogs. (Just a "heads up" the beach dogs love to ride in the golf carts, anyone's golf cart, and will literally stand in the path in hopes of hitchhiking a ride. Please don't run over them. Just say no and slowly drive off.)
*Some set their GPS on Steinhatchee (22 miles), driving through the various beach communities on the way. Upon arriving at Steinhatchee, some go shopping at one of the gift shops and clothing stores, some eat at one of the several good restaurants, like Roy's and some rent a fully equipped boat and go fishing out from the Steinhatchee River. There are MANY great captains with boats you can charter for half or full days.
*Some drive over to Walter B's (4 miles) for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
*Some drive a little further (7 miles) to the Nowhere Grille for lunch or dinner.
*Some drive into Perry to Walmart or Walgreens, or to shop at one of the cute gift shops or clothing stores. There are several good eateries to be recommended, too: Deal's Famous Oyster House (23 miles), Mama's Italian Restaurant (20 miles), The Backdoor Bistro (22miles) and the infamous Johnson's Bakery & Restaurant (22 miles), Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant (22 miles)...to name a few.
***We have done and continue to do ALL OF THE ABOVE on a regular basis, as we love everything about Taylor County and most of the people in it.
*Some really venture out and take day trips down to Cedar Key (92 miles) or Crystal River (110 miles) or other places of interest in Florida.

About the host
Hosted by Pat Guin

Billy and I (Pat) grew up spending our summers in the Florida Panhandle, me (Pat) at Dekle (born and raised in Taylor County) and Billy, further west, at Grayton Beach. Several years ago, this lot came available for purchase and we bought it. Knowing the destruction that can be wrought by hurricanes and other storms, we chose to have a house on wheels that we can evacuate until the danger passes. We've actually evacuated a few times with no problems whatsoever! In the spring of 2022, we welcomed our custom built Castaway Cottage to the Dekle Beach community.
Why they chose this property
Dekle Beach has remained virtually unspoiled and unexploited for 70+ years. Why? The forward thinking of property owners many years ago who incorporated and made Dekle Beach a PRIVATE beach with no public water access. Every lot and structure is privately owned and we enjoy a beautiful community of caring, loving friendships and deep respect and support for one another. We live only 2.5 hours away so we are able to come as often as we like to refresh, regroup, restore, reset and abide peacefully and quietly in the Presence of God, our Savior, Jesus.
What makes this property unique
When we were preparing the lot for our first little cabin on wheels and repairing the dilapidated seawall, we came up with the crazy idea to turn the entire lot into a sandy beach. We hung hammocks in the palm trees, put out beach chairs and a few sand toys, then invited all our Dekle friends and neighbors to come and enjoy it whenever they liked. It was soon dubbed "Pretty Beach" and a couple of dear souls created the sign you see now and surprised us with it on our return. Last year we fortified the seawall after a hurricane and decided to create a giant sandbox to better contain the sand and cover the rest of the lot with the rock for lower maintenance. We've since added steps down into the gulf for easier access for kayaking, swimming, etc. We welcome all well-behaved non-smoking friends and neighbors to our beach.
