Perched in a sunbelt on the tip of a very private absolute oceanfront sea cliff lies this honeymooner's delight in the heart of the lush Puna district's tropical rainforest on the Big Island of Hawaii. There are 2 legal bedrooms and accommodations for up to 4 guests.
Please be advised that due to the fact that this cliff house is at an approximate height of 75 feet above sea level, it is not deemed appropriate for young children.
This 2 story, 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom beach house has the distinction of being the only oceanfront licensed short term vacation rental in the Kehena Beach coastal community that has a pool(heated) as well as no dwellings on the adjacent parcels on either side of the property which is secured with 6 foot lava rock walls and an artistic metal entry gate which was custom built by a commissioned French sculptor.
It was previously selected from thousands of entries in the Hawaiian Islands to be a sweepstakes grand prize for a prestigious short term vacation rental website.
The oversized covered ground level lanai(deck) has unobstructed views of the beach and a gas grill and table for up to 4 guests.
The large open air upper level lanai(deck) is ideal for sunbathing and stargazing. Watch the moon rise and shimmer over the Pacific Ocean.
The private in ground heated oceanfront pool is bordered by a coconut forest and is jetted and has capacity to generate a swim in place adjustable current with a remote control manufactured by renowned Endless Pools. There is an outdoor hot water shower.
The entire floor of the house is covered with custom Italian travertine tile. All of the direct oceanfront windows have just been replaced so you can savor the direct sunrise view over the Pacific Ocean. Binoculars are provided, but not necessary, to view the Spinner Dolphins which frequent the cove. You can often watch the well seasoned local beachgoers swimming with them. Seasonal whale watching is available generally from November to April. You can watch the reef fish feed on your papaya from the living room. Listen and watch for the white Hawaiian Pueo(owl) at night. The Hawaiian Io(hawk) makes periodic circular flights over the coastline. A gentle chorus of coqui frogs can be heard nightly in the background of the never ending sounds of the surf.
The master bedroom features a California King bed, smart TV, remote control operated blinds and has direct views of the sunrise over the ocean and of Kehena Beach. The washer/dryer is adjacent to the bedroom.
The smaller guest bedroom has a full size bed, smart TV, remote control operated blinds and views of the ocean and the pool.
The bathroom is wrapped floor to ceiling in Italian travertine tile and has a glassblock shower. The toilet has a built in washlet.
The great room occupies the entire second floor and gives one the feeling of being prow front on a yacht. The coastline views are bidirectional. The view incorporates the adjacent parcel in the foreground which consists of a pineapple patch and a series of stone moai statues which are imported replicas of those found on Easter Island. The moai altar serves to intensify the mystique of the exotic surroundings.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. The dining room has a bar height table with seating for 4.
The living room has 2 large sofas and an oversized chair with an ottoman which overlooks the beach. There is special effects nighttime lighting in the entire great room area in the theme of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) created by a Los Angeles based artist.
You can walk to the beach in a few minutes from the residence. There is a steep rocky trail to the beach which is well worth the effort. The unique black sand was formed in the 1955 lava flow when the 2,000 degree Fahrenheit lava exploded in the ocean! Note that the beach is frequented by naturists and there is a drum circle that is reminiscent of the sixties every Sunday afternoon.
You are only an hour's drive from Hawaii Island's most visited attraction, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which has one of the world's most active volcanoes.
We hope that you, like hundreds of guests before you, take with you many cherished memories and that your experience embodies a true sense of aloha.
The property is very secure. The entire oceanfront block is a fortress of 6 foot lava rock walls and elaborate artistic metal gates with matching light fixtures. The developer of this oceanfront block maintains video surveillance of the entire street and the grounds of the residence 24 hours a day.
